Low Carbers and Friends - 3rd quarter 2015

Glad to finally "see" you Melinda. I'm glad your new job is working out. Too bad about the secretary. As a boss I know that an employee who has been there for a while sometimes has a hard time adjusting to the new person they are working for. All I can think of is that she is trying to help and just doesn't know how. Either that or she hates her job.

Good for you and doing just parts of the workout. I have such a bad time not doing the whole STS workout. I guess I would be considered OCD on that, right Lita. Lol

I am pretty OCD with the workouts, then I got a step counter and that added to the insanity. I quit wearing that and I am also taking an 8 week class on mindfulness, they add yoga to it. It is gentle yoga but they say that to get your mind off something, it is good to incorporate movement, even small movements. I think this is an interesting approach. To take the class you have to commit to do 20 min a day of their recorded sessions. It's pretty easy to do, just making myself settle down is the big thing. But I do want this to work, my main impact I want is for more restful, longer sleep. So tired of being tired.

Melinda - That's why I quit wearing a HRM - I was killing myself with the thing ! Settling down is definitely the hard part :(... My fingers are crossed for you - I can't even imagine a long, restful sleep but I'm thrilled for anyone who can get one :D! Hoping it all works, you rest well, and suddenly aren't tired anymore !

Hi fit babes! Good to see everyone here! I think I'm a little better than I used to be OCD-wise on workouts. I don't wear anything that counts stuff but if I miss too many workouts, it really affects my mood! I haven't done any rotations lately, just winging it and going with whatever I feel like doing. Seems to work pretty well for me.

I'm glad you like your job Melinda and the variety you get, that's great! :D:D Getting variety in our jobs can be challenging for a lot of us. I too am sorry about the secretary, I hope you don't have to interact with her too much. My mom always said to kill them with kindness so there is no reason for anyone to be rude and if they are, they have the issue and are unhappy people. We have a outright mean girl in my division and she has alienated so many people that hardly anyone talks to her. I only do if I have to.

About that sleep thing: well, my OB/GYN said that it gets harder for everyone as we mature. I have a pretty hard time getting to sleep every night and wake up at least once. I try to sleep in one weekend day of the week, but Americans as a rule, are sleep-deprived. I heard that years ago. I take melatonin regularly and I just read that taking deep breaths when you can't sleep can help. I'm tired of being tired too!

I made it through the stadium stair climb with a better time this year! I was more mentally prepared, weighed a little less and it wasn't blazing hot. :D Starbucks was even there giving away free coffee and goodies. I enjoyed the coffee. :)

PFFFT is how I'm feeling about work right now--and it may be a little while before it gets better. I'm frustrated, angry and stressed but I've shared that with so many of my co-workers that I don't feel alone in it.:p They are supportive, it's just a matter of getting through to the new boss! Rhea, I wanna retire like you wanna! I can't of course, but I haven't met one retired state worker who isn't happy they no longer have to deal with crap!

Have a healthy rest of your week!

Tracy - Way to go on that climb  :D!!!! I think you were just jazzed to get the coffee at the end ;). JK, of course :p!!!!!

Gosh Lita, I'm so glad that you remember these things. :) Hope you have a great Anniversary Tracy!

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Ms. Lita!!!! I hope you are treated with nothing but kindness today!!

And yeas, I do believe that I was jazzed to get some coffee at the end of the stair climb! :):D

And thank you for remembering my anniversary! 10 years this year! And I knew you all at the time so we've been a great group for a while now! :D:cool::) We took a little time off and went to the beach. Wish we took a little more time off!

I remember dates in my head which I don't think is always a good thing!:p

Thank you kindly, Tracy :D! Glad you and DH got to do something fun for your anniversary !!! Man, I can't believe it's been 10 years !!!

OOOH, HAPPPPPPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR LITA! HAPPPY BIRTHDAY TOOOO YOUUU... That's about the best I'll do at "singing" it ! LOL Hope you have a wonderful day even though you had to work. hehe :)

OK, the last time I posted was a month ago. WOW! Time to catch up.

First of all Happy Birthday Lita! Hope you had a nice day and will have many more to come. You are such a sweet heart!

Happy Anniversary Tracy! I remember you getting married Tracy, didn't know it was 10 years ago. How long have we all known each other?! OMG, I can't believe it. I actually started on the FIRM boards with Anna Benson and met someone over there who told me about Cathe. The pyramid series was her latest series and that's what I started with.

Tracy, about the state worker comment, my dad retired from the state at the age of 59. He had also been in the navy reserves and retired from there, so bought some of his time to retire early. I don't think he regretted it for one moment.

The meditation is going ok. Some of the weeks I have more issues with. I am 1/2 way done. I did not like the sleep meditation or the mindful eating one. The other calming ones I do like and feel they trickle into the sleep and eating part, so that's what I'm going to do. I am sleeping better, I believe.

