Low Carbers and Friends - 2nd quarter 2015

Rhea - That is quite a dilemma - bless you for being so thoughtful of her fragile condition!!!! But what a conundrum - you're trying to protect her but it appears the job and/or life is too stressful for her to do the job. Oh for the wisdom of Solomon, huh????

Melinda - Are you okay???????? Miss you!!!!!!!!!

Hey Tracy - hopefully you'll get here before Sunday but even if you don't, I want to wish you a Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I had a bit of reading to do before posting! I saw the announcement about the new series and Cathe's description of what an intermediate person likes. I am going from memory, but I kind of did not fit into her classification. I feel that for the most part, I would say I lean toward advanced, but I have an intermediate approach. I don't like to kill myself at each workout and feel ready to fall over when I'm done, but I do feel I get good workouts and try to go somewhat heavy with weights. I just am to the point in my life that I don't want to over do things and get an injury.

Rhea, you were talking about having a tight back, I am finding that more and more with myself. I think I basically need to be stretching more than I do. Today I took an Aleve and it really helped the back. I look at all the workouts I have and the different focus on the series and at times can't figure out what I should focus on more. I have been doing the XT and RWH so much. Decided to do STS and could tell I hadn't done it in awhile. With that series I need to stretch more, all this takes so much time. There was one point that I wondered if I just shortened STS so that I could add on more stretching. I don't know.

I have not ordered the new series yet. And I have not done any workouts at work because the remote is missing and I can't use the dvd player, I've just been exercising at night after work. I'll have to go read what Cathe said about her new series, but I'm sure I'll buy it. I know there will be time, though.

Have a good week everyone.

Melinda - Great to see you :D :D :D! Huh - I didn't see a description of what kind of person likes intermediate - guess I should go read it now that I've ordered ... For me, I adapt every workout I do so I figure I can make these harder if needed - or just do them as is on a day I'm not feeling so perky. But so many of her workouts, there are moves I cannot do - I thought it might be nice for a change if I have a chance of doing a whole workout :p!

Lita, I think I read Cathe's description of intermediate on FB. It was awhile ago, everything is a blur, lol! I will have to go look at things, DH is not home, so I have some time to myself.

OK, I just pre-ordered the new series. I liked the core ones and also the tough floor leg workout. I am very interested in seeing what that has to offer. Any word on when the series would be ready?

Hi babes!! And thank you for the birthday wishes! DH set up some get togethers for me and some of my friends as a surprise. They were very nice! :D

Good to see you Melinda! The new series should be released in the fall. And I did workouts after work for years 'cause I'm no morning exerciser. I only changed after I got my dog!

There really isn't enough time to get all of the exercising in that I want! I've been sticking to the more recent series and then did the Timesaver Gym Style legs last week and I hurt for days! I hate dat!

This week is kind of a bust on workouts. I'll get one in tomorrow and then it's up in the air for W-F because I'll be out of the office for work. Our fiscal year ends on June 30 and I can't wait! There are way too many things crammed in between now and then!

Rhea, I feel for you and your quagmire! I would never wish a mental illness on anyone. And by the same token, I don't want to be affected by someone who has one either!

I'm glad we've all ordered the new series! I like getting everyone's opinion on new workouts. :);)

Have a great and healthy week!!!

Tracy - How sweet of DH !!! Sounds like a wonderful time!

I like that the new series is 40 - 45 min per workout :). I did see in Cathe's newsletter the description of "intermediate" - but I'm sure we can kick it up a notch if need be ;).

I haven't done any of the 'older' workouts in forever.... I know I should but I just really like the shorter times in the new ones. And they actually work better for me - the leg and cardio ones, anyway - with my hip. Maybe - a big maybe :p - I'll pull out an older one at some point :D.

Hey, Rhea - Happy Birthday!!!!! I know it's not until tomorrow (Fri) but wanted to catch ya if I could before the party began :p :D!

Happy Birthday, Rhea! Hope it was a good one.

Lita, I like the shorter workouts, too and also find them more effective. I checked my resting HR at work the other day and it was 60. I know it's from HIIT, because it used to be closer to 75-80. It would only go to 70 if I was laying down. The only thing is when I do the GS legs or other leg workouts where it's more just wt work, I really feel it! My legs feel fried, used to not feel that way. I have also started taking Aleve and it has really helped with my back and tightness through back and hip area.

