Kimberly Spreen Absolute Kickboxing question?

Do you need all three body bars that they say or will one do? And any weight recommendation?

Thanks in advance,
Laura;-)

Laura,
Kimberly says not to go heavier than 9#. If you use excellent form, even 5# will give you a good workout. 1 pound is like 12# to your shoulders, which gets worked a lot in the combat drills. Just my thoughts.:) BTW, this is one of my most favorite workouts. ;-)

I love this workout! It is alot of fun. I always do the mixed version where you do one segment cardio the other combat drills. it seems more fun to me to do it that way! 9 lbs is quite enough weight.

Thanks Jen and Wanda,

I went ahead and ordered it with the 9lb weight. Also ordered Amy Bento' new step and hi/lo and kickboxing dvds. Also one by Rob Glick and step boxing two by Kelly Coffee-Meyer. My credit card is yelling, "Ouch!"
Laura:eek:

Hi,
I live in India so getting hold of a body bar is going to be really hard.I was just wondering if the workout could be done without the body bar and used dumbells or plates instead!
I have heard such good reviews about this one and do really want to get this one but just wanted to know if you could do it without the body bar!
Thanks so much.
Regards,
Roshni

I just orderd this as well! I guess I will try it with the bar only from the Troy Lite set. That is 5 lbs. Will it be too long?

Deb

I tried Absolute Kickboxing first with my unloaded, 12 pound barbell, but it was both too heavy and too long. (My barbell must be about five feet long). The length was actually more of an issue than the weight (and I'm pretty tall at 5'11"). I have since picked up a nine pound body bar and it works great. I wouldn't want to go any heavier as I think it would be tough on your back during the drills.

Roshni, because of the striking-type combative moves, dumbells would be too hard on your shoulders, not to mention awkward. I just use my barbell without the plates and it works just fine. As another person mentioned, a broom handle will also work. HTH :)

I love this workout. I use a 9# body bar and it seems just about right to me. I know anything heavier than that would be too much (at least for me).

I think you can get a good workout with substitutions, altho it isn't quite the same. I've used a baseball bat, a stretch band held taunt, a mop handle. You get the bending, stretching motion without the extra weight. Deb

If you are using something unweighted, like a broomstick handle, you could wear wristweights (or ankleweights to your wrists). You still get the same benefits of the motions and a little bit more intensity.

Thanks Wanda!
I think I shall get the DVD and use a broomstick or barbell
Though a body bar is on my wishlist ..now I have an excuse to get one the next time I travel abroad!!!
Best Regards,
Roshni
