Knee pain

I am always getting knee pain when I run. Does anyone have a way to make it more comfortable to run?

Where are you running? Indoors or out doors? What type of shoe do you use? Are you warmed up before you go?

My 2 1/2 cents (inflationary rates :p):

Stop running until you figure out what the problem is.

Make sure to strengthen and stretch all the muscles around the knee (stretch expecially the hamstrings and hip flexor). A DVD like Gaiam's "Strong Knee" could help here.

Go to a good sports equipment store where they will do a gait analysis (by having you walk on a treadmill) and suggest shoes (and possible inserts) that may work for you.

Take up speed walking instead.

It could also be a tight IT Band. If I dont foam roll my IT Band before I run, it gets tight and causes pain in my knee...

Search through posts and threads over the last week or so which have dealt with "leaning out lower body" etc because I detailed in those the kinds of lower body workouts I now do that prevent and treat patellofemoral syndrome, i.e., runner's knee.

You need to change the way you work the lower body so you can continue to run without pain. It is possible. You may need physical therapy to help teach you specific exercises you need as a runner to stay injury free.

Also, go to runnersworld.com and start reading up on patellofemoral syndrome, the most common of the runner's knee ailments. This website also has video archives of excellent exercises, including core training and balance exercises and one legged exercises, which can treat the problem and prevent it recurring.

I run outdoors and I have asics. But before these I was using champions or something i can't remember. I don't think it has to do with the shoes though. I only get knee pain when working my lower body doing the hamstring rollins so I normally just modify those. And its only in my left knee.

Thanks for all your in put
