Low Impact Challenge???

I've tried this workout several times and mid way through Cathe loses me with all the fancy footwork and walking back and forth across the step. Which of the premixes on this DVD leaves out most of that fancy footwork? I know you Cathletes will know the answer. :). Thanks in advance.

My answer & advice: practice, practice, practice. You'll get it eventually, if you really want to ;).

I remember doing this workout when the LIS just came out. I was fairly new to complex step at the time. I just had it in my head that I was going to "get it" no matter what, and I did :D.

I have read on this forum that you can do the workout in "slow-mode" using that function on your DVD player. I have never done this, but it might work for ya!

Good luck!

Hello,

Could not agree more with natasha :)
It is worth investing the time to learn. Once you have gotten the moves it turns into a pleasant low impact step workout full of fun. I always reach for it when I need a break from a high impact cycle. Be patient you will get it. You will go pass the frustration feeling of the learning process ;-)

All the best,

Going in slow motion as Natasha suggested should help you learn the most difficult steps. Try not to over think things. Many of the steps (e.g., walking lengthwise across the step during the fourth segment) are more simple than they appear. I don't want to minimize the difficulty of learning the foot work. It took me more than a dozen tries, and I still make mistakes but it doesn't matter as long as you keep moving. The 10-minute blast segment at the end has very easy choreography. I sometimes add it onto other workouts.

I forgot that I had this cheat sheet, which was posted here by another Cathlete some time ago (I'm sorry, I forget who so I am unable to give credit to the source):

Step Express #1 = 42 mins (1-4 combos + "all combo")
Step Express #2 = 37 mins (combos 1-4 only)
Step Express #3 = 40 mins (alternating between "all combo" & blast - repeated twice)
Step Express #4 = 32 mins (bonus step)
Step Express #5 = 41 mins (blast & bonus)

Both Step Express #4 and #5 omit the fancy footwork in combos 1-4. The blast and bonus segments are easy to follow but good cardio segments. I hope this helps.

Whenever I do this one I do step express #5. I simply do not have the coordination and feel like I lose valuable workout time in the form of lost intensity when I fumble over the steps in the regular program. I also have sensitive knees and need to be careful with twisting them through fancy choreography. Premix 5 is straight forward and you get a good workout.

I would like to add a "tip" which helped me. Breaking down the move into counting . this helped me get the last combo where you walk over the original step on three count steps, rotate then walk back...
Hope this help----

Thanks ladies, you've been a tremendous help. I will keep practicing to learn the footwork and try counting as suggested. I thought I had previously read about the premixes in the past and apparently that post did exist. Thanks for searching that out. I will give those two premixes a try when i find time to squeeze it into my Xtrain rotation :) You all are a great resource. I've been on the forums for over a year, mostly just lurking..hmm that sounds bad, but I've learned many things from reading everybody's posts. I appreciate all your help and advice you've given me this year!! :)
Good luck to you all in the New Year!
Amy

I'm so glad to be using this DVD now. I tried the dancy parts and just didn't want to put the time in to master the learning curve. Maybe I'll try one segment each time I do this premix until I get the dancy parts too.
