Looking for new cardio

rose2boys

Cathlete
to do on non-STS days that is short (around 40-45 min), FUN & intense. Going thru a phase where I'm bored with all my cardio right now.

Any suggestions?
TIA!

Marlold:Thanks so much for the info. I'l definitely look into it further if i start running again.

Looking more for DVD workouts now though.

Any suggestions?

Just an FYI...you can use CC for more than running...

But back to your question on DVDs. In all honesty, I have stopped purchasing anything but Cathe. I have only seen gains in my aerobic and strength from her. Unless you are looking for recommendations on her workouts, I cannot be very helpful to you. Hopefully some of the educated crowd can help you more. :) HTH and Good luck to you! :)

I'm doing STS and I'm using CC for most of my cardio workouts. I do them on an elliptical. I also do kettlebell workouts and many of them have a cardio effect. I have no idea what else to recommend, but then I typically hate cardio and prefer to do it on machines. What about some kickbox DVD's? Powerstrikes, Kimberly Spreen, Amy Bento, and Tracey Staehle all seem to be popular.

I vote for Amy Bento. The music is good, the choreography is complex, and the workouts are tough. I love her hi/lo and I hated it before I found her workouts. The workouts are not always perfect and you may have to modify a few moves, but to me it's worth it.

not sure if you already have them (from you profile, it appears you don't) but how about rhytmic step and cardio hits? among non-cathe workouts my favorites are christi taylor (fantastic four) and andre houle (advanced step--it is not available in dvd though).

I am always looking for new cardio too and find that I have a difficult time finding advanced cardio DVDs. Cathe has been the best I've found. I do like Amy Bento and Kelly Coffey-Meyer. Rather than buying, sometimes I add to my netflix queue if they are available. It allows me to try them out first and if I really like, I'll buy.

Christi Taylor is a lot of fun! Great music and she is very upbeat and fun to workout with:D My Christi favorites are:
*Fantastic Four- great fun and value with 4 cardio workouts on one dvd
*Totally Cool Step
*Mission Possible- basic step and hi/lo but puts me in a really good mood! 40 minute sweatfest!!!
*Fit to Dance- fun interval cardio. Not as intense as Cathe's but fun and good calorie burner.

You can view most of her workouts in this link (click on her name on the right)

Ok, it's an hour long, so longer than you are looking for, but I think there are some pre-mixes, and it really fits the FUN bill, Amy Bento's new Kickbox surge dvd is super fun with great music.

I'll second that! Mine came yesterday.:D I just previewed it- Fantastic music!
It looks like so much fun! I can't wait, I'm going to do it in about a hour after everyone is off to work and school:D

What other options are there for advanced low-impact cardio? My knees are really, really starting to have problems. I have LI circuit and LI step, but I think that I might need to abandon the step altogether.

I don't know what the exact problem is with your knees, but I started having major problems with my left one after running, doing step, and weighted squats. They call it runner's or jumper's knee and suggest this band that goes just below the kneecap. Within a week of wearing it, my knee pain is gone. I do not run, lift, or do step without wearing it.

Hi, Lee,

Not meant to hijack the topic. Ever since you and ladies here introduced me CC, I fell in love with "him". I used it for my walks everyday from train stationn to my office.

My question to you is how do you use CC on NonSTS days? Do you change each volumn every time? How long normally did you do for NonSTS CC days? This AM was the first time I used CC (Vol 2 to run outside with my DD). I realized how tough it is with real running. I could not run to level 3 in Challenge 3. But it said only 37 min. I need to ramp out cardio to lose some fat.

Thanks

I can't believe no one has mentioned Kimberly Spreen. She's awesome and her workouts kind of sneak up on you in that oh so arse kicking kinda way. ;)
