LASIK

Hi everyone, anbody have this done? I am scheduled to have it done Thursday but after reading and signing all the papers about what could go wrong I am a little scared. Those of you who had it done, would you do it again, is it worth it, what made you decide to go ahead with it? My SO says he wouldn't do it but if I'm willing to roll the dice he hope it works out for me. Geesh. I'd love to know what you think. Thanks.

I had it done this past summer and love it. The procedure itself is a little freaky but is over very quickly. After that I had a lot of tearing and a headache. After a god nap I was watching TV that night with no glasses. A great feeling. For me it was very worth it. I have had no problems at all (and I am usually the person where if it can go wrong it will). Remember for any procedure they make you sign all of those papers to cover themselves leagally. Good luck!

I had it done 10 years ago. I still have 20/20 vision and would do it again in a heartbeat! It is a weird feeling when the surgery is happening, but you will be able to see clearly right away!

Good luck! The valium (well...that is what they gave me!)really helps alleviate any fears you have during the surgery!!!

That's what I was trying to tell my SO, but it does still make it scary. Thank you Penl for your reply.

Yep, they will be giving me a valium which will be much need to calm my nerves, lol.

I had it done about 6 1/2 yrs ago and would do it again in a heartbeat. My sister had it done as well and has been very happy. I think that any complications or problems are rare. It will be over quickly, and you will then get to enjoy better vision! How cool is that? Good luck!

I had it done 3 or 4 years ago and it's been wonderful. I see better now than I did with glasses or contacts. And, I can see at night! I never realized how poor my night vision was before. I definitely recommend it. It was worth the price.

Had it 5 years ago - 20/15 in the left, 20/20 in the right...I had WAY more complications with contacts, this was a miracle for me!

One of the best decisions I have ever made in my life :). And I don't say that lightly, given the fact that it was a LOT of money! But it was worth every penny and I'm soooo happy I did it. I can't possibly describe the feeling of waking up in the morning and being able to read the numbers on my alarm clock--or knowing that when I travel, I don't have to bother with packing contacts, contact lens solution, or fumble with glasses and clean them when they fog up or get smeared...

You get the idea, I'm sure LOL.

That said, I did do my research and really sought out the best doctor in my area. I was lucky that my doctor was one of the pioneers of this surgery, and so I knew I would be in good hands. Trust your doctor and follow the instructions for recovery, and you will be fine :).

Good luck!!!

I had it done 10 months ago - and like everyone else here has said - was a very easy process and and great decision. My vision was not that bad to begin with 20/80 and 20/100 with an astigmatism - I work toric lenses. Now they are 20/20 and 20/15 - awesome... and like Hi-Definition - everything is so crisp and clear...

Good Luck and enjoy... :)

My husband had it done about 6 years ago, and has been very happy with it. He had a few days of mild discomfort, which was relieved by using eyedrops, and never any problems after that. I am considering getting it done myself.

(I think Cathe's had LASIK done also.)

Amy's right. I had it done in 2002, paid a TON of money that I didn't have at the time - and would do it again in an instant. It's THAT good!

Love it! Had it done 9+ years ago and never regretted it. Some discomfort after, dry eyes for about 6+ months (used a lot of drops) and no problems since. Good luck!

Adina - I've been looking into having this done too. I know a ton of people who have (my last company would pay 1/2 so almost everyone had it done) and they all rave about it. For me it is just a matter of saving up for it and then getting over the freaked out feeling of having someone mess with my eyes. I wouldn't say it is as risky as your SO is making it sound. From what I've heard complications are very rare. If you do go through with it, let us know how it turns out for you!

Wow, thanks everyone for relping. I feel much better about it. My vision is pretty bad to begin with, my persciption is something like -6 and my eyes have been too dry for contacts so I have been stuck with my very thick glasses, yuck. I can't wait to be rid of them. Thanks.

Count me another happy Lasik customer! I had it about 5 years ago and wonder why I waited so long.

Would do it again in a heartbeat!

Thanks Andrea. My SO just made the comment, "you only see the good reports because the blind people can't type." x( Anyway I do feel much better about it and am excited to get it done. Thanks guys.:)

Adina -

Make sure you get the tear duct plugs. They can put in these temporary disolving plugs in your bottom tear ducks that help incredibly for the dryness issues. I think it was like $70 more to get them and worth it to help any dry eye issues. You can even get permanent ones in if you have always had dry eye problems.

I didn't have one minute of trouble after my LASIK surgery in 2004. Best thing I've ever done. I didn't read the other responses above so forgive me if I'm repeating... but make sure you have a reputable doctor with lots of experience and follow your postop instructions to the letter. My eyesight has been stable since the surgery now almost four years out.

I had it done 5 years ago and it's the best thing ever; especially with all of the sports I play! I had the tear duct plugs put in. It was cool to be able to see the road signs on the way home but I recommend just relaxing the first night and resting your eyes.
