Low Carbers and Friends - 2nd quarter 2015

Sounds like a perfect golfing day, Rhea - hope you take advantage of it :D! Remember the importance of variety - after a winter of doing indoor workouts, golfing would be a very nice change of pace, IMHO !

Okay - today I did S&G after having done the TBT upper/lower and CSS. Maybe I should've stuck with Afterburn/Athletic Training :p! There are a LOT of burpees, pushups and more importantly, walking/dragging planks in the workouts I did this week. Yowza - my body is one hurting unit  and I have another workout to go before I have my 5 in!

EEK!!! Lita. I hate getting those old ones out and then remembering why I dreaded them!

Rhea - Amazing how it kicked my butt - literally! When I did them before I didn't think they were effective . Granted, I added some extra moves/reps/exercises but holy mackerel !!! Gosh - now I might have to do them again next week to see if they work me hard again .

But I did wimp out this morning and did TurboBarre without the leg portion :D. Just a bit of light work to hopefully get rid of some DOMS.

Hi fit babes! You are all kicking booty on the workouts! :D Yowza!
Congratulations on the dreaded hill Melinda--and that it's not so dreaded anymore! :)
Ahhh, golf season is here when we can get it, huh Rhea? I live 1/2 a mile from a public golf course and have yet to go there! Pathetic I know. DH got there a few days ago to golf for the first time in years and he said he was terrible. That means we need to take more time off this summer to practice!
And Lita--GMTA! I was going to suggest TurboBarre for you!! ;) I admire your creativity in your rotations. On my own, I never seem to focus on endurance, or strength or power, etc. I just wanna try to cover all the bases! But I think I will get to the TBTs next week, thanks to you and the fact I haven't done them in forever!
No, I don't get paid overtime and am not taking comp time 'cause there's just too much to do. But I'm not putting in much overtime, I'm just running late on due dates and getting lots of extensions. Fortunately, everyone is understanding about it. :)
I am finishing up the Rw/H-XT rotation and had to do TB and AOLIH this week. I'm a hurtin' cardio woman! But I never would have done these 2 workouts in the same week had I not made an effort last year to up the cardio. Kinda proud of myself for doing that because if I had it my way, I'd do weights only. Forever and ever. Just like Anna Benson would. :D
Did I mention I lost about 10 or so pounds on the 21 Day Fix Extreme program? I incorporated a lot of the clean eating of that program and am keeping the weight off so far. My tummy looks better than my picture with Cathe here and I am pretty happy about that! :)
One last thing. I think I mentioned a while ago that I had an underarm rash I couldn't get rid of. It started about a year ago. Cortizone did nothing but after a huge flare-up that occurred in Feb. (this may be TMI so beware!) that mimicked a sunburn so badly my skin peeled, my dermo took a biopsy. Turns out I got something that's only been around since 1990! The cause isn't known, but I got an Rx called Calcitrene and it took care of it. I think it came about only because women have now been exercising since the 80s well past middle age. Just sayin! My dermo was surprised by the results but she is younger than me and has been in practice just 10 years. :D
Take care sweet babes!

Tracy - Congrats on that weight loss :D :D :D AND on keeping it off :D :D :D!!!! Sounds like YOU are doing awesome ! So glad you got that rash under control - how uncomfortable it sounded :(!

I'm with you on the weight workouts :p. But, IMHO, a lot of these newer cardios seem to be more TB workouts than just cardio! Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it seems easier to overtrain this way . Doesn't take many of those walking/pulling plank pushups to fry me, for sure!

Or you could be like me and just say....nope, not doing more of this today!! I stuck in Afterburn last night and was also planning on doing I RM testing. About 10 minutes into the AB, I stopped!! Heck no, not ready for this today. And my booty is still a little sore.....But I did do a bunch of 1RM testing for the Hypertropy phase of the STS. Glad I did, some of my 1RM needed updating and some I had never done. Will be nice to have an entire workout card with the weights listed. Of course, I may not like what the weights call for!!

Well, shoot, gotta get to a meeting, see you later!

