Lemon Meringue

I am taking my first try at Lemon Meringue Pie and was curious about a few things...

A few recipes say that for the Meringue, use 4 egg whites and 1/2 cup sugar. I found several others, some with a pinch of salt and some with cream of tartar. What recipe do you use for your meringue?

I took the easy way out and bought lemon pie filling. Is that okay?

Any other helpful suggestions are appreciated ;)

I pinch of salt is fine - it just enhances the flavor a bit. Totally optional. The cream of tartar is recommended (although still optional) as it helps the egg whites gain and retain volume, and to make a really pretty pie, you need the volume.

I use cream of tarter, no salt. I also use the already made lemon filling. Just make sure you seal the meringue completely over the lemon. I do a light layer of meringue and then on top of that a thicker layer making pretty designs.

Thanks to you all! I just finished it and it came out rather well, I think! Then again, I haven't yet eaten it ;)

It looks pretty though!
