I'm going to teach this winter when the hotel I work at closes for the season. My boss put in a good word for me at the elementary school where her kids go, so I'm going to offer it as an elective.

Sure, it won't pay anything, but that's not why I want to teach.

This will go a long way towards relieving winter boredom for me!

Congratulations!

Now, just remember that class you took that you were telling us about...and do the complete opposite of what that instructor did!;-)

Congraduations!! Don't worry about the low pay the experience of teaching is priceless.

Congrats.

I taught fitness as an elective at a private middle school for 4 years. If you don't mind, here are a couple of suggestions:

Don't try to choreograph too much, kids have a pretty short attention span....

Teach in small spurts, high activity then a recovery session...

Keep the focus on you at all times...

Also, try to go to a local karate studio and watch the instructors teach the little ones. A good friend of mine has his own studio and it is amazing how well the young students respond to him.

Teaching children is tons of fun, you will definately laugh every day (some days only at yourself!) It was one of the best and most challenging experiences so far.

Best of luck,
Debbie Russo