Rhea - Way to go getting those 1RM tests done ! I tried back when I had STS but since I've sold that series, I don't worry with it any more :p. Hope your meeting went well!

Just as a note in case anyone else is doing what I did: On TBT lower, I noticed on the forward-leaning lunges and the side Dixie cup lunges that I was primarily rounding my back and not using my legs. When I made sure to do complete ROM with the leg, the difference in the work load was huge. I also made a few other changes - which I'll continue with - and it made it a far better workout. Truly killer on these muscles even in that short time frame. But I'm glad - before I kinda felt like I was wasting my time . I also now add some sets/reps to the upper workout to make it work me harder, too - so overall I'm now happier with the TBT Trisets than I was to begin with :).

Hi babes! Thank you Lita! I was shocked I lost weight at all since everything I've done before made no difference at all!

I agree with you on the cardio being more TB but I like it as well. I don't like it when the upper body is ignored! One of my favorites of Cathe's is Flex Train, from the series before Rw/H. Do you have that one? I did it today and it's tough of course, but somewhat merciful too! Lighter weights and with cardio too.

Thank you for the tips on TBT lower, I will make sure I use my legs and not let my back do the work,

Hi Rhea! Good going on getting your 1RM testing done! I too did mine with STS and ended up trying to do weights that were way too high for me. So I adjusted as needed.

Oh! I'm thinking of popping on the ask Cathe forum and researching whether anyone else has a heck of a time with the 2 upper body only workouts from Rw/H. I hurt for days after those and Cathe's other workouts don't do that to the extent these do. And I am not even near the weight she uses. I don't know if she worked to build up her strength before filming or what but I feel like a weakling after those!

Have a good week fit babes!

Tracy - Sounds like you just had to find the right thing for YOU :). No, I didn't get that series - nothing in it spoke to me. Well, you guys probably have better form than I do - some days I am horrified at myself when I glance in the mirror when I'm exercising :( .... Those RWH uppers kick booty, for sure! And no, I certainly don't match her weight either - how such a small thing can heft such weights around is beyond me ! I need to do that one again soon...

Rhea, you have to get outside while you can, same here with Ohio weather, so I say, GOLF!

Lita, I do not ride the bike fast, only about 10 mph, just in case you thought I was a racer! I get passed all the time by the other racing bikers.

So I found out I can workout at work in their fitness room, even while I'm on the clock as long as my schedule allows. SOooo, I did GS legs on Tue. Only problem was I didn't bring enough food and got super hungry later in the day. I don't think I will be able to do anything else this week, but it was still nice.

I have officially worked the month of April at the new job. I think it will take me 2 years to figure everything out, lol. Looking forward to the weekend, almost here!

Melinda - Wow, what a great benefit to be able to workout at your job!!!! Think how much time that will free up in your "off duty" time :D!!!! Awesome ! Hopefully you'll pack a better lunch or lunch/snack next time :). Jeez, just the thought of GS Legs gives me a major case of DOMS! Nah - I'll keep doing the 'nicer' workouts like LI, XT and RWH ;). Good - I'm a casual rider too - not that I've ridden for years. I suppose now that I have a new hip I could try it again... sigh... :p. I'm sure you'll have that job down pat in far less than 2 years!

Hi babes! I hope you are golfing a lot Rhea and that's why we haven't seen you. :)

I didn't find anything on Cathe's forum about the upper body workouts from Rw/H other than one Cathlete mentioning that Cathe definitely delivered on the cardio and heavy weight work in the series. Perhaps I should review the intros again to give myself a clue! :p

Melinda, that is awesome that you have a place to workout in at work! I am so grateful for my space at work, it is the perfect way for me to spend my lunchtime. Congratulations on completing your first month at your new job! :D I too believe it will take you less than 2 years to figure everything out! I've been with my division almost 3 years and I would know everything if it didn't keep changing all the time, LOL!! It's just the nature of what we do.

I haven't ridden a bike in years either and I won't be attempting it where I live--too many hills!

Lita, have you started a new rotation for May? I'm not doing one at the moment, just winging it and doing others besides Cathe that I've ignored for a while. :)

Have a great week babes!

