Losing 10 lbs.

I ma trying to lose 10 lbs. and having a very hard time. I have had to wittle down my eating habits to eggs, turkey bacon and oatmeal to breakfast lunch and dinner (due to financial reasons). Since finally getting employed I have started adding a little more food and more variety. i was told with the amount of exercising I was doing I should be around 1800 calories and was only taking in around 1000. i was told this was the reason I was not losing, was that my body was not taking in enough. Is this true and if so if I start eating what I should be will that mean I will start losing weight? I am trying to keep with the Zone way of eating and have also looked into the Curves diet which supposdly teaches your body how to lose and gain and teach your body how to eat more and keep your metoblism up. Thanks, I am very desperate to get rid of this last 10!!! Kathleen :)

Hi Kathleen. Obviously I"m not Cathe...but I did lose 10 lbs this month. You can check out my diet & exercise regimen on DVD rotation site. It's titled, "Results of Mel's Complete Weight Loss Rotation". 10lbs really isn't that much weight. ;)

You definitely need to add some veggies to your diet!
Those last 10 pounds are the hardest, IMO, and the last 5 of those even harder, but it takes consistency in diet and exercise and finding the right amount (not too much, not too little)for you.

Hey Melanie!

Wow, Melanie!! I read your rotation and then went over to the Mommies Forum and read your weekly check-ins -- holy cow, girl!!! Hat's off to you for a phenomenal result, and for your incredible determination!!   And to do all that with a wonderful but demanding little baby boy, a toddler and an elementary-school aged child too?? Ohmigosh, I can't even imagine -- you're amazing!!

Your determination is really inspiring me to try to kick it up a notch. Mind if I ask you a few follow-up questions?

You said (somewhere, can't remember which place :)) that previously you worked out 4 to 5 times a week, and I know that you were diligent with your workouts during your pregnancy with Jadon but obviously didn't do anything near the intensity or 2X a day routine like what you did in January. When you got back into working out at such a heavy pace, did you have any "feedback" from your joints, from doing so much so soon? (The reason I ask is that I have really wonky knees, and to protect them I know I'd need to modify a lot of the impact in your rotation.) How about overall aches and pains or DOMS, or extra fatigue? Once you launched your modified South Beach program, how did that affect your energy? And, now that January's over, in addition to your weight and inches loss what would you say are your gains -- did you add mass, or strength, or endurance, or what??

Mel, again, congratulations on your beautiful new baby boy, your other little ones who I'm sure are equally as wonderful, and on such FANTASTIC results from your January workouts!! You are a real role model!

Yikes! It sounds like you're putting your body in starvation mode so it's trying to hold on to any calories that you eat. This will slow your metabolism waaaay down. If you start eating more, you will probably start taking the pounds off. You definitely need to add some veggies and fruit to your diet, and some lean protein. I've been using sparkpeople.com to help me, plus I'm just trying to eat clean and healthy.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the great info! And I thought with the little amount I was eating, that my body was clinging to all the calories I was taking in, which was the reason for my 0 calorie loss!! But how do I had another 600-800 calories without gaining a whole bunch of weight??? thx, :)
