KickMax Blasts are killing me...

Tamster

Does anyone else have trouble with these? I loathe KickMax because of them and they keep turning up in the HCXtreme workouts.

Nothing else in a Cathe workout has been so hard for me. They get me each and every time.

Any advice on how to get through these? I have yet to do them from start to finish.

I had to either modify these at first, take longer breaks than Cathe and Crew, or at least march while they were doing jacks, especially before a really tough interval like plie jacks, hammer punch lunge kicks, or power lunges. Just keep plugging away. Practice will make you stronger and you will be able to get through them. It will still hurt a little}( (why else are we doing Cathe anyway?). But you will get through them. Oh, and you may want to do them immediately after the warm-up and then do the combos. You are less tired and you aren't dreading them.

That is exactly why I LOVE them!!! I find them so challenging and I can't figure out why they are so much harder then the Imax blasts are. Anyway, the more you do them the more doable they become. Just keep them in your rotation on a regular basis and you won't believe the progress you will make!!! This is my favorite section of KM!

You should try the Bootcamp challenge. It does the warm up, then the blasts, then the combos. Somehow it's really hard, but much more fun.:)

When I did KM the first time, I had DOMS in my upper body so bad!!! I didn't realize I was working that hard.

Okay...thanks all..I will keep at them. Practice makes perfect, eh? I guess I have to condition my body more to withstand these punishing blasts.

Shelley - I tried the Bootcamp challenge thinking that I would have more energy at the beginning of the workout and find them easier to do. WRONG!!! I barely had anything left in me to finish the workout.

I'm a KickMax wimp.

You know, I thought it was interesting that Cathe set up the KM workout like that - with the combos first, then the blasts. KPC is the opposite.... it took me a long time to get to the combos, lol. I wonder if she did that so we'd be more focused on form in the beginning of the workout than when we were lying on the couch at the end??? :) :)

Cheers,
Marie

PS: I haven't gotten all the way through these blasts, either... and it's not even that it's so HARD as it is my heart is absolutely racing and I am gasping for breath! Endurance, thy name is Cathe!

I just did HCXtreme on Friday, with the Kickmax, & my DH walked in & was fascinated by her stamina on the Plie Squats. I tried my best to plie squat the most perfect plie's so he could look at me and be utterly impressed, but no, he never even glanced my way.:-(

Me, too. I unloaded KM pretty quickly. And HCE as well.

Hi Tammy! You need to work up to these gradually. I don't want you to injure yourself. This is tough to get through especially if your body isn't used to doing plyometrics in the first place. I would suggest you only try to do as many as YOU can. If that means only doing 2 blasts so be it. That means your finished. If you have Low Max, I would suggest you do half of this workout & then cool down & stretch. Each week, however, I would want you to try one more interval but only do as many as YOU can & follow up w/Low Max or something else. Each week try to challenge yourself. Good luck! HTH, Kathy:D

I find these blasts too hard on my joints. I don't like KickMax as a whole either. The less intense parts are not challenging to me aerobically, so I feel like I haven't really worked hard enough, and then the blasts are really bad for my knees. Maybe the leg routines are challenging, but also sort of boring.

plylometrics are extremely hard for me too. I feel like I am in pretty good condition and my leg muscles feel hard as rocks but I still fatigue so quickly doing these. I've been reading Ready, Set, Go and there was an interesting point in there about pylometrics training a different of muscle fiber, the fast type IIa muscles. They must be trained. I think mine are asleep.

ETA - Marla, my DH walked in on me when I was dying through IMAX2 last week. He just shook his head and said I was crazy and something about just yelling if I needed 911.

Marla, my hubby doesn't look at me when I work out either. At least not in a way that makes me think he's impressed. This morning I did the KM combos, and while I was punching he made these sound effects. Like the rest of the noise pollution of my household, I just tuned it out. We've been married several years now, we're really more like roommates. I don't know if that's good or bad.

LOL! I don't know why I bother to impress him. I have always been more fit than he. He was just so in awe of Cathe.

Marla

Pinky-
LOL at the thought of my husband making sound effects as I do these workouts. Seriously, sitting with my laptop on my lap, deep belly laughing. THANK YOU for that- first laugh I've had all day.
I think my husband knows if he were to try to make sound effects as I'm working out, he'd never be allowed in the room again. I must have trained him well!
When I exercise in the morning, he has to walk past me to get out the door. He has learned some of the videos, so he can get past and sometimes sneak in a kiss goodbye, without getting kicked, punched, or crunched!
Pinky, thanks again for the laugh!

LOL on this one too! I love you guys.
My husband watched me doing the high step training advanced last week, saw what Cathe was doing, saw me on the floor attempting same, and told me Cathe is psychotic.
I appreciated him saying it was her, not me. :)

LOL!!! You guys are cracking me up! My DH, as well as the rest of the house, knows better then to disturb me when I am exercising.

I am glad to see I am not the only one who has a hard time with these blasts. All that said and done, my competitive side isn't ready to let it go just yet and I am determined to accomplish this goal.
