Laurie (Endorphin Junkie), you asked about our house......

Calico

Cathlete
Well, we are still at it and will be for awhile yet.sigh. We are currently renovating our house while living in it complete with a new kitchen/bath addition. I have been without a "kitchen" for about 6 months now. My stove/oven is freestanding in my dining room which has yet to be painted only having mudded, taped and sanded walls in it and a litter box amongst other junk. My "kitchen" is in my laundry room and my kitchen sink is my utility sink and my drying rack for dishes in on top of my dryer.:+

My microwave sits on top of my chest freezer so you have to move the microwave onto the dog crate when you want to get into the freezer, the fridge also is in that room. Life is sooo wonderful,LOL!! We eat in the family room on our laps because while the table in set up in the "would be new kitchen" that room is currently serving as our master bedroom because we had to gut our room upstairs to put new windows in so we can get new siding put up. So we had to move downstairs into the "new kitchen" which again has no paint only sanded mudded and taped drywall walls.

My dh is off work this week and we are working on getting our room finished so we can move back in and then paint the kitchen. We were drywalling the ceiling over the lath yesterday so we wouldn't have to take down the lath and have all the blown in insulation fall on our heads and have that mess to clean up. We did manage to get it all up, my dh also framed in a closet for our room since this is a very old house that had no closets when we bought it.

We have basically been doing something to this house since we moved in this is just the biggest project to date. Dh wants to sell the house after this and walk away, he is sooo tired of working on the house. Can you blame him?;(

We are trying to focus on one room this week and finish it so we don't get bogged down with all the "other" things that have to be done. I even have a hole going down through the middle of my house where I and the boys took down the interior chimney ourselves from attic to right below the first floor floor into the basement. So technically there isn't a room in the house that hasn't been touched with the exception being my oldest son's room and the upstairs bathroom since we did those about 3 years ago.:7

We have replaced every window in the house, all having to be done before the new siding goes in, we also have a new front door and will have to have new carpet, hardwood floors, new railing for the steps and drywall throughout the whole house.

We are very busy people.

Thanks for asking!:7

RE: Laurie (Endorphin Junkie), you asked about our hous...

Wow Annette, I'm tired just reading about your extensive reno! That is so much work! God bless you it must be so hard to feed a family of 5 with no kitchen per se, I'd have a hard time being good natured about that but I suppose if you keep reminding yourself of the end result you can endure.:) I have never done renovations as extensive as you have described but years ago we bought a house and immediately gutted the kitchen, our project only took about 4 months and it was extremely inconvenient, annoying and frustrating at times. All of that disappeared immediately upon completion. We lived there for 5 years after and whenever I walked into the kitchen I experienced a wonderful sense of satisfaction that this beautiful room was the work of our hands. We didn't do drywall work then but did a bunch this spring in our new house, I had no idea what living with drywall dust everywhere was like bleccchhhhh!x( x( I feel for you and pray that the rest of your project goes smoothly and doesn't tax your family too much. Maybe your husband will be so pleased with the end results that he'll reconsider selling, you must all get very close to tether's end at times with all of this going on in addition to the ebb and flow of a family's day to day.
Good for you for keeping up with your workouts, as you well know they are an irreplaceable stress buster, especially the kickboxing on particularly trying days }( . Thanks for posting, will you take the day off tomorrow or will you labour on labour day?:7

Take Care
Laurie:)

RE: Laurie (Endorphin Junkie), you asked about our hous...

No, we will be working on the house tomorrow too. With gas prices soaring we can't really afford to go anywhere anyway. I will, however, get a workout in, my dh said that I could at least do that before I help him. And with all the hoopla of the renovation, remember that I homeschool my boys too!! So I have to keep that straight too and not misplace things. Most of our clutter and books and some furniture are in a storage unit so it can be out of the way while we do this.

Have a great Labor Day!:)
