Good Morning Gals

Off to do MM push pull upper body premix and the kb tutorial. I got the 20#kb this weekend.

Gin~ I hope you are having a nice visit with your mom and dad. I hope she is doing better.

Marcy ~ Missed you this weekend. Hope you had a good one.

Have a great day
BBL,

Good Afternoon

Just wanted to update- I used the 20#kb for my tutorial this morning and it was great!! The perfect weight to start with. I am really enjoying them now that I'm able to do all the exercises from the tutorial and I tried a few from the AOS website. :)

I saw the new clip for STS bonus legs....not so thrilled. I am wondering if I will even start in January with STS.

Good Afternoon!

Hope you both had a great weekend. My weekend workotus were:

Sat - East Coast Swing Lesson and Dance
Sun - Yard work

Today I did Christi Taylor's Fit to Dance which I got in a trade. It's a 70 min. long "interval" workout". I guess you could call it a circuit workout because it uses weights but I think it more to be cardio and the weights add an extra intensity. Although there was core work which was pretty good. I heard mixed reviews on this like either you love it or you hate it. I guess I'm in the love category because it was actually just the right kind of workout for me right now. It consists of 13 intervals, 1 and 13 being the warmup and cooldown and stretch. I'll go over briefly the other intervals:

2 - Power scissors, jacks, knee repeaters with arms, hip shaking
3 - Used 5# - step crossbacks with bicep curls, kickbacks, chest press and upright rows and overhead press with kicks
4 - Step - Step side, cross back (mambo 2x) with arms, squat off side, cha cha, squat off back, cha cha
5 - 5# - Squat off step with bicep curls, squat off, cha cha with bicep curls and kickbacks, squat off back with front delt raise
6 - Running mambo, running basics (2 across step), step touch 4x (fast beat) (really hopping side to side), funky arms at the end
7 - Supermans on step, back leg lifts lying prone on step, leg raises and knees bend and straighten, scoop pushups (divebombers) and leg lifts (standing splits)
8 - Grapevines, ponies, walk 3x forward and hop knee, skip in place, 2 pivots
9 - 5# - Squat side with side delt raise, pulse delt raises (3x); turn to diagonal and straighten arm each side and then with heel while bringing elbow back; back lunge with kickback and then bicep curls with back leg lift
10 - (core work) Sitting on step (like you're about to do tricep dips), lift one leg at a time, then lift hips into bridge; tap toes 3x in front (sounds easy but really felt it in my core), tap toe out to side and kick 4x in front alternating legs
11 - Step - stepback lunges with pulses (and arms overhead) and hips, squat side and cha cha
12 - 4 situps while lying on step, lift R leg, L leg, then toe taps (8x), pull arms in, stand up with arms up, come back down on step (repeat many, many times)

Choreography was basic but for some reason, I didn't mind it not being complex. Music was good and Christi is great at cueing although this one didn't need much. My breathing was pretty good today, only didn't do the whole 11th interval.

I'm switching up the order of my workouts this week. Tomorrow will be yoga and cha cha lessons, Wednesday - Circuit Zone with Tracey, Thursday - either Hi/Lo Med Ball with Tracey or Step Appeal with Patrick Groudeau and Friday - either Squeeze or Sculpt Sweatfest; Sat - rest, Sun - Beyond the Basics Cha Cha lessons.

Deanie - That was so nice of your DB to buy you the KB DVD. From what I see on VF, that seems to be the #1 favorite of everyone. Other faves include The Kettlebetll Way Vol. 1 (with Anthony and Beth Chamberlain); Laure Brooks - On the Edge Ultimate Body Sculpt and Conditioning with Kettlebells; any of the Iron Cores (I think you can get these at Target and they're not expensive); any of Lisa Shaffer's DVDs (nofearfitness.com) and Steve Cotter's Extreme Kettlebell Workout. I think 20# will probably be a good weight.

My 34 min. yoga practice was perfect. I actually feel like I still got a full workout in.

I actually liked the Bonus Legs clip but it seemed like it was just a mix of the Kick Max conditioning drills and GSL with a few paper plate exercises thrown in but I would do these most likely instead of the regular Meso 1 Legs but I'll preview before I decide because I know the clips don't show everything.

I'm also in no rush to start. Only did 2 of my 1RMs so far.

Gin - Have a great visit in Houston! Hope your mom continues to get better (and I'm sure she'll appreciate having you there). Hope you enjoy Parts.

