Kettlebell Question

Hi, i'm interested in starting with kettlebells. I'm a guy and can lift as much or more than Cathe does in her videos. should I get a 25lb or 35lb if I'm just starting out? Thanks in advance.

Brad

I checked on www.dragondoor.com and they stated that the average man should start at 35 lbs. and will progess to 53 lbs. I started with 20 lbs. and have progressed (for swings) to 30 lbs and can do 1 or 2 swings at 35 lbs. Of course the weight varies depending on the exercise.

Hi Brad,

If you decide to get the 35-pound KB, you can also modify *some* of the moves using a lighter dumbbell. For instance, I have a really hard time doing Turkish Get-Ups and Windmills with my 15-pound KB, so I use an 8-pound dumbbell for these two moves; if the workout I'm doing then moves into something like swings next, I quickly swap out the DB for my KB.

Do you need any suggestions for videos to buy? :)

Do you have Keith Weber's Extreme Cardio one? It's fantastic! I've only done it once so far, and was really sore for a few days afterwards. }( There is more info and a clip on his website:

I just got Providence a few days ago, and am eager to try it out!:)

That does look good I think I am going to get that one. I know it says that you should be using 15lbs for girls but i have a 10lb and 20 lb and think the 12 lb for cleans etc would be better and use the 20 for squats. does that seem to little of weight?

I think it just probably depends on how the weights feel to you since each individual is so different. :) Is there a store near you where you could try swinging around various sizes to see what might work best?

Oh, and I made a goof -- I already have The Kettlebell Way (which is a new version of Art of Strength Providence), and just got AOS Newport, which is supposed to be harder. I'm hoping to try it out this week! :)
