i have a question, i really didn't know which forum to post this on....does anyone else have problems getting rid of ab fat??? i am toned and skinny everywhere else ( i am actually trying to gain muscle), you can "see" an awesome ab area UNDER my layer of fat, i am beginning to think liposuction is the only answer, i know we have genetic dispostions and we can't be perfect but this is really aggravating!! any advice?? thx:)

I personally have bit of fat "softness" around my middle. I tend to be apple shaped. By no means am I overweight though. I have come to my own personal opinion that it's acceptable for women to have a little round on their bellies. So, if I stay that way, I am cool with it. But, make no mistake, if I had abs like Cathe I would NOT say NO!

Actually, your original question is about lipo. Yes, I had a small amount on my hips done. I was probably a size 0-2 depending on the brand but those lumps of fats didn't go away. Why? Just take one look at my Grandma. Hereditary. Oh well, at least she aged well, so hopefully I got that too!

P.S. It hurt like the dickens!!!

I have gotten quite thin lately but the only place I have much fat is the jelly belly. Well, not much but more than I like as I would love to have ripped abs. :) I have a small frame and tiny wrists and ankles but I am also an apple and my fat distributes to the gut even though I try to will it to my non existant chest and booty. I am also a hard gainer. The best luck I ever had was switching back and forth between intense cardio/moderate to light weights (to burn fat) and moderate cardio/heavy weight (to build muscle) while eating less in the cardio phase and more in the strength phase. I put on more muscle than I ever had and managed to burn fat too. You need a calorie deficit to lose fat and conversely, a calorie surplus to lay down muscle. Eat more and strength train heavily then do more cardio with with a lower (but adequate) calorie intake and you should see results. I weighed in at 125 then and had good muscle mass. My husband actually gave me a "wow" looking at my shoulders then! That was nice. I strength trained three times per week per body part when emphasizing strength and two with the cardio/moderate weight. Good luck!

That's basically what I was doing, Bobbi, & I intend to get back to it. I was getting some good results.

I'm an apple too, worse luck. Only I got the chest too...which I will happily give you, if you really want it! :p

Newer ladies...did you know...Cathe is an apple. Oh yes! She told us herself! So she is, once again, proof that miracles can be wrought.

Ruth, it's probably less complicated to buy a padded bra, he he! Thank you for offering though. I remember reading that! It must be that there are apples and then, there are apples. Being a muscular apple is different from being a not muscular apple. I look more like an asparagus than an apple. It's not what you have but what you do with it! If low rise jeans ever go out of style, I'm gonna cry. A waist band that sits at the hips gives the illusion of a longer torso for short-waisted chicks like me. What is beauty except an illusion? It's one of the reasons I don't read glamour magazines. No exceptionally pretty teenager who's been forced to drop 10 pounds from her already teeny body and air brushed to look prettier still, is gonna tell me I'm too old and shaped funny to be fabulous or that I should be wearing outfits that cost more than my whole wardrobe. And fitness mags are not much better. Cathe is a wonderful role model and her workouts are the best IMHO, but, thank goodness for Catheites in all shapes and size and muscle types. Do you remember when Cathe came back after her Eric was born and gave us CTX? Did I say, wow, she looks better after having a baby than I did before having any? Yes, I did. :D I WAS wowed. It took me 15 months to get back to my pre-preg weight after number 3 and longer still to get back to serious exercise. I was sensible enough to amend my desire to have muscles like Cathe or to even go pound for pound with her. I trained for and ran a marathon instead. And it was good! I like to think having a little extra abdominal fat may have helped. :)

I decided lipo was my answer and it was. No more lumps, even my cellulite lookes better. For how long, not sure, hopefully forever. Am I glad I did it? Yes. Would I recommend it...not necessarily. IMHO, it's a decision a person has to make on their own.

Have you had any babies? I have the same problem but am almost 42 and have had 3 kids. I am very toned but just have a thin layer of fat over my tight abs. It's annoying but I also think of it as being "earned" from having the kids. I guess it's just my mindset. I am not so obessed with having a perfect body so it is OK with me. Maybe you just need to try and change your mindset instead of having surgery.

I have ab fat AND loose skin from my pregnancy. I also have excess fat in my inner and outer thighs that never go away despite all the exercise. These fat areas do get small when I'm very careful with what I put in my mouth, although I can't always eat super-clean. My lifestyle just can't support such kind of eating every day of the year.

