laser hair removal

Has any one done this? I would love to do this for my bikini area and never have to shave and have those awful bumps again. I know its pricey (I had a consult today, I went to the dermatologist for something else but her partner does laser hair removal so I got a price and asked some questions) but when I get to my goal weight and can wear a bathing suit. My main concern was since I have a history of skin cancer I was worried but they said it does not cause cancer because cancer is caused by uv rays and the laser for hair removal does not have any uv or dangerous rays in it. I thought it would be a nice reward. Waxing and shaving cause those awful bumps for me.

I've had laser hair removal done on my upper lip. I got it done for free since my mom works for a dermatologist. I've gone 3x's. Each session, she shaves the area then applies a gel. After we put on goggles, she starts the procedure. Let me tell you, it hurt!!! My eyes were tearing and I'd jump every time she did it. It sort of feels like a bee sting/rubber band snap. My mom gave me some numbing medicine to put on and the woman used a different laser on the 3rd session so the pain wasn't so bad. The sessions were quick. You go back once you see some hair grow back in- every 1-3mos until it stops.

I'm not sure if the bikini area is done differently. I'm sure they'll give you numbing creme. It'd love to do it but it sounds more involved than just the upper lip.

I've heard nothing about the laser being harmful.

It's painful? Wow. And you have to wait for hair to grow back? Thanks for sharing this. That's what I HATE about waxing. With pale skin and black hair, I can't stand to walk around with any hair showing! I always thought the price was the only hurdle with lasering. I've often dreamed of it, but never looked into it for some reason. Maybe I should wait until the procedure is further perfected?

I've had laser hair removal on my bikini area. It does HURT! They usually give you numbing creme which helps but if you mis a spot -oooh the pain. It takes about 1 hour for the creme to really sink in and numb the area. I am a brunette and have had about 5 treatments so far. The last one was last year because I just don't like the pain, but it does work. I didn't pay very much either, but I live near a huge city where there is alot of competition among laser centers. I'd say I would need 3 or 4 more sessions since the hair down there is so course and dark. I would recommend it even though it hurts because I just hate shaving that area. If you are only getting the outer bikini done you shouldn't pay more than $75 in my opinion.

As for my upper lip laser hair removal, you do have to let the hair come back. But it's not bad because the hair is usually finer the more sessions you have. Once you can see the hair, you go in for a session. It doesn't come in darker or anything. I'm also someone with dark hair and I HATE eyebrow waxing- it just never ends :) But upper lip waxing is so painful in my opinion so I chose that area to be lasered off.
