Hey all !!
Was wondering if anyone here juices ? If you do, do you like it? Do you have any good receipes ?
Thinking about the Jack Lalanne Juicer ...
Thanks

ooo i just saw the informercial for this one.... looks pretty cool, it can juice the entire apple! lol I was wondering too about this, it might be good, especially when you are on the run and need to get some veggies and fruits in. I'd be curious if others use this or something like it....

I bought a juicer a few years ago. Not that specific one, and i can't even tell you the name brand of the one i bought. It was such a pain to clean and even more so to prepare all the fruits/veggies to go in the juicer. It took like half a bag of oranges to make a glass of orange juice. I don't know if i'm just lazy, but it was way to much work and mess for me.

I did use it a few times in the past year however, to juice some veggies to add to meatloaf etc.... to sneak the veggies in the kids;-)

This isn't going to actually help you at all, but it's my "juicer" story. Five years ago I bought one (can't recall which brand) when I was pregnant with my daughter. In the first trimester I was unable to choke down vegetables, so thought juicing might be a way of getting some nutrition into me. I made some kind of blend a couple of times that was predominantly carrot juice. It was working fine, until the third time, when I drank a big glass of juice, was hit with a large wave of nausea, and ended up puking the carrot juice out through my nose. To this day, the thought of carrot juice makes me ill, and I haven't been able to use my juicer since.

I also found the effort required to create the juice was disproportionate to the results. There seem to be a plethora of fruit and vegetables juices available in the stores these days, so that's what I do now. My grocery store even sells organic versions.

Cheers!
Sandra

I used to juice quite a bit. I like a combo of carrot/pineapple/winesap apple.

I had the Jack Lalanne juicer for a while, but it is not really a sturdy machine (not compared to the Acme juicer--not manufactured by the same place Wiley Coyote gets his stuff from! ;-) -- I had for 20 years! and which never needed a replacement part!).

I don't juice much any more, but do buy carrot juice at the local health food store once in a while. I think it's healthier to eat whole foods (juicing removes the beneficial fiber). Rather than a juicer, I'd suggest one of those Vitamix machines that can juice whole foods, make soup, and make ice cream as well as a lot of other things.

I have a Juiceman juicer, and last year I got on a big juicing kick. My only problem is that my stomach can't handle all that acidity without the fiber to go along with it, so juicing isn't something I do a lot. I still get in the mood for it once in a while, though.

Here's a neat trick, though. The guy on FitTV with the cooking show Fit Cuisine (Jim Shiebler), takes pineapple and a couple of other fruits/veggies (I think carrots is one), makes a juice that he uses for a sauce, then takes the pulp that spits out the back into the bin and spreads it on on a cookie sheet in a half-inch layer or so. Then he bakes this pulp on really low heat to dry it out. Then he puts in a blender or food processing (it's hardened when it comes out of the oven) and blends in some spices and seasonings to make a really nice, flavorful seasoning for fish, chicken, and/or steamed vegetables. So, nothing goes to waste when he juices. I have to try this the next time I juice.

wow! neat idea!!!

I love juicing! I have a Champion juicer which I think is wonderful. My friend has a Vita Mix and says it is more like a heavy duty blender. Somewhere I have a bookmarked site that explains all the different kinds of juicers and the pros and cons...I will try to find it. I like juicing with it, but I can also make frozen sorbet type of desserts by just pureeing frozen fruit. There is a little shield attatchment thing that keeps the juice from separating from the pulp. No sugar, pure fruit and YUMMY!

One of my favorites is grapefruit, orange and kiwi. It is a Super C drink and great for recovery, or when you are coming down with a cold, or just need a boost of energy. I also like carrot, apple and cucumber. There are tons more and many good books on this. I have a number of them, sadly, as cookbooks are somewhat of an addiction for me.

I tend to do a three day juicing/cleansing fast once a month or so. Not totally faithfull to that, but I really like how I feel after. It is how I break bad habits that can creep into eating. I got off of coffee doing this, sugar for the most part, white flour stuff, and that bowl of microwave popcorn in the evening. Not that I don't ever have any of this ever ever again, but it is a good way to 'break through' for me.

I hope this link works! I am not giving an opinion one way or the other on this article. It was just something I found when looking into juicing and the different types of juicers. Extraction, masticating etc. which I had never known. I already had my Champion juicer, but had wondered about getting a Vita Mix.

The idea of fasting, for me, is to give my body a break. Juicing helps because you are getting a lot of nutrition but not all the work meaning it is simple for you body to process. Your needs and intentions may be different, and I also don't want to put myself out there as an expert. I just tend to search a lot of Google and read what I can:)
