Just looking isn't fattening, right?

YUM!

I am in the same boat. I can't have wheat/grains/gluten and I read foodgawker.com every night while I nurse my baby. I think I have MORON stamped across my forehead most of the time!:p

Yummmmmmmy. No, looking is not fattening. And neither is smelling. Whenever my husband or sister or other family sugar-eater is about to indulge in front of me, they always hand it over and let me have a lovely smell. That's all I need now- a deep whiff of the fresh chocolate chip cookie or dark chocolate bar!

Oooooh, what a wonderful website! My bread machine died 2 years ago and I haven't replaced it yet. Been thinking about trying my hand at it the old-fashioned way, but keep shying from it! My brother has always been great at making breads! Hmmm, this makes me want to actually try it!

I'll ponder it a bit more!

Tricia - you should make your own. I love making bread and never owned a bread machine. I think there is something very comforting about staying in all day when the weather is bad, and making bread.

If you are looking for an easy way to make bread, check out this link. I took a class from the author and have been making homemade bread ever since. I started with white breads until I got the technique down then moved on to whole wheat. Nothing beats fresh homemade bread:p

Cindi - I know! Even though most of what I do is stay home, I just haven't gotten around to trying my hand at it! It would certainly be cheaper than a new bread machine!

Judi - Thanks for the link! I'll be bookmarking it and, who knows, maybe I'll give it a go this weekend! I'm in all day Saturday anyway and I could surprise my DH who will be in Boston all day with class and review for mid-terms!

I keep hearing about that bread book but haven't purchased it. It's very tempting - especially now with Judi's endorsement.

I really need to get the cooking under control in my home - I'm just not doing as much as I like.

Cindi & Tricia-

Get the book!! I was really intrigued by the process so I signed up for his class. This is the easiest technique I've ever seen for making bread. Basically you mix yeast, flour, kosher salt & lukewarm water in a container. Let it rise on your counter for 2 hours then put it in the frig. Tear off a piece of dough (about grapefruit size), shape it, let it rise for an hour then bake it on a pizza stone or in a bread pan. The trick is to place a broiler pan under the stone and throw in a cup of hot water at the start of the baking process. This ensures a chewy inside and crispy outside. Here is a pic of the dough rising and the finished product.
