I resisted buying the entire RWH series for so very long because HiiT has just never been my favorite form of cardio. I purchased digital downloads of the Low Impact workouts from this series a long time ago to have on hand as optional travel cardio workouts and do them on occasion when I want to up my intensity with cardio. (When it comes to scheduling my cardio workouts, I tend to try to always do one steady-state and one HiiT-type workout a week).
So, when Cathe put everything on clearance, I finally bit and purchased the entire RWH series on DVD.
I'm towards the end of doing the original STS series - on week #2 of Meso 3 - the set I got has Plyo Legs for the lower body days, and I found after doing the first Plyo Legs workout that I was feeling like I was going to get bored real fast with that workout, given I'd be repeating very similar iterations of it for four weeks.
So, I looked to my library for some alternatives and realized Lift it Hiit it Legs would be a very good substitute, mixing polymeric moves with strength training.
Today I did this workout for the first time ever, and I am so pleasantly surprised at how much I actually liked this workout. Yes - you heard me, I actually liked a lower body circuit workout with HiiT in it!
What I liked about it:
1. The music is super fun and motivating. The warmup song seemed a bit chaotic - meaning it felt like everyone was having a little bit of a challenge sticking with the beat - but the rest of the music was fantastic.
2. This is not an equipment-heavy workout. All you need are dumbbells and some space to move. That's it. No step, no risers, no barbells, no bands, no discs, no markers.
3. The sequencing feels completely reasonable. While I had to stop short during some of the cardio segments, they didn't appear to be going on forever while I was walking around, huffing and puffing and recovering. It feels like I could very likely work myself up to doing all the reps at some point. I actually even managed to do all sets of the scissor/squat/tuck-jumps at the end. The resistance work between provides a bit of a breather that I appreciated - even though it was still challenging, slowing down my pace helped my nervous system feel like it was getting a chance to compose itself.
4. The 40 minute length also felt attainable. I think I would have started feeling "over it" if I had to do another 20 minutes of the exercises. When Cathe announced we were down to the final exercises, I actually thought, "Really?? Already? Awesome!!" I actually was going to sub in XTrain Cardio Leg Blast as another fill-in for STS Ply Legs through Meso #3, but I enjoyed this so much, I may just stick with this one.
Yay! Happy to feel like I'm part of that previously-confusing crowd of people who gush over HiiT workouts.
Maybe this one is one of the "easier" ones in the series? IDK, but I'm happy it's in my library now.
