"Knit and Fit" Monday and Tuesday

Cathlete
Welcome to the “Knit and Fit” Check in and Challenge. All are welcome; whether you already are a “knitster” or would like to learn.

First, something about myself. Besides my family and job, Cathe and knitting are my two favorite things. I have been doing Cathe for about 10 years. I learned to knit when I was 8 years old. That means that I have been knitting for 47 years. “Scary” I have been exploring “knitting” on the Internet and would like to start a “knitting group” in the Cathe Forum.

I presently have too many projects on the needles:

1. Socks (I have been learning how to use two circular needles and make two socks at once).
2. A Noro Cardigan
3. A Noro Coat from Knitters Magazine
4. A cabled pullover
5. A Hot Tomato Sweater through Interweave Knits
6. A ribbed pullover

My “Challenge” is to finish all these projects before I join another “KAL” (Knit A-Long).

Here is my question of the day: How do you know you knit too much?

My answer: Last weekend when I was looking for a purse take to work, one of the primary requirements was I could fit my knitting into it.

Regards to all,

Rhonda

RE:

Hello Rhonda,
I have been doing Cathe for about 2 years and knitting for about 18 (did it from the late 80s - 90s, then took an eight break, then picked it back up again over the last 2.5 years - voraciously making up for lost time). On the needles, I currently have:

one baby sweater
one summer tank top
one summer lace cardigan (will not be finished in time
to wear this summer - maybe September)

I also have two winter sweaters that need to be seamed up for wearing (one from Hot Knits, by Melissa Leapman; the other was the Fall 2006 cover project from Interweave Knits - the fair isle)

I wish there was more time in the day (or that I had more free time) for knitting and Cathe, but I use my weekends for these two items, almost exclusively.

Hi Rhonda!

Glad you decided to start the check-in.

I've only been doing Cathe since Nov. of 2005. I was a runner for 20 years. Got bursitis in my hip. Switched to cycling. Also did the Firm forever. LOVE Cathe. LOVE cycling. LOVE knitting but am known now as the Quitter Knitter since I quit after I learned but picked it back up after my friend moved back to Cheyenne from Yellowstone.

Projects on the needles:

1. Afghan with various sample squares (started after knitting class ended) - maybe I'll finish it someday...
2. Dog sweater

I hate having ufo's - it makes me crazy! Two or three at a time is all I can stand.

How about this question for me - how do you know you knit too little? You forget how to cast on! Okay, that's not me, but some of the gals who come to our knitting group have had to relearn casting on a few times because they only attend every 6 months or so. :)

I've been knitting since January-so about 7 months. I've only made 3 dish cloths so far. I only know how to go back and forth right now :)

I don't have much time at home to knit so I usually knit in the car. I always wanted to learn and I am glad I did.

So, I am now on my 4th dish cloth. One of these days I will learn to do something else.

I will need to get some wooden needles so I can bring them on the plane when I go on the RT (I checked and it looks like security could take the metal ones).

Joanne

P.S. I love the name of the "check in"!

Hello, all!

I taught myself to knit a couple of years ago, but my mother attempted to teach my when I was younger, so it was more of a refresher for me when I "learned".

I have doing Cathe faithfully for almost 18 months and LOVE it! I have also started doing some freestyle heavy weights and HIIT on my elliptical trainer.

I have a lot of things on my needles, I may actually miss a couple of them, there are so many!
1. Lace shawl
2. a couple pair of socks
3. a couple of sweaters (one for me and one for DH....we live in Florida, though!)
4. a couple of baby caps for preemies (charity)
5. a couple of other shawls

Like I said, I have probably forgotten some of the stuff that I have started because I love to start new projects!

Joanne- I LOVE wooden needles. My favorites, though, hands down are Addi Turbos!!!

RE:

Amy,
I'm very impressed with your shawls. Although I have become quite good at sweaters, socks, scarves, etc. I have yet to tackle a shawl. I have one pattern and yarn in my stash for a large, lacy, Victorian shawl, but have not gotten up the gumption to tackle it. It will require two sets of circulars, and I'm a little afraid of it. One of these days!

I love the name of the check-in too! :)

About me, I first learned to knit and crochet when I was in Girl Scouts. We made a couple of projects then. I made an afghan that I gave to my sister who to this day uses that afghan in her home. I loved both knit and crochet but I stopped doing any craft type projects for a long time.

Something possessed me about 3 years ago to buy some yarn, crochet hooks and knitting needles. I think I just decided that I wanted another interest. I always have several projects going on although I have also picked up needlepoint and cross stitch.

Right now I am doing a needlepoint pillow and knitting a short sleeve sweater using Moda Dea's Eden Yarn. That yarn is so soft!! I would love to learn how to make socks.

As far as fitness, I found Cathe through VF 6 or 7 years ago and have been a fan ever since. She is my favorite instructor for strength training, bar none.

I started a P90x rotation last week but injured my neck and am waiting until that injury heals to get back on it. In the meantime, I'm doing some lower intensity workouts.

Thank Suz for suggesting the name of our check in. I want to start a knitting group in the High School where I teach. Any suggestions?

Rhonda
