Low Impact/Intense Workouts

Cathlete
Hi All,
I'm interested in buying some low-impact but INTENSE workouts for those days when I want to give my knees and back a break, but still want a good, sweaty workout!
I will have a go at just about anything - step/kickboxing/aerobics. I like choreography that moves along fairly quickly (ie, not keen on repeating moves over and over again!).
I would be grateful for any suggestions you can make.
Thanks!
Kaz.

I'd highly recommend the Powerstrike Millenium tapes. They're high intensity, low impact drill-oriented kickbox videos. You can find them at powerstrike.com

Stacy,
Are these videos up to par with Cathes tapes? I have bought some new videos while I am waiting for Cathe to put out some new ones. But of course they only seem like a waste of time cause I barely sweat and sometimes the foot work is to hard to figure out and for some reason I can always figure out Cathes moves.
Is this the same lady that comes only t.v? Or she use to?

I just got Powerstrike 1, and it is a good workout. I like you, love Cathe, but sometimes I just need a change, I think we all get bored with the same routines. The tape is about an hour long and I was definitely sweating at the end. There were a few boxing moves that I didn't get, but I will in time. The tape is $22, and they only do 2 day fedex which is another $8.00, so your total comes out to $30.52. It's mostly boxing with a moderate amount of kicks. They work all one side first, and I could really feel the side that was being worked getting tired, then they switch to the other side.

I also just purchased Leslie Sansone's 3 mile walk, for those days when I am so tired that I can't get into a total high energy workout. I was really suprised that I was actually sweating at the end, I used #5lb weights instead of the 2lb she uses and I did some jogging in place instead of walking, the tape is available at Target and only costs $8.00. It works for me, when I don't have any energy, but am feeling guilty and need to do something. It's funny, but I never use that low of a weight when I do strength work, but I could actually feel where my muscles had been worked on the sides of my arms.

I think we all get caught up in the fact that we have to stay in that high-end zone to maintain, and I am finding out that this is not true, I recently cut one of my cardio days out and was worried that I would put on weight, nah.. nothing changed.

Hi Kaz,

I haven't actually done one of these myself YET, but I'm planning on purchasing a couple of Charlene Prickett's low impact videos.
I got a high impact high-low last month, and the catalog that came with the video gave descriptions of other videos, several of which were listed as "low impact but high intensity."
She is a "chatty" little thing, but I'm panting louder than she talks so I barely hear her! :)
You can read through some of the descriptions at her website:

Thanks for the suggestions!
Stacy - I'm really interested in trying the Powerstrike tapes as I've read so much positive stuff about them and I love kickboxing workouts! They get me sweating and huffing like nothing else!
Donna - I'm not sure about Charlene - I traded for her Return to Slender tape not long ago and quickly traded it on as it was so repetitive (in my opinion). Perhaps if you decide to take the plunge with some of her other workouts, you could give me a review of whatever you buy? Also, I wanted to ask you about "Fit to Kick". I noticed that this is one of the kickboxing tapes you have (I think I saw it on the Volume 4 rotations that Kathy did for us). I've tried to find info on this one, but have been unsuccessful. Would you be kind enough to give me some more info, ie who it's by, breakdown of workout, etc. Sorry to ask so much - please only if you have the time!
Many thanks,
Kaz.

Hi Kaz,

"Fit To Kick" is an "okay" workout, but I had it before both Powerstrikes, so after Powerstrike, it pales in comparison.

Here's the breakdown as best as I can remember:
It's by Sherry Jacqulyn (talk about your fit bodies!)
It's pretty fast paced, both punches and kicks. Her cueing is okay, but not as precise as what you'd be use to with Cathe, so you might miss a jab or kick due to saying, "what? what did she say? oh!"
She puts together combinations of jabs, hooks, upper cuts in the first segment. Moves into adding some kicks with the punches for the second segment.
There's a third segment that does standing ab work, along with the punches/kicking drills, and then it moves into some light weighted upper body conditioning drills (jabs, crosses, hooks and upper cuts w/3lb dumbbells).
Then she moves into a series of push ups (tough!), and then onto some floor ab/core work. Then cool down. It is just over an hour, many times I'll do just the kickboxing portion if I'm adding it to weight work the same morning, so then it would be about 45 min kickboxing.
It is a good workout, you will sweat, but it's not as organized as CardioKicks or Powerstrike, but still a keeper in my book! :)