Hey, Tracy, glad to 'see' you :D! Hopefully work has gotten a bit better for you :)????

I'm finishing up the LI series and am torn over whether to move on to XT or RWH. I'm kinda contemplating RWH, focusing on the circuit workouts the first couple weeks and then focusing on the strength workouts after that. The first time I did the series, I alternated weeks like Cathe had in her rotation. Shucks - how can it be so hard now and again to just decide what to do ??? 'Course, I think the XT series could work that way too - do the one set of workouts a couple weeks and then focus on the burn sets. Oh jeez, that's one more option . I'll keep you posted, how's that :p ;)?

Ok, so I have been golfing a lot, but need to get back to the weights since I miss them. I'm on week 2 of the hypertrophy and wow, I actually need to buy some more weight plates to put on the barbell!! I've been doing the weight as called for because I usually wuss out. I'm sort of glad that I didn't have enough weight to put on the barbell for the flat bench chest presses because 65 lbs was hard enough. I'm pretty surprised on how much I can actually do and now I really do get to total failure when I'm supposed to....

I'm back to being busy again since my deputy is once more out for a couple of weeks. She was in tears today and hopes that her medication gets straightened out. She's going to her mom's house so that there is somebody to watch over her while they adjust the meds. She's a good attorney and I hope this helps her. I do need someone to be here for the job, so this is probably the last chance. ( I think she knows that, but she also has worked for this all her life and can't just throw in the towel )

Ok, back to work for me! At least the next few weeks aren't too bad.

Rhea - You are a good person, my friend :). I hope your deputy can get everything straightened out - for both of your sakes. Sounds like you're doing awesome on the weights, girlie - you go :D!!!

Hey, there! I have been doing RWH mostly, love the shorter workouts. Had a snafu at work with the dvd player. There is no remote and the new series RWH won't go beyond the intro chapter, I can't start with there and then go to next chapter. I hate it when DVDs don't let you go straight to the main menu, like this new series. Everything is blocked (hope that makes sense). So I can't do them at work, I have to use older series.

Tracy, I think I'm going to check out that 21 day challenge you did to lose the 10#. I have been struggling to lose 5# I gained over the winter. Never in my life has it been this hard to lose wt. I think I'm close to menopause, so I'm guessing that is part of the problem.

Lita, from an earlier post about those dragging planks you talked about, those just about kill me. I can go backwards easier then trying to pull myself forward. RWH has really helped me with the other series workouts. I've thought about even trying IMAX, it has been a few years and wondered what it would be like now.

Rhea, glad you are getting out golfing. I really enjoy being active outside. I had an epiphany a few years ago that it really helps me to de-stress in a different way than exercising inside.

Oh, and I've given up on the 1RM. Now I just have certain wts that I use on certain moves and that's it. Maybe if I was using a machine instead of free wts and felt more stable I'd try a heavier wt.

Melinda - So good to see you :D!

I didn't realize RWH was that way :(! But I agree - even if they're shorter - and those dragging planks are killer - I think they have helped me immensely! But boy I tell ya - after my 5 days, I am MORE than ready for a day off w/ that series ;)!

I know I get frustrated when I try to skip a chapter and end up at the end of a workout. I can't remember which of the newer workouts aren't chaptered in premixes but it IS frustrating! Kinda like Core 1 being on every disc in LIS but Core 2 only being on one .... :p

Well, Lita, I never realized that about the Core 1 and 2 on LIS. I notice more and more dvds including movie ones, require you to watch everything they have posted, including some previews now, you can't just skip to the movie.

The tv at work has a dvd and vcr build into the unit. I'm thinking maybe I should pull out some of Tracie Long's dvds and try those for a change. Maybe Monday I'll give it a try.

Have a good week everyone

Melinda - I think it was just because I got so very tired of doing Core 1 over and over when I did the rotation Cathe set up when it first came out - and then getting so frustrated trying to find where Core 2 was so I could do it for a change ;). Hopefully the TL workouts will go really well for you :D!
