kickboxing choreography

Hi Cathe,

I have been teaching cardio kickboxing 2 to 3 times a week and I am seriously running out of ideas for choreography. I'm anxiously awaiting the dvds. May I ask where you discover your kickboxing moves? I'm a stay at home mom and I only teach those few classes a week, so it is not cost effective for me to go to IDEA and things like that. I try to go to other classes to get ideas and that works well, but I was wondering if you might have any other ideas or suggestions. Thanks so much!

Kristie, I'm obviously not Cathe, but may I suggest the Turnstep website for group fitness instructors and personal trainers? www.turnstep.com. It has a separate forum "BoxAerobics" for discussion about kickboxing and similar modes, and it also has a Movement Pattern forum where instructors contribute their ideas.

Also try the Vitas Vibe site, www.vitasvibe.com. This too is for GFI's and personal trainers, and I think it has a choreography clearinghouse as well.

If you already frequent those sites, please disregard this transmission.

Hi Kristie! The websites aquajock mentioned are great ways to get ideas. I also know a couple of people in the martial arts field so I either watch some of their classes or pick their brains for ideas. Hope this helps!

Billy Blanks has some good moves too. He has some moves where you hold your leg (standing up) in a number of certain positions and it is very difficult (similar to a constant contraction). It tests your ab strength and balance. Also, I agree that turnstep.com is a great web site. I check that one out every day.
