Low Blood Pressure

I just was curious if anyone out there has also experienced this. Since I have lost 19 pounds, my blood pressure which used to be normal all the time is now low. I had it taken is June and the nurse said that this was normal in people that worked out and were fit. I had it taken this last Saturday for Life insurance purposes and the nurse said I know you are alive because I'm sitting here talking to you. I'm kinda concerned. I'm seeing my OBGYN next week so I talk with her about it.

Cinnamon-
I've had low blood pressure on and off during my life. Whenever you have light-headedness when standing up, be sure to eat something salty. I've even been known to lick salt just to get back my equilibrium. Ignore the low-salt advice everyone gives, and know that you are different and need as much salt as you can get. And, of course, plenty of water too.

Hope this helps,
Nancy

Yes, I experience this as well. If you exercise a great deal, make sure you are rehydrating adequately. Increased salt intake can help this problem because it encourages water retention, which can increase blood pressure. So, the point is, if you have low blood pressure and are feeling negatively as a result (light headed, etc.) you may be dehydrated and should try to increase your fluid intake. It's a simple thing to do, so why not give it a try and see if it helps? Of course, if you're feeling fine, then don't worry about it. You're very healthy!!

Hi,
My blood pressure used to be about 115 over 72.Since I have been working out is routinely about 100 over 60. No problems here

I too also have low blood pressure. Not only do I exercise 5 or 6 days per week, I also have hypothyroidism. This thyroid disorder has many symptoms: dry skin and hair, heavy painful periods, being cold a lot, slow metabolism, difficulty losing wt., and yes-low blood pressure. Everyone suggestions are right on-increase your salt and water intake, and maybe you should also have your thyroid checked. Sounds like this could also be hypoglyocemia. Your doctor can test you for both of these.

Take Care,

Diana

Thanks for all your reply's. There are only a few times that I do feel light headed and that is usually after I run. I keep myself hydrated. I had kidney stones in June because I was not drinking enough, so since then I drink at least 64 oz a day. I do not want to go through that kind of pain again. I thought I was going through child birth for the third time. I will try the salt intake. I do like salt!

Hi - another low blood pressure person here also! They always ask me if I'm really alive also! :) But my Dr. says I'm text book perfect for health and that it's great! Since heart disease and high blood pressure run in my family, I'm trying to keep it that way!

I have low blood pressure also, once my doctor did mine and it came in at 98/60 had to retake it again and just rose slightly. and I feel ok with mine, only now and then do I feel it when I stand up real fast or get out of a real hot bath. but that is rare for me.

I hab=e low blood pressure too. Sometimes I have to have it taken sefveral times to get a reading. I don't have any problems.

Diana,
I have low blood pressure (low side of normal, that is) and hypothyroidism as well. I never thought of them as being related before.
