Good Morning Gals

I hope you all enjoyed your extra hour of sleep today:)

I got my first kettlebell yesterday:D :) :eek:!!! DH knew I have been researching them and discussing them with my brother, so he surprised me and during our errands yesterday we ended up at Dicks sporting goods!!! I am going to try the tutorial in a few minutes. After reading alot of info both here and at Art of Strength, the video there suggested a 12K for women who lift and are active, so I ended up with the 25# one from Dicks. I am worried it may be to heavy, but I got it with a 20$$ off coupon, and when I bought it I now qualify for another $10.00 coupon, so if its to heavy I will wait for my coupon and get the 20#. I am really excited!! I hope I like it:confused:!! I am leaning toward buying the kettle bell way dvd. The dvd from GoFit that comes with it has a tutorial and a short workout. Right now I am going to try to incorporate it into my routine as my once a week full body workout.

Just finished PP upper body 3x premix. It was not as tough as I was dreading it might be. I'll try to fit in Classical Stretch later today.
We ended up driving home last night and not staying overnight after visiting with ds. It was good to see him! I'll try to e-mail a pic.
Did you girls see the Nov rotation? Looks good and I printed it.

Deanie~ I can feel your excitement over the kettlebells and I am jealous because I want to try it also!:( I may have to wait and just put it on my Christmas list. Keep us posted on how you like it.

Today was Push Pull upper body 3X and kettle bell tutorial with the kettlebell today. Wow was the tutorial hard. I am unsure if I want to do the kettlebell again on my own. I think my form is really bad, I feel it in my lower back. I would really like to look into getting some personal instruction. I don't know if its the weight I picked, or its just so different and I have to get used to it. Also, on the Turkish getup, I'm good on the right side, but can't figure out how to get up and back down on the left side!!!LOL:eek: I definitely need to work on it!! Also, not sure I can do PP3X for 4 weeks, I can see me getting bored with it (but I am going to try;)) Okay,:rolleyes: enough complaining....

Gin::: Thanks for the pictures. A great looking family! What cardio did you do today? Are you running only as your cardio? I agree PP is not too tough. I upped my weights with my plate mates for the third round. (used same weights as Cathe for the 1st 2 rounds)

Marcy::: How was your weekend? Did you dance on Sat? What rotation are you doing?

Public schools are closed today (professional day) but I have school; so my kids are coming with me today. (they like that)

Good Morning Ladies!

Today was my 3 mile run and I'd like to do Class. Stretch this aft since I didn't do it yesterday.:(
I added 3 workout dvds to my NetFlix queue: Paula Abdul's Get up and Dance (go ahead and laugh at that one!!), Tracey's Circuit Zone and Tracey's yoga.
I was finally able to talk to my mother yesterday. She sounded good. She needs to regain her strength before they will release her to go home.

Deanie~I also was wondering about doing PP the entire month!:p I was wondering about the kettlebells with my back issues. Can you exchange your kb for a lighter #? Would that be better?
I would like to do more cardio than just run, if I have time to add it in.

Hi Ladies!

Today I did Tracey's Sculpt Sweatfest. I think this is one of those sleeper workouts that people ignore but I really enjoyed it. The only two drawbacks I have is that she doesn't have a warmup (she suggests doing some light cardio before starting) and not enough tricep work. This is more bodyweight exercises and endurance and functional fitness (she includes lots of balance moves which I like). I didn't do any warmup.

She starts off on the floor doing hamstring pulses, plank work (good) and bicycles (good) - felt in a different way than I normally do.
Then she does some glute exercises (felt these) and rotator cuff exercise (started out with 5# but them went down to 3# for bonus reps)

Then she went on to back exercises (no weight) lying prone in a "T" position, "Y" (hitchhiker thumbs) and "W" (elbows close to chest)

Squats - no weight (then starting from squat position, pulses going up to standing for 3 sets of 8.

Balancing on ball (couldn't do this) does shoulder exercises (one hand goes down while the other goes up) and side lat raises (used 5#)

Then she does walking planks on the ball and tricep dips on the ball and bosu (this is all the tricep work).

Chest Press (toughest exercise) (8#) single arm chest presses, pulses and two-arm chest press

Bicep Curls on Bosu (5#) - lifting R leg, L leg and then both legs

1 arm rows leaning on ball (10#) not as tough as Chest Press but still tough

Standing on bosu and with a medicine ball, squat down and then stand and twist (I think Tony does this in Core Syn but w/o standing on the bosu)

Standing on bosu, dome side up (did these on my step), 1 legged squats - 3 sets of 16 on each leg.

Stretch

I also did 3 chins this morning!:p and a total of 3 chins yesterday.

Since I have to vote tomorrow morning, I might go for a short run (won't have time for a full workout).

Deanie - Congrats on getting a KB! I don't know if you looked already, but there were a couple of threads today (one by nancy324) on what kind of workout KBs actually are and a recommendation for another beginner DVD. I kind of agree with you on STS. I'm in no rush. I took my measurements this morning and nothing really changed except I lost 1/2" in my waist (which isn't really where I need to lose it). I don't think heavy weights are working for me anymore (or at least not right now). I didn't want to cancel STS either because I did see some things that I liked and I think the core workouts will be good but a lot of it seems like the same exercises in many of her other DVDs. I don't care either whether I start in Jan. or March.

