Lazy living

This is me to a T. My mother was a mess--typical symptom of bipolar--& not only did she not keep stuff neat & clean, she'd start home renovation projects, not finish them, & move on to the next & not finish that one either. x( I lived my childhood too embarassed to have my friends over my house, so now I'm completely type A & keep things guest-ready just in case. Right down to my linens, clothes & shoes being color coded, hanging the same way in the closet, etc. Jeez, if I left the house without making my bed perfectly I'd be distracted all day!

Add to that I've been trying to sell it so it is completely clutter free & immaculate. :)

OMG I can so relate to that--even if I'm watching a movie or TV show where there's some kind of dramatic climax in the midst of battle, if someone breaks down a door or a window to save the hero's butt, all I can think of is "who's gonna clean up that mess?" :p

Oh you guys just crack me up Shelley and Laura!

I thought I was bad (well, aside from the mess in my office) ironing my linens, hanging all shirts, pants, jackets on wood hangers (nooooo wirehangers!!!) in one direction and put like-colored t-shirts together, neatly folded to all the same size }(

But you guys beat me BIG TIME!! IKEA has too much clutter in their pictures??? And if the window breaks down, who is gonna clean up the mess??? I almost spit my tea over the keyboard :7 :7 :7

Thanks for making my day, guys!

Laura! Have you seen X3 - The Last Stand? That scene where Jean Grey is at her house and the whole thing is flying apart? All I can think during that scene is "that whole house is going to have to be gutted and redone":p

OMG CAROLA I WANT A NEATRECEIPTS GADGET!!!! www.neatreceipts.com

That looks *so* cool!!! :D :D :D

Our mailbox is actually in our garage, so we keep our paper recycling box out right next to it. I don't let anything come in the house that I don't want to read! That has helped a ton, and it really doesn't feel like it takes any additional time as I sort which mail I want to read (on a good day!).

Nope, haven't seen it. In all honesty it's one of the reasons I had to stop watching action movies. I'm just too darned distracted by all the messy shattered glass & other broken stuff.

I mean, I watched the Sopranos last night & was completely freaking out when Christopher's yard got torn up. I was like OMG, I wonder who his landscaper is?!?!?!?! I should call him b/c I have a great guy! And when he shot Tim Daley all I could think was "crap, that's a really nice house, I hope someone gets some seltzer on that blood before it dries.........." :+

OK, so now I really have to feel honored, because Shelley stayed at my house for 2 nights without an anxiety attack. I'm pretty neat on the surface, but heaven help me with the drawers and closets. I have a DH and a DD who both drop whatever where ever and there it lays until a)I pick it up b)they need it again or c)I reach the end of my rope, throw a huge screaming fit and end up picking it up myself anyway. I spent days cleaning and trying to tidy before Shelley arrived. An hour before they were due, DH sat himself down in a chair and started to sort through the mess of papers he had accumulated on his desk. This amounted to making many smaller piles, encircling the chair. I knew better than to say anything and risk a big fight, so yes, the piles of bills, junk mail, torn off calender pages and school notes sat all weekend and through half of the next week.

So here is a perfect example of what my husband is like. We are painting the kitchen and the new paint makes out "outlet" covers look like crap. So we agree we need new ones, but my husband has decided he can't stand the thought of the old ones just "sitting in a landfill" somewhere. So, I guess they will sit in my landfill, I mean basement. We have outlet covers and things from our first house that we have never touched in 8 years. But you never know...
No wonder no one comes to visit!

By the time I get home, read and post on the forums(tee hee), have a workout...well, putting stuff away takes a back seat. I started doing some things this weekend and will get some cleaning/straightening up done this week since I'm having my mom and grandma over for Mother's Day. I like having people over b/c it gives me a little kick in the pants. I used to obsess over my house and I now realize, this stuff really WILL be here for me to clean or put away tomrrow so I do live "lazy" or choose to enjoy life a little bit more than I used to. Live on Nancy!!!
