Shelly, I was just wondering (and this may be a stupid question) but from a fellow canadian, who of course...lives on the Rock...when you go to the States, for the most part, do you drive or fly?
I know that you can get to Boston or NewYork from Hamilton pretty easily b/c we were thinking about doing it once before but didn't bother after but how do you choose to visit the cathites?
It must be so nice to have that option.I love where I live and we are so safe here (thats always the best reason:) ) but to get out of NL is so expensive.I think once you make it to ON or NS you can pretty much get anywhere for pretty cheap as far as flying goes.Im assuming if you fly you leave out of Toronto airport? I use to work for WestJet and I know that that was pretty much the only thing that flew out of Hamilton so I guess your options are limited when it comes to your own airport.
Just curious.
Lori:)

Hi Lori!

Yes, I fly when I visit people. And NO, it's not cheap at all. I'm not sure what you consider cheap, but it cost me almost $500 round trip. I don't consider that cheap.

My flight to Chicago was a very generous gift from my friends. I wouldn't have been able to go otherwise, as it was also nearly $500 round trip.

I'm close to Buffalo airport, so I have that option, but honestly, it's not always that much cheaper, especially with the exchange rate, etc. And not much flies out of Hamilton, you're right about that.

I'm going to Nashville in April to run a marathon with Dani, and either I start saving now, or I drive:)

Thats not what I would consider cheap either by no stretch but it is cheaper then what we fly for.
A while back DH and I flew into the city b/c he went in for work,it would have been a 3 hr drive.Right now there are only 2 airlines that fly in and out of this airport. So the company booked out tickets and it was over $1000 each for a 30 min flight....but that AirCanada for ya.
When I worked with Westjet, of course I got wherever in Canada for ALOT cheaper. It just seems to cost alot to get off of our island.I am not sure what the prices are in the city but its probably still more then you pay.
Good luck training for your marathon, should be fun! And hot I would imagine in Nashville.
Lori:)

Lori, you live on an island??...I don't know much about Canadian geography...excuse me if I sound like a dope! lol:p

Wow! Ontario is huge!! Shelly, is Hamilton closer to New York or Ohio? My nephews go to Toronto alot. They live near Toledo, Ohio.

Can you tell me what Quebec City is like in November. DH and I are thinking about going there for a couple of days next month to celebrate our 21st anniversary. We are desparate for a vacation!!

Michele

Ontario is very large, yes. Hamilton is about 40 minutes from Buffalo, NY.

Quebec City is beautiful whenever you go:) It'll be chilly in November. Bring warm clothes. You'll love it though. It's very European. If you want to splurge, stay at the Fairmont le Chateau Frontenac. Here's a link

Thank you Shelley,

I appreciate the link--that hotel looks fabulous!

DH and I love Canada. It's so beautiful. We never pass up an opportunity to go there whenever possible.

Michele

Michele - when I go to Montreal, I stay at the Chateau Laurier, which is a sister hotel of the Frontenac. It's FABULOUS:) You won't regret spending the money.

I love it too. I spent many years living in Europe and it just reinforced to me how wonderful my country is:D Now if only I could find a way to move all my friends CLOSER!!!

Thanks again Shellers (my friedns call me that sometimes). I've bookmarked both hotels. Have you considered get a job with the Department of Tourism!

Michele

Michele - my friends call me that too:)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... I wouldn't be good working with tourists;) Or any sector of the general public, really.

That's what I thought, Dani. The perfect place for my anniversary/vacation I might add! Just where the queen belongs! }(

Michele
