Low Carbers and Friends - 1st quarter 2015

Hey everyone. First time that I've been on the computer and the new website. Different. I think I like it. Tapatalk is sometimes a pain in the arse.

Melinda - as a "employer", well at least one that hires with an HR department in the government, offers are extended, accepted and then we can finalize with the drug screeening and background checks. So the only thing that would prevent you from getting the job is a flunked drug screen or a criminal charge popping up on your fingerprints! We know that is not going to happen! :D:p

Hmm, interesting smilies.

Lita - I'm for over here posting. I really don't like facebook a whole lot and can never find my way around.

Tracy - I love seeing how you are sticking to the program! Yeah! I always feel accomplished when I finish some sort of program. I bet that your clothes start fitting looser soon. That big M likes to make our body fight tooth and nail for every little pound of fat (I believe that is where all that estrogen is kept now... I could be wrong though) I'm hoping that the fat moves faster for both of us. Supposedly mine has, but I don't really feel it yet.

I started up STS this week. Thought it would be a good change. I was really surprised at my strength, especially since the first is really endurance. Somehow I have to make some time to do the one rep max exercises, I'm almost doing Cathe's weight! (and actually, I probably should be if I wouldn't chicken out so much)o_O:eek:

Talk to you later!

Hey Tracy - I was just looking at the 21 day program....tell me...how are those workouts compared to say....Cathe's HIIT. I do like to have the shorter type workouts for days I just run out of time. :(

Hi fit babes! Before I forget, did you all get Cathe's newsletter this week? if so, did you see the photo of Cathe and cast with a new set background? She's never had one with a park and trees before has she? Wonder if there's some filming going on! :D

Melinda, I am with Rhea on the hiring stuff. We do the same thing. And the delay could be due to spring breaks and people taking some time off. Hope you hear soon if you haven't already!

Good going Rhea!! I'm sure you will notice a difference any minute now! :):D

Yes, I've had positive results with 21 Day Fix Extreme! Yippee!! My clothes are looser for sure and I've had a couple of people tell me my face looks thinner. I haven't noticed that! Unfortunately, I am hungry a lot and at times I have grabbed either some almonds or a protein bar when I'm ready to eat the paint on the walls. Both items are considered cheats because they are not clean eats but I don't really care. Others who are checking in and on the program have had wine or chocolate or something else that's clearly not on the eating plan. So I don't beat myself up. The workouts are tough for sure, there's a lot packed into 30 minutes. There are 7 workouts on 2 dvds: Plyo which is a lot of jumping with and without weights; Upper Body with heavy and light weights; Pilates with a tube (that my arms can't quite do when they're needed!); Lower Body which is a sweaty killer; Cardio which leaves me in a sweaty heap; Dirty 30 which is a mix of everything; and yoga. And there's also an ab workout called Hardcore that I still can't get through without stopping. And it's only 10 minutes! Something to strive for. I would say they are Hiit except for the upper body and pilates ones. And there are 2 different programs, 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme. I'm doing Extreme.

My last day is this Sunday and I am nervous about blowing my hard work after that! I don't do well with deprivation (that's why I am not going to repeat it anytime soon!) and I have 2 friends who overdid it with food and drink after they worked so hard and then hated themselves. I know what I am going to do during the week, but then I'm going to SF for a long weekend after that. And wine tasting is one of the things we're gonna do! So I've gotta keep the self-talk positive and willpower in check. I will say this: I'm surprised I lost weight and it feels great that I did! I want that to keep motivating me.

Have a healthy rest of your week babes!

Tracy- CONGRATULATIONS :D :D :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like you are doing a terrific job ! That is the one problem with extreme measures - it's too easy to cave after them :(.... Maybe if you plan to remain a bit more strict thru the week then you can loosen up a bit in SF. Not more strict as in extreme - just a bit more judicious than you might otherwise be after 21 hard days :). I'm afraid I'd have to write down exactly what I was having or I'd be in big trouble..... But I'm a pig, lol!

Rhea - So glad to 'see' you! And of course, thrilled that you want to come here too :D! Way to go on those weights - you are rockin'!

Melinda - See - you know you can trust these 2 so I am sure all is well with your job endeavor :)!!!!

Tracy, how close to the workouts in the 21 day fix are they to RWH workouts. I saw something on youtube and it had similar moves. Do you think the biggest success comes from the diet?

Melinda - No foolin', huh ;) :p? So glad you have a start date - that's an obvious great sign!

I was reading an article today on Yahoo! (5 exercises even the best trainers won't do) and 3 of the 5 are ones we're very familiar with.... Namely, the plyo jump onto the step/box (which I don't do :p ), skull crushers (how would you work the tricep without involving the elbow unless all you do are kickbacks - and even that involves the elbow????) and torso twists with weights. A fourth one was long lever leg lifts (in a supine position) which we sorta do. Anyway.... Not that I trust these Yahoos (pardon the pun  ) over Cathe, just found it interesting in a "yeah, right" kinda way :D.

