Jogglers June 2012

RapidBreath

Cathlete
I took yesterday as an unexpected rest day. My brother has some sort of GI bug. I felt poorly, I hope that I don't catch it. Today I'm doing Jillian Michaels Burn Fat Boost Metabolism, which is a whole body circuit, and Cathe's MMA Boxing (without the abs). This afternoon I will do Desi's Lunar Yoga. Tomorrow will be a jog/walk plus a 25 min. Shiva Rea (spl) segment.

My Dad is having a root canal today. :( Thats not nearly as much fun as a workout.

Tricia- Good job on your runs:)

Jane- Hi!

Alisha

TGIF!!

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things after my vacation. Yesterday and this morning were crazy days at work. I need more vacation. :(

This is what I've done so far.

Wednesday - 4 mile run and a swim afterwards.

Thursday - Rest day

Friday - Rest day. I'm running a 5K in the morning and will be up extra early as it is a long drive. We are going to the Blueberry Festival again as my sister wants to get some blueberry bushes as they are very inexpensive. I hope to get a bunch of blueberries as well as the are extra cheap.

Alisha - Hope all goes well with your dad's root canal. Yikes!

Tricia - Great job on your run. I have the actual Gymboss - not the app. The actuall Gymboss is probably better. I never had trouble with it.

Happy rainy Saturday ladies!

I'm getting my motivation up for STS Disc 1 today. Dreading it. I'm so weak because of no strength training for ages. I know I'll be starting over, but I've got to start to get anywhere, right? It's going to hurt!

Alisha - I hope your brother is feeling better and you did not catch it!

Hope your dad's root canal went smoothly. I hurt just thinking about it! Ouch!

Enjoy you jog/hike today and yoga! I'm trying out a new yoga place in Barrington that one of our attorney's helped set up the company for. It's a free class for beginners in the morning at 9:00 a.m. I'm not joining or anything, but wanted to try the class.

Jane - Enjoy your run this morning! You're probably already done! lol ;) I want to buy lots of fresh berries this year and freeze them. I remember you posted some instructions a while back on how to do this successfully. Would it be a lot of trouble to ask if you could post those again? I can't seem to find it.

I may have to break down and buy a gym boss. My apps are sucking big time these days and I don't feel like I'm making any progress trying to wing it. I'm somewhere between a good 2-3 minute run interval, but by 3 minutes, I'm barely breathing! :( I think part of it is that I was already in great shape when I started running last time after doing about a year of Cathe workouts. It's harder this time because I'm getting back my general fitness endurance at the same time as getting back my running endurance. I'll make it - eventually!

Okay, no more delaying. Time to go set up for STS. I'm going to do 2 days back to back on Saturday and Sunday because STS takes up so much time due to pausing for equipment changes and only one during the week. I'll have to split up the upper body work and do one upper and legs on the weekends and the other upper body on Tuesdays. Hope I don't screw myself up and get lost as to which disc I'm supposed to be on!

Have a fabulous day!

P.S. Jane - I'm looking at the Gym Boss now and see that it lists workouts on the website like a Run Walk Run program and HIIT, etc. Are these programmed into the Gym Boss when you get it or are these just examples of what you can do with it? Looking at the running program, it looks like you have to order a separate timer from Galloway's website. I'm confused.

I really enjoyed that Jillian workout on Friday. Now I want to buy a copy. Yesterday I did a long hike plus some Shiva Rea. I took today as a rest day. I'm super sore from Jillian and my hill hike yesterday. I will probably do a hike/yoga tomorrow morning.

I'm going to try some of those raw home made juices. I have lots of veggies and frozen fruits. I have some dandelion greens, celery, spinach, and a ninja just sitting around.

My Dad is doing well. He is of course on soft foods.

Tricia- I hear you!!! I'm not at the level of fitness that I was, but I'm getting there. Don't worry about the heart rate being anaerobic, just push 10 seconds past what you think you can stand. Only do that 2-3 times a week giving yourself a day off between workouts. Also, don't pay attention to distance, just focus on running for a longer time, the distance will come. You will get there I promise!

Don't forget: you might want to re-test your 1 rep max to avoid lifting too heavy and hurting yourself too much.

Jane- How was your race? Those blueberries sound great!!

Alisha

Happy Monday!!

I was up early - 4:10 am and on the road before 5am to get to the Blueberry Festival. We could have left a little later but we'll know better next time. The weather was beautiful...cool and breezy. Last year it was horrible...hot, muggy and humid. I did about 20 seconds better than last year and took 3rd in my age group by mere seconds. There was a lady in front of me and when I saw the clock, I took off because I wanted to beat my time not the lady. When we were filling out cards, I saw that she was 53 so I was very lucky to pull out 3rd place. So I was very happy and got a nice trophy.

