Kickmax Question

Hi Cathe. This is Brad. Not sure if you remember me, but I've been a longtime fan and love your work. I think this new series is outstanding. It will keep me busy for a very long time. Anyway, my question is are the hand wraps necessary in the first section of Kickmax? I didn't use them in KPC and was fine, so I'm just wondering.

Hey Brad,
I am obviously not Cathe but I might be able to shed some light on the hand wraps. I used to kick box in a gym set up only for kick boxers and we wrapped our hands to protect the small bones in the hands when you have your gloves on and our hitting the hit pads or heavy bags. You don't need them if you aren't going to actually hit anything.

They do look cool though.....

Try going to search and hand wraps. You can get some of the comments on the wraps when used on KPC.

I'm not Cathe either ;-) , but I've been kickboxing for about 8 years. I used to wear hand wraps and found that they helped absorb sweat. Otherwise, my palms would get yuckily damp by the end of a workout (I never knew how much hands could sweat!). Now I usually use 1# weighted gloves that both absorb sweat and add some resistance.

Cathe did mention when a question about handwraps came up previously, that they helped her remember to keep her wrists straight and keep proper alignment.

They are definitely optional (but do look cool---I concur!).

Cathe actually mentioned somewhere...either in the forums or the description of Kickmax that the wraps were not necessary and were inmcluded for the look.

Kathryn - I love the idea of the hand weights. Do you remember where you got yours?

I got mine at target. I also got a pair at a Reebok factory outlet (I prefer Ironwear gloves: the weight is well distributed, and doesn't shift. Some other gloves shift because they are filled with sand, or they are too rough on my hands because the weight in them is very stiff--like a pair I tried from Walmart). I also have a 2# and 3# pair that I use for rebounding and for some weight/cardio moves (too heavy for kickboxing, IMO). I found those online by searching "Ironwear gloves".