As for the secretary, I have been praying for her, like Jesus says to pray for our enemies. OK, that may sound a little harsh. At first I had a conversation with God saying I knew I should do this, but didn't want to. Then I did it anyways. It was very hard at first and I felt a bit of resentment. I even prayed for prosperity and happiness and contentment for her. I also tried to stay away from her as much as possible. Well, she is starting to be nicer to me. I told my husband, "Jesus was right, go figure!" LOL. I will continue and see where this all goes. I did have a volunteer say to me she thought the secretary was the nurse manager and I said "nope, she's the secretary". The volunteer said she realized that when someone approached the secretary about a blood sugar issue and she said, "you'll have to wait for the nurse" and then proceeded to dote over a dying plant. Guess that shows the priority.

OK, one more issue, constipation. I hope this isn't a TMI topic, but it is ridiculous. I am going to add probiotics, that is suppose to help. I have quit eating bran flakes for breakfast, trying to up the protein. BUT, I am eating a lot of vegetables and this is just ridiculous. I've been having sweet potato or butternut squash (a big bowl) with vanilla protein powder and flax seed for breakfast. At least 2-3 servings of fruits and veggies for lunch and dinner and this = constipation. Anyone have this issue. I read online it can be from declining estrogen, as that helps to lubricate the intestines. I have not completely been declared in menopause yet, but having big hot flashes and sporadic periods so know things are changing. Any tips would be appreciated

Melinda - So happy to "see" you :D!!!!!!!!! You are so funny but oh my - I can so relate to the whole "praying for the enemy" conundrum! IMHO you did it the best way - admit you didn't want to (which He knew anyway ;)!) but then you did it because it was the right thing to do . You made the Holy 3-in-1 might happy with that ! Better than I do sometimes ..... (okay, more than sometimes :p....) You may now change your mind about me being such a sweet heart ;)!

Re: the constipation... I'm afraid I have no insight :(. I'm pretty sure my only suggestion - adding more fat - is not actually something you are wanting to do.... The other thing is Miralax - everyone at Home Health and the nursing home here just think it's the best thing....

Good morning everyone! So good to "see" you Melinda. Has is really been ten years? I know that Lita, Tracy and I have gone even longer than that since we've "talked" since the dawn of time! LOL

Not TMI for the digestive issues. I believe that everyone should know how to get their bodies to work more efficiently. I have learned that if you don't "go" three times a day, then you are still slightly constipated. Wow, really. I didn't realize that the perimenopause would effect that, could be part of my problem too. I'm going to try and add some wheatgrass and drinking kombucha to add pro/prebiotics to the diet. Also the wheatgrass is supposed to help with the digestion issue (spirulina is supposed to be good for you too....antioxidants) I haven't started, got the wheatgrass, but just afraid of it I guess. LOL

Good heavens, Rhea, that sounds like quite the regimen :)! And yes, we've been together since the dawn of time... Jeez, just think how many AB forums we went thru before we came here :p....

Hi fit babes! Thank you Melinda! Great to see you all chatting here! But really, we are NOT as old as dirt, OK? LOL :p:D

Good for you on praying for the secretary Melinda! I have done no such thing for the mean girl at work. I can't get there yet because of things she's done. And I am not one who feels that way about people as a rule, she just takes the cake.

As for the constipation, I've had periods of it off and on throughout my life and I think Lita is right. I changed my eating plan this year and cut out more fat. I'm not constipated now but kinda close to it! A friend of mine has suffered with it for years. Prunes will do the trick for her. I've used sugar free Metamucil in the past and that's worked too. I hope it gets better for you Melinda because it can be miserable! :(

OK, get ready for the song..."Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, ha..lle..lu, ja!"

I found a WONDERFUL probiotic. It is Ultimate Flora 50 billion. I did a search online and found it on Amazon, got a 90 day supply. Got over 600 reviews and 77% were 5 star. Helped people with IBS, constipation, yeast issues, and more. Take a look to see for yourself. So I bought it out of desperation for my bloated abdomen and constipation. I had tried Milk of Magnesia, which would be a temp fix, but I did not want to take daily. I got this probiotic on a Sunday, took it at 4pm, and got results the next morning. I have since taken it 7 days at dinner time and had 7 days of easy poop. The feeling of bloat is gone! Plus, I think it's actually helping me with my seasonal allergies, as I'm not blowing my nose or sneezing much at all. I told my friend in AZ about it because she was having the same constipation problem. Then someone at work said she was in the same boat. I am going to take the whole bottle of 90 day supply and may just keep taking it. Trying to get DH to try it, he has IBS, but he is stubborn, UGH!
