kids & research on the Internet

My son's 4th grade class is doing a lot of research projects and of course, the easiest place to look is the Internet. Does anyone know of sites that are geared towards kids? For instance, this week he needs to get information on Venezeula and everything that we've found is written on an adult level. While I don't mind helping him, he'd probably find it more interesting to do these things on his own.

TIA!

Just a few ideas: refdesk.com/kids
nationalgeographickids.com
atozkidstuff.com

Your local library should have a website that you can pull up links through. The A to Z Kid Stuff web site is very easy to use. Good luck. :7

My DS is a 4th grader and has been using the internet for research for a couple years. I like encarta.msn.com - it's got plenty of detail if you want to dig deeper in, but is pretty satisfactory for the 3rd-4th grade level as is.

Your first stop should be your public library and speaking with the youth services librarian who will have many sources to direct you to. Your library may provide quality databases (unlike the internet that is often junk filled) that you may be able to access from home.