I think 25# is too heavy to start with. I'd probably get 12# or 15#. How much $$ was the KB? (Just so I have an idea).

I went to NC2 lessons last night. This was a Beyond the Basics class so he actually made a small routine for us. Small class so I got to dance with the instructor for most of it and then he has us rotate so we don't get used to just one person.

Gin - Your pics from College Weekend looked great! You have a great looking family. I'm glad your mother's getting better. I'm not laughing at Get Up and Dance. I have it and I actually like it. I was actually planning on doing Circuit Zone possibly on Friday. I decided not to order Tracey's yoga based on the clip. I could be wrong but it just didn't look like something I'd like. I would also direct you to nancy's thread on KBs as she has back issues as well. I think Kathryn might have responded to that.

I saw the Nov. rotation. It looks good but I think I'm going to get away from splits for awhile. I just don't get enough cardio in and I don't think I'm getting any positive results from them right now. I also don't feel like doing 200 walking lunges!

Hi again

Marcy~ I think you are right, I need to lower my weight. I got a 12K (1# less) and most women start with 8k which is 17.5#. The tutorial of AOS said women used to working out could start with 12K, but I think I should have gotten the 8k. Anyway, it'll be a few days before I can get back to Dicks to exchange it, but now that I've tried kb, the thrill has gone..... I have found that people on the forum who are into losing weight or need more variety than i do rave about stuff and then others join in, then I feel like I need to jump on the band wagon. Then I don't get the same results (like with the X and now kb's). I was seeing results with the endurance and I think I should have just stayed with that. But with all the hype with seeing results with kb, I got caught up in it! Then with my brother recommending them, then my dh wanting to buy the kb for me, well... I think I just got caught up in it. But for me, not needing to lose weight and just wanting to gain defintion, I think I should just stay on track with what I've been doing...Not sure if any of that makes sense and now I am rambleing....:eek::eek:

I am finding the upper/lower splits and full body workouts are best for me also. I am staying away from the 3 day splits too. With that in mind, are we still doing the Oct. rotation in Dec?

My gofit kb from Dicks was 59.99 (but I had a $20.00 off coupon) I looked around and if you go with gofit, they are all the same price no matter which store you go to.

Gin~ I am thinking of doing PP for 2 weeks and then take it from there- either continue, do SS upper lower for the next 2 weeks or the pyramids for the next 2 weeks. I'm gonna play it by ear. Glad you got to speak to your mom and she sounds good. I don't think I would do kb if you have a bad back unless you can get a real personal instructor to work with you so you KNOW you are doing the moves correctly.
 
Deanie - Are KBs the same price no matter what weight or does the price go up with the weight? I did want to try KBs but between the cost of the KBs and the price of the DVDs, they're just not in my budget right now. I still think I'd like to try them in the future though.

I think I'm going to pass on the October rotation. This month I'm going to use Tracey's Parts series for an upper and lower split. If I get good results, maybe I'll do another similar rotation next month. My rotation for the month is 2 fulls and a circuit plus cardio and the following week will be upper/lower and circuit plus cardio and then repeat weeks 1 and 2.

Marcy~ Sorry, I mean the price of the kb is the same everywhere for the size-- i.e. all 25# kb are 59.99 no matter what store you go to. KB's that are less weight are less money. I am glad you aren't into doing the Oct. rotation in Dec. I would really like to do endurance again next month too, maybe doing 3X total body and 3X cardio. or the pyramids with a total body workout. (leaning towards the pyramids)

Today was 4DS bc and abs. I am doing the following ab mish mosh for this month:
ctx kickbox abs planks and supine planks
4ds kickbox in and outs and split leg 2X (as produced)
side planks - holding 30-60 seconds (today I did 50 seconds - i'm building up to 60;))
I really like it and feel it!!

I think I am going to do MM push pull upper body and MM lower body for the last 2 weeks of the rotation, subbing for PP upper and lower. I am going to keep the full body work the same.

Gin~ did you do lower body 2X or 3X? I am going to do 2X tomorrow.

Marcy~ your rotation sounds good. Hope you enjoy it!

Another day Public school is closed and we are open (had plans for kids to go to friends, but it fell thru, so they are with me today!)

Today was PP lower body 3 sets and Class. Stretch.
I talked to my mother again last night. She sounded good. Hopefully she will be well enough and strong enough to go home at the end of the week. I plan to go to Houston on Sat.

Deanie~I am also going to do something else (don't know yet) next week instead of PP.

Marcy~DWTS last night? I watched part of it. Thought Brooke and Lance were the best and maybe Susan should go, although she has improved.

Good Morning!

I did a premix from CIA 2802: All Latin Cardio Xplosion. Got a lot done in 41 mins., built up just enough of a sweat had abs, a little plank work and nice stretch. This one's a lot of fun. I need to do it more often.

