Kick It Up--- May

Stacy - yes! I do have Cathe Timesaver....that's a good idea. I think I will try that and see if I can get into a routine again. Linda - yes, have been exercising but it has now been about 2 weeks since I did some...so basically starting over.

did you all both lose a lot of weight?

I am trying to stay around 1200 - 1400 calories...and then when I am exercising - trying to burn 300 - 400 calories....when I do that consistently and drink lots of water, I usually find success on the scale.

Hope you have a great day!

Kelly

Hi...to answer your question, no, I havent lost weight...I've gained!! Some background, Reader's Digest version....I have always been interested in fitness/diet. It used to be something I just enjoyed then as my life became stressful I turned to food as a comfort and exercise just wasn't fun anymore. I got into a viscous cycle of eating b/c of stress, feeling fat, then restricting cals too much...then I'd binge, feel fat, eat more etc etc. After having a goal of losing the 10 lbs I had gained, in the process I gained another 5-7 lbs. So recently Ive given up "dieting" and restricting foods and I'm trying the eating everything in moderation approach. I've been doing this for about a month and havent lost or gained mainly b/c I've been giving myself permission to eat "forbidden" foods. Mentally I'm at a better place and I'm slowly revamping my relationship with food. I had only worked out sporadically since October and last month I really got back into it consistently. Before my long string of life stressors I weighed about 110-115 and I'm currently at about 132-133 which is the highest Ive ever been. I'm not what you'd call fat but for me, I dont feel comfortable with how I look. I'm a work in progress. Right now I think I'd be relatively satisfied with a weight about about 120lb. I know I need to clean up the diet, but I'm doing in slow for fear of slipping into bad habits of defining my life with food and restricting myself too much.

I've just started a rotation using Meso 2, and I'm walking a half marathon in October so I'm going to get in some gradually longer walks along the way. It's been very helpful that my husband has started P90X, we help keep each other from slacking off and skipping workouts.

Today is a planned rest day for me and I'm going to enjoy it!! Tomorrow I have Meso 2 Back/Biceps on tap along with abs, and Sunday will be a 5-6 mile walk.

TGIF!!

Stacy - thanks for sharing. you are doing GREAT! I would love to see 132-133...you hang in there! I am going to start with the 30 - 40 min workouts and build back up to 60 min.

do you like STS? I don't have any of those DVDs....what Cathe strength training ones do you like (pre-STS)?

Hi girls!

Better heed that Stace, because Kelly's right, you know over time you've done the end run around your nemesis f-o-o-d, by changing the very thing that got you stuck, your relationship with it, it's true.

Kelly, I have lost weight, total of 22 lbs. I started at over 156, now 134 & I'm 5'5'', the biggest difference for me is shape, I lost 3 inches at the hips & 3 or 4 at the waist, that's probably due to all the step routines, something I never tried before last year, heck I learned about it on the Wii Fit, I know, too funny. I eat about 1400-1600 cal per day or more if I need more. I think I can do better on nutrition though.

I don't necessarily have to be a certain weight or size, but I do want to increase my level of fitness, I call it "the road to 4-Day Split" as an analogy, to describe that aim, and of course I actually do want to be able to complete 4-Day Split in it's entirety at some point, it just looks like my kind of workout.

So, in a nutshell, there you have it!

Bear with me Stace, I have to work this out in my noggin! You should have seen me with the pros & cons of getting the Step & basic in the first place, took the plunge. Great faith, great doubt, great effort.

Linda

Today is STS Back/Biceps and abs as soon as I finish this wonderful cup of coffee!! I've been emailing beachbody back and forth b/c my order was messed up, so aggravating. I think when it's all said and done I'm not going to order Insanity (which is what I tried to order initially!) I think it'll be too tough on the knees.

Hi Stace, Kelly,

Today, last active day of rotation, Drill Max drills #5 & #6 plus Basic Step. wasn't lovin' all of it but the football drills are cool. I'm feelin' a little taxed in the knee department, rest week coming up, gardening & other catch up around here. We had golf ball & bigger size hail yesterday, broken light here & windows down the street, jeesh, wouldn't want to get hit by one of those!

Between the drills & stepping, 587 calories, whew. I think I'm going to put a little boneless turkey in the crockpot to go with the theme this week "cruciferous vegetables" been slacking in that dept.

Have a good one!
Linda

Hi Stacy / Linda - hope you both are having a good weekend. I actually did get some exercise today - went to my tennis drills and there was only me, another lady and the pro - so I burned a little over 300 calories today....going to try and at least walk tomorrow.