Have a great day!

Marcy

Deanie - In addition to what I mentioned above re KBs, someone stated that based on all she's read, Shaffer does the best job of explaining how to perform each move safely and correctly.

Good Morning

Off to do The Gauntlet cardio only and abs in a minute.

Gin~ I hope you had a nice visit with your mom and she is getting better. Its good you live close enough to drive to them when they need you.

Marcy~ Enjoy your yoga and cha cha lessons today. I will look into Shaffer later today. so far I am using the tutorial that came with the kb (go fit) and AOS website has minute videos on form that are really good. Also, I have been lurking on their forum. I should be ready to start really "doing" kb's by Friday 11.21 when I get my Providence dvd. :)

Have a great day gals!!

Good Morning Girlies~

Today I did Tracey's Strictly Upper Body from the Parts dvd and then Classical Stretch. I am wanting to do a stretch workout every day this week. I liked Tracey's workout pretty well.I was a little confused on what size weight to use part of the time, She does some different exercises than what Cathe does. I don't have a Bosu. I guess if you use one, you are using your core more.
Tonight we have our Open House at school for prospective families. Busy Day for me!
As I left my mother yesterday, she was doing a lot better. Compared to when I first got there on Sat. On Sat she had no appetite and zero energy. But, yesterday was a lot better and she hopes to be able to go home next week.

Deanie~You are really getting into the kb. So you can tell us how you like it and what is your favorite. I plan to do the Guantlet tomorrow.

Marcy~Did you watch DWTS last night? It seems like the dancers left are all fairly equal. Maybe Maurice will go? It will probably come down to popularity.

Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies!

Today I did Maui Yoga for Flexibility & Energy. Not a bad practice for 56 mins. It was probably Adv. Beg to Int. level. There was a pose where you're sitting in lotus with your hand wrapped around each other and you try and lift your arms as high as possible that I really liked. No arm balances or inversions.

Deanie - Hope you had a great workout. Did you get the 20# KB?

Gin - Glad you liked Strictly Upper Body. I don't have a bosu either. She does seem to use it a lot and it is good for the core. She does lots of balance challenges in her workouts. Glad to hear your mother is doing a lot better. I'm sure having you there helped her a lot.

I watched DWTS last night. Started to all asleep towards the end. I think I want Cody to go. Maurice is actually starting to look better but Cody's not impressing me although his mambo wasn't bad.

Have a great day!

wacky wednesday

Good Morning

I just finished PP2X and my kb tutorial. I am really diggin' the kettlebell. And yes, I did get the 20# and it is the right weight for me to start with. I finally did the turkish get up correctly, and used the kb for one round. (I have been using a 15# weight)

Gin~ I am glad to hear your mom is doing better. I'm sure your being with her helped:) How'd the open house go?

Marcy~ It sounds like you are really enjoying your yoga! How were the cha cha lessons?

Have a wonderful wednesday!

Good Morning!

Today was 40 min. of The Guantlet cardio. I ran out of time and wasn't able to finish the last segment. I'll try to do ME abs and SM this aft.
I have not been home enough to go to the grocery store or clean the house or return phone calls. I need a weekend!
Someone rear ended me at a stop sign on the way to work Friday so I need to have that repaired. My bumper is just messed up a little.:(
Thank you for letting me vent for a bit!:)

Deanie~Glad you are enjoying the kb!! Open House was fine...tons of families which is good. I didn't get home until 8pm.

Marcy~Cha cha lessons? Sounds like fun! I loved seeing Derick and Julianne dance last night! They are incredible!

have a great day! It's my early day today!

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Today turned out to be a rest day:( I took an allergy pill last night and got up around 3:30, stayed up for almost an hour and then couldn't get up at 5:45 so I just took some well deserved rest and laid in bed for an extra hour.

Deanie - Did you see someone mentioned in OD there's a great article on KBs in this month Fitness Magazine. Too bad I let my subscription expire. Just in case you're interested, you can sign up for Anthony's newsletter at artofstrength.com. Maybe I can get a KB and a DVD with my Xmas bonus (not that I haven't bought enough DVDs this year. Someone had a thread on VF that she bought 45 and I came in close at 39! But there were a few freebies in there and I got 5 cheap from thrift stores.)

