Looking for Best Juicers

I am going to ask my hubby for a juicer for Christmas but I want to make sure I am specific about which one. I want to use one that is not noisy as I'm up very early, one that has easy clean-up, doesn't destroy great antioxidants, and one that I can easily do wheatgrass or any vegetables like carrots without over=working the motor. Has anyone used the Juiceman Elite? The Juice Fountain???

Please, if you have any info. send it my way. I hate to pay for something that doesn't have good reviews.

Thanks!

Lori

I plan on getting this one for ME for Christmas:

http://www.highvibe.com/index.cgi?id=51845257162-1029&c=Kitchen_Tools

I was reading about it in a raw-foods book, and it is highly recommended. It can take large amounts (like a whole lemon) and can do wheat grass as well.

I used to have an ACME, and it was very good, but hard to clean. It didn't shoot out the pulp, but collected it in the spinning basket that you had to clean often (and the little pieces of carrot, etc., were hard to clean from the metal holes that the juice was spun through). It's a brand that's been around for over 20 years (I got mine around 1978).

I also tried a Jack Lalane juicer: a very cheaply made thing with lots of plastic. Didn't seem like it would last.

There's another kind of juicer that you'll find in health food stores that's also been around for over 20 years: the Champion juicer. It separates the pulp from the juice, so you can juice continuously. You can also make applesauce and , I think, peanut butter, with it.

I found some juicers here:

and here:

Just to add: that last link I gave you probably has the most information on juicers, and the largest selection of juicers, as well as customer reviews of different juicers.

Which one Kathryn? The Green Star or the Breville? There were 2 on that page. Boy! some are expensive aren't they! I don't want a cheaply made one though so I'll consider it if it's good.

I will check out the sites you sent me.

Thank you!

I have an Omega Juicer (has spinning basket) and a Champion Juicer. The Omega is easier to clean up in my opinion and doesn't take up as much space as the Champion. But, there are differing opinions as to the health benefits of the "spinning" type of juicers verses the masticating (Champion).

The Champion is nice because the pulp shoots out the end and you can continuously juice and (again) the nutrient value is greater due to mastication, but you can't get quite as much juice as from the Omega. The one MAJOR benefit (not always noted) to the champion is your ability to make incredible icecream. If you take frozen bananas and frozen strawberries and feed them into the machine alternately with the solid plate on.....out the other end will come a swirl of something IDENTICAL in taste and texture to icecream. I think it's truly amazing. We get plain cones and swirl it right into them and the kids think it's the real thing...REALLY.

On the flip side....the Champion is BIG AND HEAVY, but I think if I had to have one...that would be it.

Now...if you want to juice wheat grass (and I would like to do this)..you really need the green power and the price on the site Kathryn listed is very good. I wish I had one. The Breville stated that it's not good for wheat grass for some reason although I'm not surprised as I would be amazed if you could get a good wheat grass juicer for only $149. If you are serious about wheat grass juicing...save for the green power!! Happy juicing!!

Strange that the Breville says it's not good for wheat grass, because the raw foods book I got the recommendation from says it IS good for wheat grass. Hmm...

I have read that some juicers that aren't usually advertised for wheat grass will take it if you wrap the wheat grass in a leaf of lettuce before putting it in the juicer. (Or maybe it was a demo of a Jack Lalane juicer I saw where they did that).

I think for wheat grass there are some manual crank juicers available for much less than $100.
