Looking for program

I am just starting out getting back in shape. I have been going to the gym for 3 weeks 6 days mainly doing cardio to help start the weight loss program and I am trying to find a program that I will be able to start and do at home. My membership to the gym will be up in Apirl. Is it possible to start with these DVD's and do the best you can? Or do you need to be in top shape to start them? Also if you don't have a barbell can you just use dumb bells?

Yes, you can do the best you can and not be in top shape. (We're all doing this to hopefully get in great shape!) I think that's the beauty of doing the 1RM so you start at the appropriate fitness level for YOU. I know there are other people doing this program that are not in top shape.

I think having a barbell is beneficial, but you can do without until you can get one later.

I believe most levels can do this, since it's based on your 1 rep max weights, it really is tailored to the individual. However, I personally would not recommend this to someone who is an absolute beginner without some basic knowledge of lifting free weights.

I've heard you can use dumbbells to replace most any barbell exercise, but I am very happy I decided to buy one and really enjoy using the barbell for variety in lifting.

There are some inexpensive 55 pound and 100 pound barbell sets out there, I ended up buying 2 sets of the 55 pound, but I just found this 100 pound set at Walmart for only a few dollars more than the smaller set. And you can use the 'ship to store' option to save the shipping fee.

If you want to see more of STS, there are clips on this site, and I'm pretty sure on collagevideo.com too.

Just a personal plug, I really love the program, I'm in meso1 week 4 now, and am thrilled with my decision to purchase STS.

Good luck in whatever you decide!
