Kari Anderson

I am thinking of giving her DVD's a try. For those who have tried her workouts what do you think of them/her?

Thanks in advance,
Teresa

I really like Kari Anderson. Her cadio is pretty fun. I'd classify most of her stuff as intermediate, though. I usually do her step tapes using an 8" step (compared to Cathe's stuff, where I typically keep the step at 6"). The only step workout I never really got into was Hot Steps; I think it was too "twirly" for me. She's got a bunch of toning videos too, but I don't really do those (they seem to be a mix of Pilates, yoga and ballet moves, by the way). She's got a great personality and her cuing is very good. I'd give her a try.

I tried one of her videos before I realized that I can't follow a step instructor but if I could, I would definitely like her. She was very clear and pleasant and motivating and her choreography wasn't too complicated (except to me, but I don't count because I can't follow anyone).

Thanks for the responses so far. Is there anybody else you all would recommend I try? I tried Christi Taylor (think that's her name!). The workout was called Step Heaven. I wanted to like her, but I just could NOT get into it. Maybe her other videos/DVDs are better.

Nancy, you're funny!

I like Kari Anderson too and I think she is tall and I am tall and so we have something in common----wishful thinking. Anway, she has a pleasant personality and cues well. As for Christi Taylor, I have tried about six of her videos and have traded them all. I am sort of a klutz and it took a while to get Cathe's workouts but I did get them and I just couldn't get Christi. She seems like a swell gal, but her choreography was just too difficult for me.

I have never done her step but I tried a hi/lo tape of hers a while ago. I don't remember the name of it but she lead it with a guy. I attempted it about 3x and gave up and gave it away. I am not a real dancey person and the choreography was SUPER COMPLEX and over the top dancey for me. I didn't like it at all but those who are better-coordinated and like dancey moves may enjoy it and be able to catch on better than I!

ETA: I tried Christi Taylor Fantastic 4 Workouts (step and hi/low) and didn't like any of them either. I just sold that dvd on ebay as a matter of fact.

HTH!:)

I love her stuff! :) I've got "Angles, Lines & Curves" (first one) and "Angles, Lines, & Curves II" (which is excellent) and I just got "Go," her intermediate step offering, which I really like and "Reach," sort of along the lines of Angles, Lines & Curves II but even better, I think, and that's saying a lot for me because I love ALC II so much! ALC II and Reach are both sort of Pilates-Yoga-Ballet-type infusion workouts, both about an hour...very challenging, both of them, and she's just soooo graceful. :)

I have a couple of old step tapes of Kari, she was one of my first bench workouts. She's very likeable and knowledgable. I found her workouts too be too dancy for me in general. Also, her music even at the time was a bit outdated. Unfortunately, I can't really comment on the stuff she's done more recently. I would suggest going to collagevideo.com and viewing clips of her recent stuff to get a bit of a feel. They're not very long clips, but it's better than nothing.

I like Kari Anderson. I actually prefer her hi/lo over her step because her step can be pretty dancy. AS for Christi Taylor, her step is tough choreography-wise, but I LOVE, LOVE her hi/lo!

Thanks so very much for the great detailed responses! I looked at a video clip as suggested at Collage and her PUSH DVD that has step and high/lo looks like it would be fun/good. Anybody tried this one?

HI!
I just received the "Push" DVD, and I did the step segment last night. I am a huge Kari fan, but I didn't care for the step segment of this video (there is also a hi-lo section that I haven't tried, yet). The combinations involve a lot of intricate dancy turns that are surrounded by filler moves like kicks corner to corner. I usually like the dancy stuff, but I don't like the sensation of falling off my step or tripping over it. So...in my opinion, this workout isn't as great as her "Hot Steps" I love that workout! It's fun, a little dancy and it also gets your heart rate up, although not as high as Cathe. I also like her Curl video for Ab work. Kari Anderson has such a great presence and she does cue well. Oh one other thing I didn't like about the Push video is that they pan out so you get a really far away look of Kari and her girls as they exercise. I sort of found that annoying, because I felt very removed, but then they zoom back in so it only happens a few times.

That's it! I also purchased the DVD-Ready, Step, Go- by Kelly Coffey-Meyer as recommended on this site. It's good, but a little hard to follow (hopefully, it will be easier next time I do it). I also don't like doing my step vertical or perpendicular to the TV. I just don't have the space and this video needs you to have space. You are doing L-steps off the end into a squat--unfortunately my TV is right there so I have to maneuver to the side. I'm not sure why that bugs me, but it does.

Hope this helps!

I really do like Kari. She is very calm and reassuring, yet she sweats! A great combination, IMO. I enjoy the dancy nature of her workouts. Her workouts have a "learning curve" built in; you can do less of the turns as you learn and add them in when you are comfortable. Even with the modifications, you do get a good workout.

I like Christi Taylor for the same reason. In fact, her DVDs actually have a tutorial section separate from the workout. And she has some ladies who do the modified moves while she and the other ladies do the the fancy moves. So again you get a good workout with a nice learning curve.

Neither of these ladies are as intense as Cathe, but they are fun and the time flies by!

I am not a Kari cardio fan. I want to like her cardio, but it's not my thing. I really Like her ab vid. CURL. Awesome ab vid!!! I highly recommend it.

I really like Kari Anderson, but I don't own a lot of her workouts. I love Angles, Lines & Curves 1&2 and plan to get her new Reach video soon. Her Body Tech workout is fun...half step/half weights. Not advanced like Cathe but it's ok to do on low energy days. The step portion is easy to follow. I actually did this workout a lot when I was pregnant.
