Long Time Lurker, First Time Poster - WW?

Hello, Catheites.

I've a question for all you fit ladies (and fellas)...

I could stand to lose 10-15 lbs but I want to do it FOR GOOD this time 'round. I've lost weight before (usually by way of under eating and over exercising) only to snap back the other way and binge for weeks on end until I gain back what I lost (and usually a few pounds extra).

I see a therapist to cope with my binge eating and she suggested Weight Watchers. My friend belongs to Weight Watchers and she said her sign up fee was a mere $9! (She now weighs in at home and doesn't attend the meetings.) I'd really, really prefer to do it via online as opposed to 'in person' meetings. I just visited their website but it looks like the online option is quite a bit more expensive.

Suggestions? Advice?

TIA!

Welcome, Wormwood! Interesting user name. Is there a story there, you know, apart from the fact that it's a prison in the UK?:p

I know there are a number of WW ladies here who can probably help you, and there might even still be a WW check-in in the Check-Ins forum!

Welcome, wormwood!

Love the avatar...ahhh, Monty!

You might want to look into SparkPeople.com if you're interested in an on-line program. I love it! I told a friend who was on WW online about it; she tried it for a week or two, and quit WW because she liked SparkPeople better...and it's free!!!!

Good luck!

Hi Wormwood! If you do a search of the forums you'll come up with a wealth of information. Good luck & welcome! :)

Thanks for the info! Thanks so much!!!

Shelley - when Monty was making "Suddenly Last Summer," he and co-star Mercedes McCambridge would pass the prison on their way to the set. The name of the prison struck them as hilariously ironic. The movie, as you may know, was not made under the best of circumstances - Monty was not well, Katherine Hepburn was treated miserably by the film's director, Joseph L. Mankiewicz, and the subject matter of the film was lobotomies and cannibalism. So... whenever they needed to lift one another's spirits, Monty or Mercedes would shout, "Wormwood Scrubs" - and they would smile.

(I'm kind of a Montgomery Clift FREAK.)

I lost 25 lbs doing WW online, then recently switched to meetings so that I can make lifetime membership after I reach goal (hopefully soon). It's worked well for me, and I thought it was cheaper to do it online, so not sure what info you're finding.

Ok, I just went to their website and I think it's because the first month online is costly, but additional months are pretty cheap in comparison. It's been a while since I first signed up online so I'd forgotten about that initial cost.

WW online (or meetings) has worked great for me and I highly recommend it, but I would suggest you also look into these other options people have mentioned to see what will work best for you personally (and I might look at them as well--always nice to check out other programs!)

p.s. Before moving to NY I lived a couple miles from Wormwood Scrubs for 2 years. :) Interesting movie trivia.

I love Tennessee Williams -- he sure could write 'em, couldn't he?

I remember Elizabeth Taylor in that white swimsuit...and Katherine Hepburn was so creepy withthat Venus flytrap and she would say, as only Katherine Hepburn could, "Suddenly, last summer, Sebastian died!"

Sorry, I know nothing about Weight Watchers but...

I thought Elizabeth Taylor was fantastic in "Suddenly, Last Summer." Katherine Hepburn was great, too, but the speech Elizabeth gives towards the end of the movie, the one during which she reveals what actually happened to Sebastian, was marvelous. I also thought she was great during her scenes in the hospital, particularly the first time she meets Monty's character.

I like Monty A LOT, too.

WW ROCKS!!

I lost 40 pounds and the program does work. I don't know about the online program. For me the in person meetings are the key to success. Having to go every week and getting remotivated was key.

I lost 50 pounds doing WW online only and did the weekly meeting for 6 weeks just to get the lifetime members status; I still prefer online version though as I am not a meetings type of gal - it cuts into my workout time.

I am still subscribed to it online but rarely use it now I only do a week or two per month (hmmm I may look into that spark thing) - the program does work, I highly recommend it.
