Jump Rope?

Hi all...I really love this forum.......

Does anyone out there think that jumping rope is a good workout? I read in a magazine that it can burn 600 calories in 30 minutes.

JUMP ROPING

I think you are right about the calories and I think jump roping is considered a great aerobic choice, but have you ever tried doing it? I'm telling you after approximately 1 minute of doing it, you are ready for a break!! It is a very challenging workout. I've thought about trying it as a day in my rotation, but I know that it is very high impact and the only place I can do it is in my basement on the concrete floor. OUCH!! Good luck if you decide to do it and keep us informed. Yes--This forum IS great!! Debbie

jumprope

Hi Dobberjean! Read your post and you might want to try Kickbox Express tape from Janis Saffell. There's a very good jump rope section in the tape. I do it but without the jump rope as I do it in my basement and the ceiling isn't high enough to accommodate the rope. It's pretty advanced but the whole tape is a lot of fun. Enjoy! Kathy

jump rope w/Janet

Hi. I am using that jump rope section from Janet's kickbox tape as well. It only lasts 17 minutes so it is great for hectic days.It is advanced, but I have never seen a beginner tape anywhere.
Let me know about your results.

jump rope

Hello, I love to jump rope as a workout once in awhile. It really gets your heartrate up so you have to make sure that you stay in your zone and check your pulse. Two of my favorite tapes for jump rope is Elaine's Health Moves Jump Fit and Mindy Mylrea Jumpstep. Sorry Cathe, If you had a jumprope tape I know that it would be my favorite because all of your step tapes are.(no joke!!)
Hope this helps

I've been wondering the same...

Thanks for the info on jump-roping. I'd love a good tape. Where can I find the two you mentioned? I thought it would be good to jump rope when I can't run. It is supposed to be less stressful than running.

jump rope tapes

Susan,

I just saw this post. I love jumproping! It takes time to learn, though. You need patience, a high ceiling, and a non-concrete floor as well as good aerobics shoes.

Janis Saffell's tape is great. The jumprope on it is advanced, however. It is hard to do. For me, the hardest part was the arms (she whips that rope around exremely fast). Aerojump, by Micheal Olijade Jr. is a better tape, in my opinion. It is all jumprope (about 30 minutes) with sections so that you don't have to do it all. He also talks about technique and rope length, flooring etc.. Both of these tapes are available through Collage video (their website is collagevideo.com).

I'm not sure where to get Mindy's tape I had it but don't know where it is now and don't remember where I got it ?collage?. It is a combination of jumprope and aerobics. It's ok, but difficult to follow due to poor production quality.

Also, make sure to get a good rope (speed ropes are best).

Good luck,

Irene

Jump Rope tapes

Thanks so much Irene for the info! It will be very helpful. I was thinking of getting Aerojump. Now I just may go ahead. Thanks again!

I was referring to the other tapes mentioned

I have "Aerojump" and the "Kickbox Express" already, it was the others mentioned that I wanted purchasing information on.

Don't forget Aerobox!

I just got Aerobox and it has three good jump rope sections in it. Be careful however if you are new to it - I cam barely walk today because I overdid it on the impact. I did CIA 9801 Hi/Lo on Sunday, Aerobox on Monday and MIC yesterday. I had to stop in the middle of MIC's step portion because the balls of my feet hurt so bad. Be easy on those tootsies!