Lita, what was the 5th exercise? As for the job, I thought, OH, I hope this is not some big April Fool thing! Anyways, 1 week to go!

OK ladies, I have a problem and am hoping you can help. So when I go to sleep, if I wake up to go to the bathroom, which is every night, I can sometimes stay awake for 2-3 hours before falling asleep again. When that happens, when I wake up the second time, my body is FROZEN in place. It is like a major contraction took place, especially in my legs at the knees. I wonder if all the HiiT and higher intensity is causing me problems. I also wonder if this is just a winter thing, I don't recall it happening in the summer but then I also didn't have the RWH series then. So any clue as to what is happening to me? If I make sure to lay on my back the second time I am sleeping, I don't have the problem because my legs have to remain straight. It is all tied in with curling up while sleeping. When I wake up, it is like my knees have become put in cement and to straighten them is very painful. Any help or clues would be appreciated.

Oh, one more thing, the pain is not internal to the knee joint, it is like it's on the sides, like the ligaments freeze up, a super tight contraction.

Thank you Lita! I have added a few things in this week so I'm not so hungry and amazingly, I haven't wanted any junk! I will try to be diligent on my trip but not be crazy about it, or go the other way and not care about what I eat! A definite balancing act for sure!

Melinda, I'm very happy you have a start date! I believe it was the diet that did the trick for me the most. The workouts are tough but doable. The only thing I didn't like was that the warm up and cool downs are too short.

Gosh Melinda, I have no idea what is happening to you at night, and I am so sorry! I'm thinking something related to restless legs syndrome but I am no expert on that. Icing your lower legs for a few minutes each night might help, and perhaps using a foam roller on your legs to loosen your muscles. I also think that you may be waking up the second time from a sleep cycle where your muscles are contracted. I'm sorry I'm not much help! I'd be surprised if it had to do with Hiit workouts but I've been surprised before. :(

Melinda, the 5 were: weighted torso twist, behind the neck pulldowns, skullcrushers, leg raises for lower abs, and box jumps.

As for your conundrum - wow, that's a toughie ! Do you feel like you're having a huge body-sized cramp? I know muscle cramps are usually alleviated by taking magnesium and/or potassium, depending on the person. But if this isn't a cramp, that likely won't help :(. I wonder if you were able to go back to sleep instead of staying awake if the issue would be solved. Do you stretch before bed? Wonder if you're all knotted up from the git go and laying there awake makes you even more tense.... Huh... Sorry - I know that was absolutely no help  !

Tracy - I know you're gonna rock the trip with no problem :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a marvelous time!!!

Melinda - Hope you're feeling better or have a clue on what you need to do to make it better!!! Thinking of you :)!

Thanks, Lita. I have been suffering with hot flashes, really bad at night with night sweats. I think some of this might be stress related, seems I get an adrenaline rush, then a hot flash. UGH! Been trying to keep my legs relatively straight at night and not letting them curl up, that seems to help the most. I do take magnesium. Also hoping when it warms up it may get better. Oh, and I think I will try to stretch my legs a bit more. We have been doing those 4-6 mile walks and it is up and down hills, so maybe my legs are tight. I don't think I really am stretching enough with RWH either.

Tracy, congrats for finishing the stair climb in San Francisco! You have some great calf muscles! Saw the pics on FB

Good morning! Been busy with that STS endurance. Forgot how much it can work you and those darn push ups! Well, I really shouldn't complain too much as those push ups are making me much stronger. I actually can do 10 big boy push ups and my "intermediate" push ups are nice and full reps. However, having said that I did have to go to table top on those drop down sets at the end of the workout. At the beginning...okay, but at the end...wow petered out. Plus I am starving in the morning after I do weights.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Tomorrow is your start day, right Melinda? Have a great first day of work.

I also saw Tracy having fun in the Napa valley.. Hope she drank some wine for me. LOL

Lita - same ole same ole? Or anything new and exciting in your neck of the woods?

Rhea - Congrats on those pushups :D!!!!! I'm still a weenie when it comes to them ... I don't think my joints were designed for them :p. Pretty much same ole here except I decided I should do endurance for a few weeks since it's been forever. Started this week and thought I was gonna die ! I did Afterburn Sat then Athletic Training Sun (Super Cuts Mon) and hate to tell you how many times on the first two I had to pause the dvd :(. I forgot how tough those were - made Super Cuts seem a piece of cake compared to them!

Melinda - Good luck tomorrow !

Tracy - Hope you're having fun in the sun :)!
