Long distance runners-Dani and Carole

Thanks for thinking of me. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/fsc/smile1.gif The 18 miles went well. Our training group finished in about 3 hrs 35 minutes. I kept thinking of everyone's well wishes here and that kept me going. My knee was bothering me a little afterwards, but I iced it up and it's doing much better today.

Dani, do you read Runner's World? I've been hearing things about over hydration (hyponatremia) lately and there's a good article about it in the October issue. I looked for it on the website but didn't see it there. Small women and those finishing a marathon in more than 4 hours are more susceptible.

Congratulations on finishing the 18 miles! :) That's quite a milestone. Just think, only one more brutal long run to go before the big day. I know that's what I'm focusing on these days. My butt is dragging!!

WOW Dani and Carole! Way to go! How long did you guys train for these? Carole I know you run all the time but Dani I didn't know you did! You both are awesome and I would love to achieve this someday.

All tips would be appreciated :)

Terri

Wow! You too Dani. I haven't been on here as much this weekend. Great job! Oh, how I wish you lived even closer to me. I'd love to have a running partner. All of you (Dani, Carole, Elaine) are an inspiration to me. Do you girls treadmill train at all? It's really hard for me to get out and run with three young ones at home.

I know the marathon here is quickly approaching. Good luck Dani!

Robin...thanks!! Sweet of you to start this thread... I had a great time..:)

Terri...yes I have run for a long time...:)...Dani though is making me remember my first marathon. The training can be brutal but your body adapts as you put in more miles. I prefer distance to anything short, but everyone is different. I know that www.runnersworld.com has some great beginning programs and a forum with womens running. If I was first starting thats where I'd go.

Dallas...I have run on a treadmill twice!! I don't have kids and luckily for me this part of Calif has very nice weather most of the time. The worst weather for me is wind and rain...yuk!!...:)...Carole

Elaine,

I did read somewhere that about the hyponatremia in smaller women and finishing the marathon in more than 4 hours. I notice after I'm finished with a long run, my fingers are all puffed up. I am a little concerned about that. I don't read Runner's World magazine. I will try to find a copy of the October issue today.

Oh, yes! Just one more long brutal run before the marathon. You've got your 20 miler this weekend right? Mine isn't until next weekend.

Good luck!!! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/^/9/biggthum.gif
