Jump rope for cardio

Looking for some cardio variation, I came across a 15 min jump rope cardio idea on bodyrocktv. Now I must admit I havnt jump rope since childhood. But I must be doing something wrong. I can only get about 3 to 4 straight jumps before rope trips up. Whats the secret for jumping at least 25 straight jumps? BTW I cant get the little chat we would say when we jumped rope as kids out of my head: "ice cream, soda, ginger ale, pop! tell me the initials of your sweet heart...a, b, c,....."

It was a pretty decent cardio, I'm sweating as I type this....

Ummmm, it's not the rope tripping up . . . . that's user error (joke). Practice, practice, practice is my suggestion. It took me forever to stop "school girl" jumping. That's where you double hop each jump. I'm not very good at it but I'm getting better with practice. Make sure your rope is the right size (I have an adjustable rope now). A rope that's too big could be some of the "tripping up" problem. I think it's great exercise too.

So what is school girl jumping??? I have been trying some of the Bodyrock.tv workouts too and the jump rope stuff was not working for me so I just pretended that I had a rope. My Ds was trying the circuit too and he thought I was crazy. I can't get the rope to go fast enough for my feet and I feel like I'm such a goof tripping all the time. Do you lift on foot at a time? I have to say that with just pretending it was still a really good workout!.

I'm a school girl alright.
Maybe tomorrow I will just try without the intention of getting good workout and see if I can get it down!
Thanks Sancho

OMG..I purchased the aero jump video this summer and I was like hey no big deal I got this of course I can jump rope. Ok, 1st 10min my jump rope broke so I was like I am going to still do video without rope. OMG you do not realize how heavy your body is jumping up and down so I barely made it through video but it was nice cause has toning sections in between. Ok, next day legs sore and booty achy in places that have not ached before doing weights I was like yikes. A couple of days later got a new jump rope and did the video again OMG I was like str-ugg-ling very good effective workout though.

You could always get this: http://www.jumpsnap.com/ . I have it and trust me, with the weights in it, it's a killer workout. You can use it with any jump rope program and you don't need a lot of room since you aren't using a rope and you only need to be remotely coordinated to move your wrists in time with your jumps.