Gin - Sorry about your car accident but at least things weren't any worse! I almost got sideswiped twice yesterday by a truck. Either he didn't see me or didn't care but he was determined to get over two lanes of traffic no matter what. That's the only thing that drives me crazy about traffic down here - everyone constantly switching lanes (and sometimes not signaling). I didn't see DWTS yet from last night. I love it when Derek and Julianne dance together. They're fabulous. Since I go dancing Tuesdays, I usually don't get to see the show and results till later in the week so don't tell me who got booted off yet!

Cha cha lessons were great. A little slow in the beginning because there were lots of new people but at least towards the end he shows more advanced moves which were fun.

Have a great day!

Marcy

I almost forgot! My big workout today was doing 2 chins! At least I'm eating pretty clean today though.

Marcy

Good Morning Girls!

Today I did Tracey's Glute Camp and Total Body with Pilates and Yoga from the Parts Series. Glute Camp was a pretty good lower body workout doing some different exercises than Cathe does, except the abs portion was too short and she only did bicycles. I didn't care for Total Body. It was just a hodge podge of 10 min warmup with a ball, 10 min. of pilates and 10 min of yoga.
I am still wanting to do some of my 1 rep max over Thanksgiving week. We have the whole week off!:D Any suggestions on how to do it? Should I work one body part a day? Or do several every other day?

Deanie~Was today cardio? Any ball games this weekend?

Marcy~Hopeyou were able to sleep better last night. Have you watched DWTS yet? I won't tell you who was voted off.;) Do you mean that you have bought 39 workout dvd this year? WOW! Well, I guess if we count STS, I woudld be up there too, huh??;)

Have a good day!

Good Morning

Today was cardio for me, so I did the elliptical - a preprogrammed workout for 20 min. it was good, had hills and really got my heart rate up. A short and tough workout;)

Today is my 14th anniversary :D :) :D I work till noon and DH is off today so we will be having lunch, just the 2 of us, and dinner with the boys!

Gin~ every time I deviate from Cathe, I am always disappointed in the workout. Sorry you didn't enjoy your workout today. For your 1RM, why don't you do it as a workout: chest and back one day, shoulders one day, bi/tri one day and legs one day. Maybe just picking 4-6 exercises from each group... When I did PS, I plugged in alot of info from those exercises and that covered alot of 1RMs too. I think it is very overwhelming to do the 1RMs. Also, when you plug in your info, it is recorded for every time you do the exercise, not just the one time on that particular disc. Does that make sense??? No more sports games for this year :( The boys start again in the spring!

Marcy~ WOW! 39 new dvds! That's alot. Do you like most of them? I hope so:p I hope you are feeling better today and got some sleep last night. I did see the post on OD, but I don't get the magazine. I was wondering, if I do my rotation and sub kb for the tbw, should I cut out a day of cardio? I am doing 1 day upper/ 1 day lower body and 1 full body day which I plan on using the kb. and 3 days cardio- but the cardio is all 20-30 min only. so I guess I will play it by ear...? I'm still not quite sure if the kb is like a weight day or a cardio day, and I haven't gotten my new dvd yet to see the workout. Yea for the 2 chins. I haven't done them in forever!!

Have a great Thursday girlies

Good Morning Girlies!

I actually fit in a small workout last night - 1 pullup; then while watching Biggest Loser, I did some yoga, banged out 20 pushups (palms facing out) and then did the challenge with them -- 1,000 steps.

This morning I did Tracey's Hi/Lo Med Ball. I was a little disappointed because there was only 1 med ball segment and then also there were med ball abs but that was it. I thought the med ball sections were the best part of the workout although the med ball abs could've been a little longer.

The hi/lo was mostly "lo" and consisted of dancy and kickboxing sections. Tracey messed up twice - once she just stood standing there for a few second because she got off beat and the next her counting was off in the med ball abs section. The workout for me just didn't seem to flow very well. Some of the stuff reminded me a little of KPC. There was also a move she called the "golf swing" but it was the move in Core Syn where you take the dbbl or med ball to the side and up. There also was grapevines with jabs. The dancy moves were mambo, cha cha with hands scooping and going out and ponies, grapevines and turns, hamstring repeaters (facing forward and turning). She also did a move where it looked like you were dribbling a basketball and then chasseing to the side.

She did an upper cut section and then added elbow smashes to the side and also did knees to elbow on the side. She also did a jab to the gut move which I felt in my core. For hi impact, there were low jacks, explosive lunges, power scissors and jogging in place (butt kicks).

