Just had lasik surgery on Friday

First thanks to everyone who told me their experiences with Lasik. It definitely helped with the butterflies. On Friday I had wavefront lasik with intralase (which means they cut the corneal flap with the laser too). Highlights of the surgery:
- being told the suction cups would leave hickies on my eyeballs (has anyone else ever had hickies on their eyeballs? This made me giggle.)
- being told that everything was going well during the surgery. My surgeon and the nurses were awesome!
- having bubbles swept off my eyeball with what looked like a minature curling broom
- being told it was done and that the flaps looked good! Yippee!
- the next day being told that my vision was 20/20 in the left eye and 20/25 in the right eye. The right eye may even improve as there is still swelling. Being told that I can drive my car without glasses! I've always had to wear glasses to drive. My vision prior to the surgery was 20/800 (or -6.25 for glasses). My stigmatisms were corrected so things are sharp not rounded now.
It's utterly amazing and the best possible Christmas present for me. I've been giddy all weekend!

Holy cow! What an improvement! You're right what a great Xmas present! Good for you for treating yourself to this! :)

Good for you!!! I had LASIK in June 2004 and my vision was still 20/20 when I went for my one year checkup. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself and you'll feel the same way!!

Congratulations! I know exactly how you are feeling! I had the surgery in January of 1998 and I am still 20/20 and sometimes better! My contacts were a -6.5 and a -7.

My main story after the surgery was that I understand how people get hooked on Valium. I only took half the pill that they gave me and I enjoyed the feeling! (I am not a drinker or any other type of drug user, but it made me understand a little how people become addicted!)

I was the most glad that I had the surgery when my little ones woke me in the middle of the night and I could actually see my clock and didn't have to reach for my glasses to see where I was going!

Enjoy your new vision!

I'm not feeling around for my glasses, but I do keep putting my finger on my nose to adjust the glasses which are not there.

I still have haze as the swelling as to go down some more which reminds me that I've had the surgery. The surgeon says it can take up to 7 days for the haze to go away. It's kind of like seeing things through a lense wiped with vaseline. If you've ever seen moonlighting, everytime the lense was on Cybil Shephard that's the kind of haze I have right now. It's already less haze then yesterday. The halos are pretty cool looking but they'll also probably go away. I suspect when the haze goes away I'll be trying to take off my glasses at bedtime.

wow!!! good for you!!!!!!!! i would love to have lasik.. but i'm scared.. i have horrible horrible horrible eyesight! and it seems to get worse every year! stories like yours (and the others in the thread) may help me shake my fear.....