I voted this morning. Got on line at 7:05, was out by 8:45. Actually got to work earlier even though I left half an hour later. I guess because schools are closed and everyone else was waiting in line.

Deanie - Great work on the side planks!:p Your ab mish mosh sounds good.

Gin - Glad to hear your mom is coming home. I watched DWTS. Thought Brooke and Lance were the best. I really liked Lance's rumba. Maurice was pretty good this week. Warren disappointed me a bit. He just didn't look like he was having fun. Susan really should go this week. I don't really feel like she's improving. I liked her tango and she was somewhat good last week although she's still stiff. She looks like she's more interested in getting the poses and steps right than she is in dancing. It's good to see you're really liking CS.

Wednesday

Good Morning

Today was PP lower body 2X. I really think this is an excellent leg workout!! And it has a cardio factor for me. Also, I tried the kb again today. I liked it much better. I still have to wrok on the turkish get up, but I am doing better. I think if I bought the 20# kb it would have been perfect, so I am doing less reps than the dvd and will build up that way. so I am going to continue trying with it. I also have to remind myself to "snap" my hips (hard to remember, but when I do I really feel the difference)

Gin~ Glad your mom is doing better. I hope you enjoy your run today

Marcy ~ Great job with the chins!!! You will definateley be ready for all hte chins/pulls in sTS. Do you have your dance class today or tomorrow? Have fun if its today!

Good Morning!

Today I did LIC cardio. I went to bed at 8:30 last night and still didn't want to get up when the alarm went off at 5am. I think this new med I am taking for headaches is making me TIRED!:p
I'm going to meet the teachers from the pre-school where I used to work for happy hour tonight. I don't drink:p, but it will be so good to see them.

Deanie~You are such a good mom! I'm sure your boys enjoyed being with you at school.
The kb sound tough to get the motion down.
I felt my HR also go up with the leg presses.etc. on PP lower body.

Don't have much time. Did Squeeze this morning. I really love this workout. No dread factor (but that doesn't mean it's not effective).

Deanie - Glad to hear you're giving KBs a second chance. Amy Bento does a modified turkish getup in Slo Mo Challenge. Had Cha Cha lessons last night. Lots of fun. I agree with Gin - you're a great mom!:D

Gin - Is there a different time of day you could take your meds? Are they working?

Okay, since we aren't thrilled with the PP rotation, I am going to change things up.
Next week I am going to do MM upper body and PP lower 2X with a full body workout on Fri.
Then I am going to do the following rotation for 4-6 weeks:
(It got the official thumbs up from Debbie aka Fitness Freak!!:D)

Rotation:::
For the pyramids follow the following routine:

12 reps (light weight)
10 reps (heavy weight)
8 reps (heavier weight)
6 reps (heaviest weight)
12 reps (original light weight)

No abs with PUB or full body workouts

**Abs: CTX kickbox planks and supine planks
4DS kickbox thru to oblique work
Side plank – hold for 1 minute each side

WEEK ONE:
Mon: PUB
Tues: 4DS BC and abs**
Wed: PLB
Thurs: 4DS HIS cardio only
Fri: PH
Sat: HIIT and abs**
Sun: Off

WEEK TWO:
Mon: PUB
Tues: CTX step and intervals and abs**
Wed: PLB
Thurs: 4DS kickbox
Fri: ME
Sat: HIIT and abs**
Sun: Off

WEEK THREE:
Mon: PUB
Tues: DM cardio only and abs**
Wed: PLB
Thurs: CTX 10-10-10
Fri: PH
Sat: HIIT and abs**
Sun: Off

WEEK FOUR:
Mon: PUB
Tues: 4DS bootcamp and abs

I am going to continue with the kettlebell till I start the above rotation on the 17th, and then put the kb aside till Jan. Still not sure when I want to start STS (I'd like us all to start together, so I'm happy to wait till you all are ready) but incase we want to start in Jan, this rotation can take me up till then if I go 6 weeks.

Deanie - I definitely want Squeeze Stronger but I signed up again for the VF Secret Santa Exchange so I'm going to wait and see if I get it.

I hope your rotation works for you. I really have to try HIS again. LIS is no problem. I still had a little difficulty with HIS though,. but I'm laying off the high intensity for a little while.

From threads I've been reading, I think most people start out with a 15# kb. Is there any way you can exchange this one for a lighter one and then get a heavier one later on?

Marcy ~ I definately think 15# would be too light. I am gonig to continue with the 25# (which was better today) since I am only going to try the kb for another week and a half. After Dec. we will see. I have 90 days to return it to Dicks, so I'll see then. I am definately going to incorporate them into my routine at some point.
I totally understand wanting to lay off high impact. LIS is fun too though and I like LIC cardio only!
 
Good Morning!

Just finished PH. This was the very first Cathe workout that I taped from FitTV many years ago.
I met last night with several of my old teacher friends from my former pre-school. They have a new director this year and it sounds as if things are not going very well. I am soooo glad to be where I am. Very thankful!
Haircut and color this aft. I usually color myself, but will change just a bit from her and then do it myself again next time.