I liked the cooldown and stretch but it felt wierd standing back up after doing the med ball abs on the ground.

There were 9 combos in all including the med ball abs and then the cooldown and stretch. I don't know if I'm going to keep this one. There were some good parts to it but it wasn't what I expected.

Deanie - Happy Anniversary:p Have a nice lunch with DH! and enjoy your dinner with the boys! I like most of my DVDs, a few I traded, some I still haven't done yet (although I'm really trying to get through all my virgin workouts - will have finished 3 this week). Some I got at the thrift stores (one of them I gave away as an SASE).

I don't think you need to cut out a day of cardio. I could be wrong, but I think of KBs as a total body workout with a cardio effect.

Gin - I'm glad you liked Glute Camp. I didn't think much of the total body workout either; I only did it once. I was also a little disappointed in both of her ab sections on SUB and Glute Camp - one move and only 5 mins. I usually skip Tracey's abs and add on either Cathe's or Mindy's abs.

I think Deanie's suggestion for the 1RMs is good.

The 39 didn't include STS (I guess because I don't have it in my hot little hands yet).

I watched DWTS last night. I figured either Maurice or Cody would've been kicked off. I was actually hoping Cody was going to go but I'm sure he'll probably go next week. I loved the solos with Julianne and Derek and Lacey and Benji. My dance teacher talks about Benji's father Buddy all the time. He says he was the one who created West Coast Swing and a couple of other dances. No wonder they look so great dancing it - they learned from the master himself.

Have a great day!

Marcy

Good Morning Girls!

I went to bed so early last night, so woke up at 4 and am posting BEFORE I run. I also plan to do BB's Level 3 yoga this aft if I have the energy.
Tomorrow I will run with my half marathon training friend. We probably won't go very far. She said she has not been running at all.
I am so ready for a weekend at home!:)

Deanie~Happy Anniversary! How was lunch with DH? And dinner with the kids?
I did like Tracey's weight portion of the dvd, just not the yoga and pilates part.
Thank you for the 1rm advice. Hope I can do it right!

Marcy~Is Tracey's Hi/Lo Med ball a new workout? On the Parts dvd that I rented, the picture looked so distorted! They were all so tall and skinny. I know they are skinny, but more than normal. Does that make sense? Is your Tracey dvd like that on your tv?

Okay...I have to run now, literally!
Have a great day!

Good Morning

Today was PP and kb tutorial, and then I added some kb exercises from the AOS site. I am really enjoying the kb's and am thisclose to canceling my sts order. I like how kb are compound exercises and I really feel empowered by the workout. Its also a great challenge. And right now I just don't see me doing the 3 day splits....ah well... I'm sure I won't cancel but I definitely don't know if/when I will use it:confused:

Gin~ I hope you get your yoga in today. What are you doing for a rotation for the next couple of weeks?

Marcy~ What's on the agenda today? I like your assessment of the kb workout, so I am going to keep my rotation as is. Thanks :)

Getting my hair cut and poss. colored (depending how much $$ it is) and I will be discussing my options. I think I will be coloring at home from now on....

Have a great day ---- TGIF :)
I will try to bbl.....

Good Morning Ladies!

I did Tracey's Circuit Zone today. I went into it thinking I wouldn't like it and would most likely be trading it but I was pleasantly surprised. (Just goes to show you, you can't tell much from the clips). Here's a breakdown:

Kickbox warmup

Circuit 1

Lat Pullovers on bench - 18#
Chest Presses - 18#
Hands on step, jump back and in for 8x and then 4 pushups (4 sets)
Reverse Flies - 10#

Circuit 2

Forward alternating lunges - I didn't use any weights
Boxer Squats (fast beat, emphasis on the down motion)
Rear alternating lunges - again, no weights
Prisoner squats - (horse stance), then plyo jumps and tuck jumps

Circuit 2 Bonus

Power Scissors - 1 min.
jump kicks each leg
front/back lunges - 30 sec. each side
8 tuck jumps

Circuit 3 - Bis & Tris

Hammer curl, traditional curl, side curl, reverse curl (she also did this balancing on one leg) - 10#
Overhead tricep extension (Tracey used KB) - 18#
Wood Chops with med ball (I used DB) - this is the same move as in Core Syn

Circuit 3 Bonus

Tracey uses a medicine ball here - goes overhead with ball and down and then throws ball overhead - I did double lying extension and hammer press (one of the modifiers did this) (1 mins. - really felt it)
Double arm kickbacks, palms facing out kickbacks and palms facing in kickbacks (8#)

Circuit 4 - Abductors and Adductors (all done with band around ankles - she uses Versaloop)

Abductor lifts
Front Degagés
Jacks in horse stance

Circuit 4 Bonus (also with band)

Butt Kicks

Circuit 5

Wide Grip Row (18#)
Lat Raise with flip up/flip down - 8#
Overhead press - done immediately after lat raise, no rest - 8# - really felt these
V Row Up and then palms down on the way down - 1 min.