Oh, I have had a chronic fatigue in my mid back for years when I walk more than 2 miles, so basically over about 20 min. I thought maybe it was posture (hand in pockets while walking or looking down more at the ground) so I've really tried to walk upright with my hands by my side. But still, I am having the problem. So now I'm starting to think it may be my breasts that are throwing me off. I am going to try to remember to wear some sort of weighted thing that will put a counter balance and see if that helps. It is so frustrating, as the pain in my back I can tell is the muscles burning with fatigue. Those muscles are fighting to keep me upright. Any other ideas that you all may have?

Have a good week!

Melinda - I am so sorry about your back struggle! One thing that helped me a LOT was to get a lumbar pillow . My one doc noticed I didn't have any normal curve in my lower spine, probably from so many years of hunching forward while I'm sitting/walking. Anyway, I got a cushion for my office chair and one for my home chair and it has made a HUGE difference! I should watch my posture more, too - I walk w/ my head down (or else I trip !) and hands in pockets too but just the pillow alone made enough of a difference for me. I was really skeptical when he first said I should use one .... However, I have NO chest at all so... that might be some kind of deal breaker ;).

As for the workouts, I'm sure I'd be really sore, too. But even back when I did longer ones if I had stuck w/ a series a while and then did some different series, I had the incredible DOMS to begin with. I'm sure that's why cross-training & variety are pushed so much but unless I decide to become more "athlete" and no longer am happy with "fit" I'm gonna stay with these new, shorter workouts !

Rhea - Did you have a good birthday :)?

Tracy - How's it going for you???

Hi fit babes! And HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY to you Rhea!! :D:D:D What did you do to celebrate?

I'm sorry for your back soreness too Melinda! I have found that if I'm on my feet a lot (not walking) or doing yard work, I get pain and soreness in my mid back. The best thing for me is supportive shoes, and getting new tennies more often. I used to go a year with a pair for my workouts but now I can only go 6 months. And I always buy on sale! As for other foot support, I spend the money and buy Dansko shoes. Super high arches and they definitely help me. I can walk in them forever. In the summer I don't wear them as often and I can tell!

Truly, there are not enough hours in the day to get all of the variety of workouts I want so I can avoid DOMS!:p Since I couldn't get them all in last week, I suffered getting back into it yesterday. Then I had to miss today because I needed to go to court with one of my attorneys at the last minute and tomorrow isn't looking too promising either! I'm thinking the second week of July is looking good now!

Things are still crazy at work. Wouldn't be quite so crazy if the @#$%&(! legislature would just pass the budget! We all got layoff notices today because if there's no budget by July 1, 25,000 state workers can't work. It's caused an enormous amount of extra work for my agency, i.e. writing letters and motions requesting post-ponements of hearings and trials, and the AG even wrote the governor and told him so. Bleah!

Have a great week! I will have to workout vicariously through you! :)

(((Tracy!!!))) Don't you wish we had the kind of hours the legislature works :p? Talk about a 2-day work week and a 5-day weekend ;)!

Hi everyone!

I had a pretty good birthday even though I didn't really get to do what I wanted (which was stay home and do absolutely nothing...lol) But it was the weekend of a year golf tournament, so I had to be semi-sociable. My golf clubs (new irons) arrived yesterday, so I got to play with them a little bit. I have extra help in the office, so I 'm very happy. Not looking forward to next week when I will have to let someone go. I guess that is the bad part of being the boss

I started up the third cycle of the STS series yesterday. I actually like the long one there only because I get my laundry folded during the breaks! If I remember right, I don't get that done during the leg portion since I have to do the plyo one and not the squat rack. Not looking foward to the legs......More of a dread.

I get the sore low back too after being on my feet for a long time. Must be a muscle memory/build up thing because I have noticed that it has been taking longer to get sore. Maybe the golf (which is a lot of twisting that back) is helping. I know I need to get more stretching in too.....but I just can't get up in the morning to do it, darn it.

I hope the legislature gets going for you Tracy. I know California actually passed their budget on time for once.
