Kickboxing and Weighted Gloves

Hi! I have noticed in Cathe's Kickboxing workouts that they wear weighted gloves. Does anyone know how much they weigh? Does the extra weight add stress to the wrists or forearms? Or does it protect them? Any response would be great!!Thanks, Nancy~~~~

Hi there,

I asked this a while ago and found out they aren't weighted gloves it's tape they have wrapped around. I use 1# gloves when I do kickbox and I found them a while ago at Target.

Someone had posted a similar question on Ask Cathe awhile ago. You'll have to do a search on her forum to read what exactly she responded. Here's what I can remember from it: She included a link to the ones they like to use. I think they used all black and found that the black on the palm of glove can rub off and discolor. She also mentioned that they seemed to run on the small size and to order the next size up than what you would normally wear.

I bookmarked the link to the gloves:

When I ordered my Turbo Jam tapes (which I cannot stand by the way, I love Cathe, Tony and Billy so much better!) they sent a pair of 1 pound fitted gloves.
I wear them sometimes,I have what I term "man hands" so they feel a little tight on me, but they add a little resistance. You might be able to order them online at www.beachbody.com.

I use 1 lb weighted gloves for kickboxing & I really like them--I think it's part of the reason my arms have gotten more cut. They don't really stress the wrist or forearms but they do work the shoulders & lat muscles.

I can't remember where I got mine, but they're fabric & sand filled so I haven't had the color-bleeding problem. But I'd say they're a definite must-have for your collection. :)

If you do an advanced search using "weighted gloves" in the "open discussion forum" as the "thread title," you'll find info on them.

As others have mentioned, Cathe and crew are wearing wraps (with extra black tape on to keep them from unravelling, which makes them look a bit like gloves).

If you want gloves, I definitely recommend waiting until you have your KB form down (especially not locking the elbows), don't go above 1#, and don't wear them for the warm-up or cool-down (and work up to using them gradually, starting with 10 minutes at a time).
