KM - blasts first or combos?

For all you nutrition experts out there... do you think there's a difference, bodywise, in doing the blasts first in KM, vs. the combos first. I really prefer doing the blasts first, just like in KPC. But I'm wondering if there's any advantage, from a burning energy standpoint, to doing the blasts first.

From the readings I have done, it is better for your body to do the blasts first then the kicking combos. You will actually burn more fat this way--high intensity then low intensity.

How do you like doing the blasts first?? Is it hard on your body at all. Let me know. Thanks,

Kristen

I like to do the blasts first, because I feel like the cardio factor extends well into the combos. And, no, it isn't any harder on my body to do them first. Glad to hear that I'm burning more fat this way!

Actually the 'fat burning' zone is a myth. It is true that the **percentage** of fat burned is higher at lower intensities but the total amount of fat burned at lower intensities is less. Here's an example that I used on another forum: 50% of a dollar is .50 cents (or .50 grams of fat). 20% of 5 dollars is one dollar (or 1 gram of fat). The percentage of the latter is less, but the total amount is more. This is where the myth originated. People saw that the percentage of fat used as fuel was greater at a lower intensity. They didn't take into account the overall fat burned in higher intensities is **more** than at lower intensities, even though the percentage is less. In fact, a person uses the most fat as fuel while at rest, and we would all agree that being at rest is not an efficient way to burn calories. So it makes more sense to think of burning **calories** and not fat while working out. The more calories you burn working out, the more fat you use as fuel. Period.
Here's some websites to check out about that:

In terms of which intensity to do first, I would recommend doing whatever is comfortable for you. Doing one before the other will not result in more or less fat burned. You need to burn a lot of calories to burn a lot of fat. I think it has become my mission to dispel that myth.:)

Hope that help!
Carolyn:)

I like to do the blasts first, too. I have more energy in the beginning. Otherwise by the time I get to 7 or 8 I am ready to be done. If I do the blasts 1st, its an easier workout (cheating, I know). the 1st kickbox drill is fairly easy and works as an active recovery for me, then I am ready to put my all into the rest. Plus, the last kickbox combo tires out my legs with all the side kicks and makes the 1st blast more difficult. (again, cheating!!)