Circuit 5 Bonus

Jab, Cross, Hook, Upper Cut with weights (5#) (Gin - I think these were in SUB)

Circuit 6

Single Leg Squat
Lunge with Row - used 8# but couldn't used 10#
With 1 leg on step, kick other leg front (really got tired on these) (heel to butt, pelvis forward)

Circuit 7 - Balance Work

This was just like the leg conditioning drills in KM

Circuit 7 - Bonus

Foam Roller Stretch - Didn't like this. Don't have a foam roller so tried using my yoga mat and tried another mat but didn't feel anything. Did my own stretches.

I really burned a lot of fat with this one - BF before workout - 28.6%, after - 25.7%! DH had told me many times that the best I looked was when I was doing circuit workouts so maybe I have to go back to them.

For once in a long while, I felt totally refreshed after my workout. I went to bed by 9:00 last night and got up around 3 without going back to sleep but I feel like I have a lot more energy today.

Deanie - I've also given slight thought to cancelling STS too. I'm also liking more compound exercises lately. I don't think I'll cancel either but I'm sure it will have plenty of tradeability! Glad to hear you're liking KBs! From reading over at VF, people are saying you don't need to do KB workouts for as long as other workouts (maybe because of the compound exercises) and many have time for yoga afterwards. Lots are doing KB and yoga rotations which I think would be up my alley. I see most people really like them and are getting positive results. Enjoy your cut and color! I hope you had a nice anniversary with DH and the kids.

Gin - Yes, Tracey's Hi/Lo Med Ball is a new workout. It was part of her "Challenge" series - Strike Zone, Core Blast, Hi/Lo Med Ball, Steady State Step and Circuit Zone.

I didn't find the picture distorted on my Parts DVD.

Sorry for the long post.

Have a great day and I'll BBL!

Marcy

Good Afternoon

My haircut didn't happen, I ended up just getting the color instead. (which I like) It was too expensive to do it all today, and she didn't want me to do my color myself (she knows how spastic I am...but I will prob. eventually end up doing it on my own anyway) Anyway, she did the color for me today, and since my hair is curly, she said I could get away with going a few more weeks before a cut. The color should last till Jan, so we will take it from there. I am sure I could do the color myself, although I am concerned, but I'm sure she also wants the money;) (dont' we all!!:))

I found this article the other day:
http://www.artofstrength.com/tabid/349/Default.aspx
I just sent it to my brother too. It really is eye opening, and I agree with most of it. I like how he talks about the difference between looking fit and being fit.

One of the women on my other check in who does kb's also felt the same way about cancelling sts and liking the kb and the compound exercises. She ended up cancelling and spending the money on kbs. She said she realized she was only getting sts at this point because she was afraid she would miss out... thats kinda how I feel......

Marcy~ quite a workout you had today!! Sometimes when you don't look forward to something, you enjoy it more (lower expectations I guess) I do think circuits lean you (meaning most, of us ;)) out really well. I just don't always enjoy them so much. Cathe does put out a ton of them. It seems the kb workouts are around 40 min. and I could see where adding some yoga in would be good. It seems being flexable is important in kb'ing-- and I have lost so much from not doing any yoga anymore.

Waves to Gin!

Deanie - I agree, she wants the money! Considering how many women color their hair at home, I'm sure you'll have no problem. And yes, there is a big difference to being fit and looking fit - enter the skinny fat problem. There was a model on DWTS a couple of seasons ago who really had problems because she was so out of shape even though she looked great. The pro gave her a workout to strengthen her up and it was really tough for her.

The money from STS would definitely give me enough $$ for a couple of kettlebells and 1 or 2 workouts with $$ left over. I guess if I see all the clips before it's shipped, I might change my mind.

Waves to Gin!
