Low Carbers and Friends - 1st quarter 2015

Hi babes! Thanks for all of your support! I got my Beach Body challenge stuff today, and there's quite a bit to it so I'm glad I have a little time to review things and plan stuff before I start March 2nd. I don't think I have to change a lot of what I eat now, but cut down on portion sizes. And no vino! A friend who is doing it has lost 7 lbs in 8 days but I am not expecting that for me. She's only 40! But I have needed some motivation to so something and I'm excited that I found it!

Rhea, I am not a morning person when it comes to workouts. I need my beauty sleep too and since I have a hard time getting to sleep these days, I don't push myself to get up earlier. I really like working out on my lunch hour. It takes me away from work, and I can give my attention to BB when I get home instead of trying to fit a workout in. Good luck with your BFFM challenge!! :D

Lita, what are you doing these days workout-wise? How is your hip doing? Will you be able to do weighted workouts with it soon? Do you ever have to change up your eating? I've always thought that you do really well in that Dept. :)

Take care fit babes!

Rhea - So glad to see you :D!

Tracy - I finished 8 weeks of RWH and am now doing the XT series. I actually went back to weights quite some time ago. I figured if it didn't hurt ;)... I will never be able to go heavy on lower body, though - that's just how it is. But I'm happy with where I am now, esp since they didn't think I would be using wts for lower body until April. All is well with the hip - it works far better than the old one :D. Thanks for asking! As for eating, I should clean up and become more purist but... I'm too much a hedonist . I'm up from my lowest but hopefully have not done too much damage lately. My problem is I just eat too much, period. I'm at an okay weight acc'd to most but could lose some fat (and loose skin) - however, after menopause, you supposedly need some fat. Let's put it this way - I will always be critical of where I am but I also know how much better off I am now than when I was in 6th grade, shorter, and weighed 189 ;).

PS - the best thing about the new hip is that I can actually do squats and lunges. With the old hip, the bones shifted around so lunges were out and on squats I could only go about 1/2 way into position. I had to do light wts with the old hip too - so that's the same. But getting full ROM makes a huge difference. I still have to go slower than Cathe on the squats but that's okay. Lunges are still a little tricky but much, much better than before . I'm sure in time it will all get even better :).

Lita, yes, we are frozen out here! It's been under zero degrees several days. that is so good news about your hip and recovery, I'm happy you've made such good progress!

I have officially finished by bachelors in nursing this week, whew! I interviewed for a community health nurse position and go offered the job, FULL time with benefits that start immediately. I will most likely take it, I just need to see the location of the clinic, it is at a church. I'm suppose to see it today. I would be there 3 times/week, then do health screenings one day and immunization clinics one day. Good variety and I get to go to different locations, which is good for me. I also want to negotiate the pay a bit from what they offered. I will keep you updated on that.

So I pulled out the low impact series yesterday and did Afterburn and made it through, I believe thanks to tabata and the Ripped series. I do feel like I have more endurance and strength. I will have to figure out a workout time, but it will be after work, I can't workout early in the a.m. any more. My sleep comes and goes and I'm more alert later in the day. There may be times I can workout at lunch, but not all the time. My best time to work out is between 4-6pm.

Melinda - It is great to 'see' you :D! CONGRATULATIONS on the bachelor's AND the job offer!!!! Please do keep us posted - inquiring minds need to know ;)!!!! Sorry you're so cold - it's been brutal for my sister in PA for over a month now - and she's not suffering nearly as much as Boston ! Nasty stuff :(.

I think whatever time works best for each of us is the time we should do! A time that doesn't work - or where you're not alert - is never going to be the 'best' time regardless of what the 'experts' say :).

Melinda!! Congratulations on both the job and the end of the schooling!! WHOOT WHOOT!! Hope it warms up for you a bit. You could send some of the snow over to the mountains in CA if you want.....we aren't getting any that helps with the drought.

Hi babes! I'm so happy I popped on here to read such good news!!! CONGRATULATIONS to Lita for a better hip and better movement and to Melinda for finishing school and getting a job offer!!! Both of you ROCK!!!!! :D:D:D

Now if we can just get Melinda's area to warm up...

Our ski season is non-existent this year so we're without mountain snow just like CA. Hope we don't end up with a drought here! There was one summer here when we did quite a few years ago.

Anyhoo, started the Beach Body 21 Day Extreme today. Sooooooo very glad I've done Rw/H because otherwise I'd have been whining up a storm in the first workout I had to do! Instead, it went OK. And the eating is extreme in the sense of clean eating only. I can't remember the last time I did that, if ever! Atkins protein bars have been a staple for me for years. And I made some simple calculations to get into a calorie goal range, and the eating plan isn't calorie based, it's portion sized so that's good. Very little carbs, lots of lean protein, fruits and veggies, limiting on the fat quite a bit too. But boy, I was WAY over the top on my fat intake, there was no way I could burn off as much as I was eating in a day. But unfortunately, I'm hungry and I was hoping that wasn't going to happen. But I will be done with this in 3 weeks so I will assess myself then.

Have an awesome week fit babes!! And try to stay warm Melinda!!

Tracy, I have been putting coconut oil (about 1/2 TBSP) in my coffee and it really curbs the appetite. Yes, there's the fat, but I am not thinking about food and think I'm eating less.

I took the job after visiting the church. Got a bit more in pay from my negotiating. Will start in about 3 weeks. I'm nervous, but think once I get used to things it will be good. From what I have seen, there's a good group of nice people there. Will let you know if this is correct.

I have yet to start any rotation, I just switch things from upper to lower body and throw in the HiiT.

