Jumping into clean eating

What's the best way to do this? I don't think I can handle it if I do everything at once so I'm thinking cutting out chocolate would be a good start.

Now Kim... let's not go overboard here... Give up CHOCOLATE??? Surely you jest?!?! there are SO many things I would cut out BEFORE I'd cut out the chocolate! :)

Honestly, I would like to know as well... I find eating "clean" so very hard... I'd settle for eating Healthy! the little research I have done on eating clean seems almost impossible for me... and doing it at the same time as getting myself into a workout routine was just too overwhelming... now that I am getting my workouts more reglular, I'd like to focus on my eating too...

I just bought The Tosca Reno The Eat-Clean Diet and the cookbook, and bought a bunch of things for her recipes. They look fantastic!

I bought them cheap on Amazon.com if you are interested. I'm starting tomorrow for sure, but I'm not way off base either with my eating as is. Just want to fine tune it a little more.

Maybe that's a better way of saying it....."fine tuning." If I were a normal person, I wouldn't have to give up chocolate completely. However, I'm NOT. :p I'm sure there is plenty of room for improvement where the sweets are concerned. How about I NOT eat the pumpkin cheesecake at Olive Garden or the pastries at work on Friday mornings.

these are a few of my favorite things! in my best Julie Andrews impersonation! OMG... it's no wonder I can't loose any weight...

in all seriousness though, when I WAS on WW a few years ago they say everything in moderation (or that was the way I took it anyway) and not to deny yourself things that you really crave for long periods of time. So I bought the WW deserts and as long as I was within my Points for the week I did lose weight and DIDN'T give up my chocolate, just didn't eat the whole da*n pound bag of M&M's! I can't imagine that eating chocolate would be considered "clean" but maybe there is a clean version?

Take it slow would be my advice. Maybe limit yourself to one full-blown dessert per week, but one small square of dark chocolate each day.

Make small changes -- switch from white bread to whole wheat/whole grain, 2% milk to 1% or fat free, and make sure that you are eating enough vegetables, especially green! Choose lean proteins (boneless skinless chicken or very lean ground beef -- I buy 96% lean).

My definition of "clean eating" is probably very different from many other people's, but I have made sooooo much progress from where I was a few years ago. I have never read Tosca's book, nor do I plan to. I just try to eat food in it's most natural state.

Well, I already eat whole wheat bread, when I eat bread, and use fat free milk. I know I don't eat enough vegetables though and that's one of the hard things; adding them in. I also have pretty much cut out the diet sodas and drink water. I still drink the propel water when I work out only because plain water does nothing to quench my thirst. But I'm drinking plain water throughout the day.

I agree.

A good start would be to ditch sodas and change to water.
Start drinking more teas and less coffee.
Add a big salad filled with dark greens and veggies at the start of lunch and dinner.

The important thing is to make the best choice most of the time : whole grains (NOT 'wheat bread'--just another name for white bread made from wheat--but "whole wheat" or "whole grain" breads. From there, reduce the amount of bread you eat and transition to healthier grains in their whole form). For a sweet craving, try fruits (like apples) instead of processed foods.

There are three guys at work who are always trying to give me candy bars and I've finally started turning them down... Then, today, I whined to my buddies that someone better bring in some half-priced Holloween candy tomorrow and I thought 'Why are these words coming out of my mouth...?'