Working on my plan for this week - gonna get up early and get it done. My goal is to do M - F this week.

Linda - great job on the high calorie burn! do you like drill max? I was thinking about getting it but it does look pretty intense.

Stacy - I have heard insanity is really hard...hence the name I suppose! but I bet it has great benefits!

Hi Stace, Kelly

End of rotation, according to the Cathe calendar, that's 3.1 lb. lost from the start of the rotation in the beginning of April, still averaging 1/2 pound per week ( it does go up & down during that time, more down than up! )

133.8 lb, I've hit that, my lowest three times, that's usually when I know it's taking ;) I've weighed in everyday for the last 11 weeks. It's been over 300 days since I started with the Wii Fit, & over 7 months of Cathe workouts. Total weight loss, 22.5 lb.

I've only done parts of Drill Max for approximately 30-35 minutes, combining two drills at a time with the warm up & cool down (@30-35 min each) This is my favorite "goal workout" It suits what I want to have in my arsenal for regular "go to" routines, it's brutally perfect! Next month I'll use the Total Body premix with some others.

Stace, I still love coffee, but I think the writing's on the wall for it, probably will have to cut out most, it's a leg lifter.
Good for you Kelly, on the tennis & pian for the week, go for it!

Sorry if I'm waving my own flag lately, last year at this time this kind thing was all but impossible, so I hope you don't mind if I stand & cheer once in a while.

YAY FOR LINDA!!!!!! What a sense of accomplishment you must feel and well deserved!! 22.5 lbs is fantastic. 1/2 lb per week is hard to keep the motivation up (at least for me) since you dont see dramatic changes on the scale day to day, and even many times it goes up, but over the long haul, like you said more downs than ups!! You mentioned Total Body....does Drill Max have a total body premix?? Hmm....gonna have to check that one out! What's the veggie update?? Maybe we could turn something veggie-related into the name of our June thread perhaps...sortof like a reverse "veggin' out" theme.

Kelly...good job on the tennis drills. The weather has been great here, I should get outside more. If the weather holds up next weekend I'll have to drag the bikes out and go for a long ride. Your plan for the week, the M-F, do you have specific workouts in mind?? If you havent worked out for awhile, maybe Wednesday as a rest day to split up the week??

I'm defintely feeling some soreness in my upper back from yesterday's STS back/biceps, but a "good" sore. Today I slept in a bit late, and have a 5 mile walk planned on the treadmill. We have afternoon plans so I hope I can walk, shower and be out the door on time. Tomorrow is a planned rest day. For the most part my schedule has been working out best to do 5 workouts per week and have Monday and Friday be rest days. I'll have to shuffle that around quite a bit the next 2-3 months b/c we have a ton of people at work on vacation so I'm covering alot of hours unfortunately.

Have a good Sunday everyone!!

Linda - CONGRATULATIONS! Wow, 22.5 lbs is a lot of weight! You SHOULD be singing your praises, tooting your horn, etc. so I assume you must have made diet changes too? what type of eating plan do you follow?

Thanks for the info on DrillMax - I like how you do the warm up, cool down and 2 drills - will definitely have to get that one.

Stacy - I really don't have a drawn up plan yet - except to say this: I plan to do some sort of cardio cathe or Kelly tape for 30 min; then I also want to incorporate some weight work too as I can. I saw in the latest Oxygen Magazine - on the cover it has a weight lifting plan to get your 'bikini body' by July....the lifting plan looks doable - I have heard that lifting burns as many calories or more long term as cardio. Like the idea of a Wed rest day.

Have a great sunday!

Hey Stace, Kelly,

Yes, Stacy, there is a Total Body premix, it's 52 minutes, there's other cardio premixes as well. I think the veggie check in sounds great.

Kelly, I had been working on changing my diet to one of mostly whole foods and more vegetarian/vegan style cooking for 2-3 years before really getting serious about the exercise, I was only walking then, and not very far. I did spend time learning how to get & prepare fresh foods from the market, but I'm not the best cook, I assemble quite well! :p

Currently, my diet has pretty good variation, could always eat more fruits & veggie's, other things I watch are portions, & I have really stuck to around 1400-1600 calories a day since last year, more if I exercise more, that is usually more than enough, I don't feel deprived. I'd say about 65% carbohydrate, 30% fruits vegetables, & 5% lean meat or protein, fish is something we've started eating more of. I don't buy hamburgers or red meat anymore, but it's okay if boyfriend wants that if we go out, & I'll have chicken/turkey occaisionally.

If I wrote a cookbook it would be called "Not Completely Vegan". I just feel better eating this way, better for us, better for planet, IMHO.

Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Linda

Linda - thanks for sharing! I started following the 'eat clean diet' - but I found that I was still eating too much / too many calories and not enough exercise. so I would say I am some where in the middle - try to eat whole / clean foods, but tracking calories and have treats every now and then (mainly sweets).

I went with my daughter to the gym where she works out today - did 35 min on the eliptical and 325 calories burned later...felt really good.

Kelly

Hi Kelly, Stace,

Good on the workout Kelly, that's a great burn for 35 minutes! & you had a workout buddy too! That's one thing I always like about Cathe's workouts, it's like you're in class, and I always laugh at what's she's sayin' to the girls, or viewers, like " are you really doing this? " or " Am I all together back there " ;)

Practicing the footwork on SJP to see if I can give the Hi/Lo a go, maybe not all the scissors, but I love the footwork.

Have a great rest day Stace! Made Quinoa & black bean salad yesterday, yum! Celebrate the good stuff!

Linda

Hi y' all

rainy Tuesday, this is my rest week before starting a new rotation, so I'm looking into other things, some MMA, exercises, for the next few months, not sure what I want to do with all that, just reading about it at this point. That & some effective head to toe stretching.

Have a Great Day!

Linda

Hi...I did Cardio & Weights this morning...an oldie but goodie!

Linda...do you have Cathe's newest Kickboxing/MMA/Boxing workouts?? I have 3 workouts called Budokon. I've previewed them and they look a bit out of my league but aspire to do them someday! They are martial arts/yoga inspired.

Kelly...good job on the workout! What's on tap for today??

Hi Stacy - I have Cardio & Weights AND the newest kickboxing/MMA/boxing but I haven't tried either....what is the cardio & weights one like? would that be considered a total body workout since it has both?

Didn't get my rear up this am - gonna try for later tonight or definitely tomorrow. my eating has been on track so I guess that is positive. gonna get in the groove soon ;)

Congrats Kelly, I dont think my eating has ever been in the groove!

Cardio & Weights has 4 short step routines that arent too complicated to learn. After each step routine there is a compound movement for legs and upper body, ie. plie squat with an upright row, lunges with bicep curls etc. After the compound move there is a slower, heavier strength portion for that particular upper body part. For example, after the plie squat/upright row you'll do heavier military presses for shoulders. The workout concludes with abs. The entire workout start to finish is an hour. This is my "go-to" workout when I'm not in the mood to workout or can't decide whether to do cardio or strength. It hits everything quite nicely and has no dread factor for me.

Well....I caved (again) and ordered Insanity from QVC! Wish me luck!

Hi girls,

I did quite a bit of C & W last month, it's a great circuit workout, I split it and used the premixes quite a bit, all step & total body (about 35 minutes each or so, and the full workout once) that might be a good one for you to do Kelly, I know you will like it, it's fun, try it out!

I don't have the MMA Stace, but when I first saw them last year I knew she must have made those just for me! ;) some time this year I hope, have you done any? can you give me a comparison or rating? I know (me, with the questions again) Hey, if that's what you want to do girl, go for it on the insanity, you won't know until you try! 'course you're going to have to review that for us too! Okay?

38 min elliptical today, not too bad, can't remember when I used the darn thing last...

Linda....I've done her newest boxing and kickboxing, but havent done MMA. I remember liking the boxing better than the kickboxing but dont recall why. It's been awhile since I've done either.

Kelly....how are you today?? I'd love to hear more about your daily menu.

I had the alarm set this morning to get my workout done before work, but it didn't happen. It's such a struggle to balance getting my workout done and overwith and getting enough sleep! Today is leg day. My plan is to do Pure Strength Legs & Abs. I want to do just the standing portion and then abs and then substitute Tonique Mat for the floorwork in PS. That'll be a bit of a long workout so I'll decide what exactly I'm going to do depending on what time I get home from work this evening.

My husband and I are doing a No Junk Food Challenge day today. Realistically we'd both like to eat cleaner and are doing it one day at a time. Our diets were horrible yesterday. He had just finished his P90X workout and then starting eating leftover pizza and his comment was "I feel kinda bad putting this stuff back into my body". I of course have those feelings for a fleeting moment and then eat junk anyways, grrr. Anyway, gotta run or I'll be late for work!!

Hello ladies!

Not much today, requisite shopping trip, cat food, paper products, snack foods, and the "Kitty Jungle Gym" assembly required. Now that our neighborhood cats have settled in, oh boy, treats.....love watching their silly antics, cat-boxing, wrestle-mania, jump higher! they're so funny, how did I get sucked into this? I'll have to take some pictures.