Tracy and Rhea, you can have all this snow! If I could send it to you, I would.

Lita, I agree about being alert and that being the best time to exercise. The afternoon, right before dinner works best for me. I think it has to do with my body having a chance to digest lunch and being ready to use the energy.

Thanks, Lita!

Hey, I saw on tv yesterday that there is more of a push to just be active and not worry so much about prolonged strenous workouts. I know, this is the basis of HiiT. Anyways, they said 2xwk 20 min HiiT and 3 x wk strength training, I'm guessing no more than an hour. On Dr Oz, they said the shorter HiiT workout is really the best for cardiac health

OK, i know I am way behind you all, BUT I finally took a look at the rotations that were in the RWH series booklet. The only one I think I would attempt is the first one, called getting started with HiiT. My thinking is that this is all the HiiT I want to do, I will just add my own yoga or I've also pulled out the rebounder and do that when I watch tv in the evening or want to get moving for a few minutes. This rotation is 5 days a week. I think I am going to move to this, it is less of a mental burden to follow this plan and I can still put in some things that I want on the days off.

Melinda - That's the one I did :). I think I'm finally getting to a place where it's not about the schedule - it's about how I feel. So this week I only did 3 days - wts and just a few HiiTs each day (from the XT series). When I try to do the longer HiiTs (like all of Tabatacise), my joints just get too sore. And I'm thinking that's not a good thing ;). Plus I am hungry all the time ! That's definitely not a good thing .

Ladies, I have been thinking since Tracy made the comment about you all visiting on FB.... Would you all like to keep coming here, too, or is this just too much? Just let me know.... I'd miss you all terribly bad but I would understand.

Lita, I want to keep coming here! I am very inconsistent on FB. I ignore it a lot, only because I often don't have time to go through all of the posts people make on a daily basis. Plus, I don't post there much and I don't see Rhea or Melinda there a lot when I do get on there. :D

Congratulations Melinda!! I hope you find this job to be everything you hope for!!!

I'm on week 2 of eating clean and daily 30 minute workouts that are tough!! I'm glad they are tough so I don't feel I'm wasting my time. Lots of Hiit stuff, but one workout is just for upper body and another only uses the tube. I will definitely use these after I complete the program, but not the one I hate, hee hee! That one is lower body work and I kept lowering my weights while doing it! Still getting hungry more than I want to but I'm kinda used to it now! I have been doing a lot of thinking and note taking on what I will do when this is over so I can stay on track.

And I can't say I've seen a big difference or lost much weight. For one, my scale really broken and my clothes fit no differently. Lots of people drop weight quickly with this (probably water weight) but I know it will take me a while before I see any changes. It's just the way I am. :)

Have a great week babes!

Tracy - I am so glad :D! I was quite sad thinking I'd lose touch with everyone!!! But you know me - I do NOT FB or Twitter or any of that stuff! When I get that much time on my hands, I'll get a dog ;).

I'm sure the results are already showing up - just not in drastic measures :). Hang in there - you're doing a great job! Being hungry is something I can't stand so that would blow it for me ! I remember Susan Harris saying about not giving in that if you stop and think, your next meal isn't that far away. But I tell ya, when I'm so hungry I'm ready to lick the paint off the walls, any amount of time is too much :p!

You're kicking butt on the workouts and I'm sure in a week or so those efforts will pay off in visible form :D. Hang in there, my friend - if nothing else, you're learning a lot during the process and it's all stuff you can apply to the future so it's all good, IMHO !

Edit - Tracy - I just have to tell you about one of my favorite Garfield cartoons. I've had it for years. Anyway, Jon is telling Garfield that if he chewed longer, it would seem like he had more food. So Garfield tosses down the bowlful all at once and says "No, if I had more food it would seem like I had more food." :D :p :D :p

Lita, I want to keep meeting here. I'm like Tracy, I don't see that many posts on FB by the rest of us and this keeps me in line with everyone here!

As for working out when you feel up to it, I am doing that more and more. I was suppose to work out today, but I was on the road for 13 hours yesterday, traveling out of state for work, working, then driving home. I planned on exercising today, but just didn't. I will have to get to it tomorrow.

As for the job, I've done the drug screening and fingerprinting. They are checking references now, as someone told me they got contacted today. So hoping they will get done with it all this week and we can get a start date set. I have not made a major announcement to anyone about this until I have the start date set, I guess I proceed with caution now a days.

Melinda - So glad you still want to meet here, too :D!!!! I think we're a pretty good group of gals ;). Guess I'm surprised they're doing all this checking AFTER they hired you ! Sounds like how the people in my office work :p! This past round of 5 days I really wanted to skip yesterday but didn't want to be 'lopsided' since that would've left bis and tris out . Other than that, I would've slept in, instead .

Lita, it is weird about this job. There was an offer and a pay negotiation which was accepted. But I am wondering if it is not all official until this other stuff is done, maybe I misunderstood or maybe the offer is not official until they get all the other stuff passed. Hoping to hear from them Monday, but only one reference was contacted, so not sure about the rest. My current health screening employer HR dept will not be much help for verifying any info, as I started with them when there was only 40 employees and now they are much bigger and actually have an HR dept now (they didn't for many years). I am not going to worry about it, I'm sure it will all work out.

DH is really sick, has a bad headache, chills, sore throat. No fever. I've heard this is going around and lasts about 4 days. He was up all night. I had a sore throat last week, but he is worse. I hope he doesn't have something different and that I don't get it!

Melinda - I'm sure all is fine with the job. They'd be crazy not to hire you :D!!!! So sorry DH is ill :(! Fingers crossed it passes quickly - and you don't get it!!!
