I believe that leaving money for the care of your pets is a good idea, but surely a dog can't go through 12 million dollars worth of care in his/her lifetime!

I think this was more a message to her children, to whom she didn't leave any money (if I'm remembering correctly).

I think you are right, Kathryn. It just seemed like such a crazy amount, but she had so much money. How can a dog go through that much $$. I read that she left her grandchildren nothing, for reasons which they know.

This kind of stuff annoys the heck out of me. She could have done a lot of good with that money and taken very good care of her beloved pet. But no, let's just waste it to send a message. There are a lot of good things she could have done with that money; helping to feed the hungry, helping with after school programs, helping buy supplies for schools; programs to help educate people on health and fitness, money to help endangered species...the list is endless.

Violing, I haven't seen the will, but the description I read states that upon the death of Trouble, after paying for the burial of Trouble in the mausoleum, the trust remainder is to be distributed to the "residuary estate". The residuary estate goes to the Helmsley Foundation. I read that the perpetual care for the mausoleum is $3M.

I think the media dropped the ball by focusing on this & neglecting to mention she left something like $20 billion to charity. ;-)