Yes, I find this aggravating. But only when I'm standing in front of the mirror in my birthday suit. When I'm fully clothed in my 2's and 4's, hardly anyone knows I have such "energy reserves". I always get comments like, "You're so tiny," or "I'd like your body." And when I hear this, I know the aggravation is really only in my head.:)

I had 2 c-sections and a predisposition to extra fat in the tummy. My mother and aunt are both thin women but carry extra weight there as well. My doctor actually questioned once why I was so "distended" in my stomach. Thanks, doc. My decision to have lipo was due to how uncomfortable I felt to carry that extra weight and how poorly my pants were fitting, even though I was losing weight everywhere else. I am still not perfectly flat and probably won't be since the stitches from my c-sections provide "a curtain" as my doctor explained. I'm OK with that, and I continue to work my abdominals to make the most of the surgery.

hi everyone, thanks for all the input, and bobbi thanks a million for your heavy weight/light cardio and vice versa rotation, i will give it a try,i'm a definate hard gainer, stick straight (except my abs,and it's "rolley" not just pudgy) and thankyou all for letting me know how liposuction worked for you and your decision, the thought is in my head but it's "waaaaay" back there (mostly due to being a MAJOR decision and major money) i have all kinds of ideas now on trying to gain muscle and lose fat although i have tried them all(it seems) but i'll keep trying,i haven't had any children this is just the way the women are on my mom's side of the family(i love them all) but it would be a lot easier if i was trying to lose all over or gain all over! what a dilema!!lol. thanks agian everyone:)

I also had 2 C-sections and have the "pouch" from the incision and excess skin from my belly button down. Above that I have muscle definition and I am at the right BMI for me. It drives me crazy that I can't get rid of the lower ab stuff and also that I have a hard time doing lower ab exercises probably because of the c-sections. Would I have lipo or a tummy tuck? In a heartbeat. But since it's not covered by my insurance, it's unlikely that it will happen. (sigh)

"Don't forget to breathe!"

Cin, I think you'll really enjoy the rotation and should see results. I have had lipo fantasies but I can never decide which of the three kids to part with to afford it. If I parted with my oldest, I could look like Cher. :D I'm not really the type but I think it's the right decision for some women. Three of my sisters have breast augmentations, a B, a C and a D and each one, the tiny one, the one who actually HAD breasts that went south and the muscular buff one with the larger bone structure and the booty, looks great and love it. The B and C are discussing face lifts this year. I have a minimalist approach to my look, little make up, closely shorn hair and this year, I quit dying it too. They think I'm nuts but it works for me! Love the skin you're in however it is you get in it! ;)

Pinky, you have me chucklinng. One thing I've learned is not to mention my dirty little secret unless it's to one of my sisters or my neice who understand the concept of skinny/fat. I should be happy everyone assumes I have washboard abs under my clothes. I'm rolly too and I know it seems bigger to me I get to look down at it. When I turn sideways and suck it in, I look fabulous! :) It's good enough to be slim and toned but I still get that ab envy and I watch abs in the workouts probably more than I should. Is that weird, you think? I should go back to that rotation too. There's still hope for that bicep vein!

Hey Miss "Bag 'o Bones"!

Bobbi, I just have to say again that I'm SO glad you're back in full swing. Man oh man, when you're not around here a lot of the momentum is just sucked right out of our best threads. :) You're a force of nature, a fantastic writer and a gut-busting funny woman. I get the biggest hoot out of your posts and I'm tellin' ya right now (in all fairness and so as to stave off legal action from you), I'm stealing a line from you. I'm gonna ask my children at dinner tonight which one of them they think I ought to auction off to pay for a little nip 'n tuck sumpin' sumpin' for old Mom's upcoming 50th birthday. :) Oy vey to the number 50, I might add.

I love ya girl!!!!!!!

RE: Hey Miss

My sister is 50 today and she's the one who wants a face lift to go with her breast job. Oh, Kathy, don't have a midlife crisis on us. You are perfect just the way you are, honey! Steal any line you like. I wish I had thought of "a little nip 'n tuck sumpin' sumpin"! You are SOOOO good, you're bad. But gut busting? Did you READ the thread, Kathy? Or are you just trolling for lines to steal? If I could bust me gut, I would I be here in this thread? Mmmmmm?

When's the big day? And thank you. I am happy to be hanging out again.
