Low end work and heart rate?

Hi Cathe or anyone who knows the answer,
Why does low end work get your heart rate up? Is it your body tring to speed up your circulation to flush the lactic acid out or is it something else?
Thanks

I believe it's because the low end of a squat or lunge recruits the glutes AND quads and thighs (it's the bottom of the squat or lunge that targets the glutes most) and the more muscle recruitment AND the larger the muscles being recruited (glutes are huge muscles), the more circulatory blood is needed to deliver oxygen to these working muscles.

You know how they always say it takes 37 muscles to frown and 4 to smile or something like that? Well, do the math...

Thanks A-Jock.
Mogambo- Then my heart rate is even higher because I am frowning on those low ends and using 33 more muscles (albeit small muscles) than I thought I was using.

Exactly, I think we forget to factor in the calorie expenditures of frowning, grimacing, shrieking and groaning.

Mogambo is absolutely right! It also burns more because in addition, you are screaming at Cathe!!:) x(