We got 24 pints (2 flats) of blueberries. They were so cheap, only $1.66 a pint when you bought them in the flats. How could I resist? The cheapest I've seen them here is $2.50/pint. I'm selling some off to my family and some co-workers and will freeze the rest.

On Sunday I ran 8 miles and then swam in the afternoon. I went over to mom's and took her elderly neighbor 2 pints of blueberries. She was so happy to get them!!

Tonight I am doing an upper body workout but I don't have one picked out yet. I will post it when I figure it out.

Alisha ~ I'm glad you like the Jillian workout. Your hike sounds lovely. I'm glad your dad is doing better.

Tricia ~ To freeze blueberries...wash them and put them on a paper towel to dry (otherwise the blueberries will freeze together or get ice on them). When they are dry, spread them on a single layer on a baking sheet with wax paper and put them in the freezer for a couple of hours. Then take them out and put them in a freeze bag.

Those workout are not programmed into the Gymboss. They are just guidelines for you to use in planning out your workouts. The Gymboss is very basic and super easy to program. The Gymboss should be sufficient for your needs. I don't know what Galloway is selling. You can order the Gymboss from their site or from Amazon. You can set a single time or dual times (like run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute). You just have to listen for the beep. It also vibrates too. I use it mainly for HIIT or timed workouts.

I hope STS went well. You will get your strength back in no time.

No jog/yoga, just Tracy's Omni today; we are expecting lots of rain/lightening. Its really grey out there. Tomorrow will be a rest day because I have a seminar on how to manage multiple projects.

Jane- Good job on your race!!! Those blueberries sound wonderful! I love blue berry crepes.

Tricia- How was your free yoga class? I am thinking about getting a gym boss too.

Alisha

Alisha - I missed yoga - overslept. I'm bummed and glad. Found out that one of our male clients went and I certainly would not have been comfortable in my yoga clothes around him! Glad the Jillian workout was good! I am trying to increase my running intervals a little more each week. I think I'm just impatient this time because I was already there once!

Glad your dad is doing well! Yes, juice those fruits! Excellent for drawing all the nutrition out and digesting more quickly and easily!

Jane - great work on your race! Thanks for the info on the Gym Boss. I definitely want to pick up fresh berries this year! Thanks for the freezing tips! I expect you can do the same with all berries.

I did not run last night. The weather was totally atrocious! Wind, rain, cold. Ugh! Tonight is back and triceps. Alisha, I went back to my initial 1RM numbers from when I first did STS and it's going well. I'm just really sore from lack of use! lol

We're expecting this weather all week. Hopefully, it won't be as bad as last night!

Today is a rest day. Darned if I know what I'm doing tomorrow. :p

Tricia- I kind of hate when dudes are around and I'm trying to get a workout. I think that is the primary reason I prefer working out at home.

The best advice I ever learned was from Sarah Kline on Yogatoday.com. She said that having a ''one more forever' attitude was a great spirit.'' I have greatly benefitted from that. Otherwise I would have given up a long time ago when the hills were too hard or I had to rebuild my stamina yet again (having had several broken bones.) Now, especially with running, I just try to enjoy the step I'm in and not worry about the next one. I keep my chin up, I look around, I breathe deep, and its ok that I'm not where I was before because I couldn't be there anyway, the planet is hurtling through space at an intense rate anyway. We are never where we were before, regardless of the pace that we can keep. I hope that helps. It helps me.

Jane- Hi!!! How are your blueberries? I see scones in your future:D

Alisha

Here is my workout from last night. It was warm but breezy and we ran in the sprinkler between rounds.

2 Rounds - 40 Rope slams after each body part
5 Halos - R/L, 10 Jumping Pull ups, 15 Rows
5 Halos - R/L, 10 Chest Presses, 15 Push ups
5 Halos - R/L, 10 Side Lateral Raises, 15 Barbell Presses
5 Halos - R/L, 10 Hammer Curls, 15 Bicep Curls
5 Halos - R/L, 10 Kickbacks, 15 Tricep Extensions

Then Farmers Walk around the block w/2-18#kbs - alternating with my sister.

Today is a scheduled rest day.

Alisha - Enjoy your rest. The blueberries are good. I sold some to people at work but I'm freezing the rest.

Tricia - I'm sorry the weather is icky. We are suppose to get storms and rain tonight but it's the usual afternoon thunderstorms that we get in the summer. I hope we get something (we need rain) but nothing severe.

Dad is worse. We are probably going (by we, I mean me.) to take him to the dentist today. His pain meds just aren't working.

I'm having IBS. I should know better than to eat rice crackers. They always come back to bite me back.

This morning I had a dream about Hugh Jackman and then my Mom woke me up. Dang it! :D

I just took a shower just in case I don't get the chance to have a shower later. I'm hoping that the dentist can help my Dad understand that a fully grown male can have more than 200 mg. of ibuprofen!!! He just doesn't believe me! Gah!

