HI folks -- Longtime lurker here -- I rarely post, but that will probably be changing...

I ended a 7 year job in a financial institution last week to be a SAHM to my 3 year old daughter Megan. I have had the best week with her and look forward to many many more. I can't believe how happy I am and I see a difference in Meg already. Things are really great!

I have been a fitness professional in the past (before the sit-down job) and I have remained certified all this time. I just signed paperwork to be a sub at the place I first started teaching classes back in COLLEGE! Things really come full circle, don't they?

Long story short -- I now have the time to post more. Before I would browse the boards on breaks, but never really got into any conversations with anyone -- I never made any friends like some of you have. Hopefully that will change. I didn't sign up for a road trip this year - we're going to Disneyland next week, and that will be the last trip for awhile -- we are a one income family now -- luckily I bought and paid for STS when the pre-sale began!

Well, I'll be around. Let me know when the drama begins... It's a guilty pleasure, but I love reading the "heated" posts. }(

Hi Charlene, and welcome out of the shadows and into the light :) . I look forward to joining you in some of those *AHEM* "heated" threads, not that I'm a trouble maker in any way :p
 
Glad you could make it back and even happier for you that you are able to stay home with your DD:7

I was lucky enough to be able to do that myself until my kids were almost all out of elementary school and am so glad I did - they are now 19, 21 & 23 and say they are glad I did too !

I just received an E-mail this morning about being "Just a Mom"...it had pictures attached but here is the written part of it. Enjoy the special times with your daughter!

A very special message for all the moms, grandmothers, aunts and any other loving person to children.

It’s also for the children who need to be aware and grateful for the unselfish acts the first category of women set forth.

JUST A MOM?

A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office,
was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation.

She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.

"What I mean is, " explained the recorder,
"do you have a job or are you just a ...?"

"Of course I have a job," snapped the woman.

"I'm a Mom."

"We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation,

'housewife' covers it,"
Said the recorder emphatically.


I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself
in the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall.
The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised,
efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like,
"Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar."

"What is your occupation?" she probed.

What made me say it? I do not know.
The words simply popped out.
"I'm a Research Associate in the field of
Child Development and Human Relations."

The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in m midair and
looked up as though she had not heard right.

I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words.
Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written,
in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.

"Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest,
"just what you do in your field?"

Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice,
I heard myself reply,
"I have a continuing program of research,
(what mother doesn't)
In the laboratory and in the field,
(normally I would have said indoors and out).
I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family)
and already have four credits (all daughters).
Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities,
(any mother care to disagree?)
and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it).
But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers

and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money."

There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she
completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.

As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career,
I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3.
Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model,
(a 6 month old baby) in the child development program,
testing out a new vocal pattern.
I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy!
And I had gone on the official records as someone more

distinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another Mom."

Motherhood!

What a glorious career!
Especially when there's a title on the door.


Does this make grandmothers
"Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations"
And great grandmothers
"Executive Senior Research Associates?"
I think so!!!
I also think it makes Aunts "

Associate Research Assistants."

When I put in my notice at work, I said something similar. I said I was quitting to focus more time at my other job - MOM, Inc. I am Administrative Asst to the CEO. Benefits include a company car seat, snack options, and business trips to the park, library and museum.

A sweet lady from work took that idea and surprised me with t-shirts on my last day. One for me that said MOM Inc, Admin Asst and one for my daughter that said CEO. So cute!

Thanks for the welcomes... I will be back soon. I'm pulling those long hours on a Saturday trying to impress the boss!! :)
