Hi everyone,

I am wondering if there is a distinct difference in leaner legs vs. strong legs?

I have strong legs already and wonder if i need to purchase leaner legs.

thanks for any input!

Do you mean Pure Strength? If so, I personally do not think it is necessary to purchase leaner legs. Leaner legs is an endurance workout that alternates opposing sides of your legs (ex/ squats to deadlifts to calves and repeat and repeat). PS is more challenging and allows you to use heavier weight and adjust your weight to each particular exercise. In LL the same bb weight is used throughout.

Have to disagree with previous poster.

These two lower body workouts are radically different and I disagree that PS legs is more challenging. In many respects PS legs is easier. It may depend on whether you personally find strength work easier than endurance. I know I do. The previous poster is probably the reverse. Just because Cathe uses a 35 pound barbell throughout Leaner legs does not mean it is easier than the 40 pound bar she uses with the exercises in PS legs.

Leaner Legs is much faster paced, there are virtually no rests at all because Cathe uses the philosophy of constantly working opposing muscle groups so that you rest the quads while working haamstrings, but then she jumps right into the next exercise, there's no stopping. It maintains a great intensity upon the muscles and a 35 pound barbell is all you need. Where Cathe uses single sped reps throughout PS legs, with some of the counts held for more of an endurance feel, it is in Leaner Legs that Cathe first introduces "low ends," i.e. slow reps held at the lower end of the squat or lunge where you never come fully up, thus you never release the strain upon the muscle. The burn builds up fast, and a low end count of 7 can be excrutiating. This is, for me, much more difficult than the sit n' stands exehcise in PS legs, of which I can do several sets with a 50 and 45 pound barbell.

There is no floor work in Leaner Legs, this makes PS legs a good acquisition for your workout library. What makes Leaner Legs a necessary workout, I think, is that it will build your ability to do interval training and cardio plyometric work where you can withstand the burn in the legs of the interval or blast because you have tolerated the burn in endurance weight training. Leaner Legs helps me become way more efficient at Imax 2 and Circuit Max: it helps with my cardio endurance because it helps eliminate rapid onset of lower body fatigue.

I say, it is a workout well worth getting, in addition to PS legs. You will see how different hey are and feel, and you will enjoy good results with both. I know I always do.

Clare, I enjoyed reading your post - very interesting. I've had leaner legs for a while now and still haven't got around to trying it. I feel like going and trying it right now, just to see how it feels!:)

I guess that would depend on what type of workout you may be looking for. Even though every workout is different in it's own way... but I would say LL is the ME for Legs. If you want lots of rep and lots of reps, the LL is for you. I personally get kind of board with this one. I'm not saying it sooo easy, but PS will really give you your run for your money. It's challenging with it's heavy weights and the reps are enough to really fatigue all your leg muscles. It is a good workout, but I would not say it's a necessity if you already have PS Legs.

L&G is a great workout. The music is real fun and the chaptering is phenomenal! Cathe does mostly one, a couple of time just two, sets per exercise. The workout is just less than an hour and you do so many different exercises. The weights used are on the lighter side, but it is not necessarily an endurance workout. You use weights (DB), no weights (like for plyo jumps and scissor jumps) to ankle weights. This workout really moves along. There is also some floor work incorporated.

Hmmmmm, the reps are not endless. You get bored with LL but not with PS legs which is an even longer tape and slower paced?!!? Oh well... I guess boredom thresholds take different forms... LL is Cathe's fastest moving lower body workout. It's quick and dirty (hence it's nickname "Meaner Legs") and we have a definite, subjective, difference of opinion here! The original poster will have to try it and decide for herself! One person's trash is another's diamond and vice versa.....

Do we "need" half of what we have re: Cathe workouts? Probably not: but variety is the spice of life and is what stops us from getting bored and our muscles too.

Clare, I finally tried Leaner Legs yesterday evening - I did it with no extra weight, except for the deadlifts, since it was my first time, and it really burnt!! I don't know how people are using a 30 pound barbell. I'm not very sore today though which I was surprised about. I enjoyed it and will do it more often to see if helps with those IMAX-1 and IMAX-2 intervals!!

Hi Clare,

I did leaner legs 2 days ago and can still feel it im my legs and butt, I stretched out last night with a 30 minute relaxing yoga tape. I feel leaner legs is so very challenging, I love it. I did it with the same weight as on the video. I hope with time I won't get so sore, but I think this is a great leg work out. I hope you all have a good day.

Debbie :) :) :) :) :D :D