I'm hoping that I can have a late afternoon cardio/yoga fest. I just got Michelle Dozois' Fat Burning Jam from Netflix. I also want to get another dose of yoga today.

Jane- That looks like a great workout! We had some rain on Monday but its back to the normal hot stuff today.

Alisha

Morning!

Belated check in! My iPad app doesn't let me see all the previous posts to reply, so I forget what's going on!

Alisha - Thanks for that sage advice! I like it! Last night was a good run even though my new interval app stopped on me. I think I ran longer intervals that way. lol

Gosh, Alisha! I hope your dad's okay and it's just pain and not an infection! Hope it all went well with the dentist and you were able to get a workout in.

IBS is miserable! Hugh Jackman, huh? Hope he comes back!

Jane - What's a halo? I'm so not versed in the speak! Workout looks great! How's your battle rope holding up? You certainly are getting a lot of use out of it!

I remember those afternoons storms! They'd last about 5-15 minutes and then the sun would come out and it would be humid and hot! Don't miss the humidity that's for sure!

I had a lovely run half in the rain last night! Really picked up my mood! Don't know why all my running apps won't work right. I thought I was hitting the pause button accidentally, but nope. Even when I held the phone (which defeats the purpose), it would quit or drop back to the first part of the round. Sigh. Oh, well. I was going to go ahead and order a Gym Boss, but another friend said she had 4 lying around and is going to send me one of hers! Yay! I have such great friends!

Well, it appears to be way to wet and rainy for golf tonight, so I'm going to make up my back and triceps workout I missed due t laziness on Tuesday instead. Get back on schedule!

See you ladies later!

Good Morning!

I was suppose to go for a run but it was stormy last night. We had some cell that hung over a part of town for about an hour and that area got major flooding. Thankfully it was not near me or any family members. My sister had a brief power outage but no damage.

Here is what I did instead inside:
100 swings
100 push ups
100 pull ups
100 squats
100 weighted sit ups

I'm going to try a 4 mile run tonight but we are expecting storms again today but only 40% so maybe it will hit another area.

Alisha ~ Hugs and prayers to you and your dad. I hope you guys are feeling better.

Tricia ~ Here is an example of a Halo. Actually the clip is of a Slasher-to-Halo. Great move for the core and upper body. I just did the Halo part.

Mountain Athlete

The battling rope is handling well. I just thread it through my Big Bertha (53#) kettlebell and drop it over the side of my carport and it works well. Great cardio and core workout!!

Good morning

My Dad served in Vietnam, so every once in a while, he starts the morning by saying, in his best 'drill sergeant' voice, "Jumping Jacks!!" Ok, this morning I am doing Taebo (20 min.) and then Cardio Supersets. Lets here it for the jumping jacks!

Jane- Thanks for the hugs, we appreciate it. I think my Dad seems a little better now. I am always impressed with your workouts!

Tricia- Thanks for the well wishes for me and Dad. I think that because we are Cathletes, we can go for longer than a real 'couched' person. I like to just go until my heart rate is too high, walk it down, then do it again. My hills are just so darn intense that I can't really do the whole C25k program yet because its just this side of rock climbing. . . ok, maybe I exaggerate, but only just;) I hate it when my techy gear won't work right, it just makes me so darn mad. I crack myself up.:p I'm such a goober, if my techy toy won't work, I stop.

TGIF! TGIF! Thought it'd never get here!

Jane - Those Halos look amazing! Wonder if I could get my arms around my head like that? Bonk! That's what I'd do! lol Great workout yesterday! I'm taking my running gear again today, but it's not looking too good. Thunderstorms expected again this evening. We shall see. I still have a rope on my wish list.

Alisha - Glad your dad is feeling better and you too! I'm also glad my dad was NOT a hardcore Marine! lol He did do 21 years, but never kept the mindset at home. Whew!

I probably could barely walk up the hills you have to run! I doubt you have exaggerated much! Keep at it! You'd fly over here! Yes, there are hills, but not like that unless you head a bit north!

I took my regular rest day yesterday. It was actually golf day, but with this weather, it was a bust!

Have a great Friday! I'm so looking forward to 5:00 p.m.! When Stephen finally goes to work, I'm taking a year off and spending time taking classes and figuring out what would be the best work for me for the remainder of my "career" life. I need to get out of an office environment and find something with less over the shoulder type direction. I need to not have to work FOR people as such. I know this doesn't make sense, but I'm thinking something outdoorsy or some type of coaching with more freedom. Maybe I'll become a park ranger! Oh, wait, I have a terrible sense of direction! I'd get lost . . .

I'm hoping that I get a chance to do a belly dancing workout.

Dad was feeling better and then last night he started to feel worse again. We don't think that his antibiotic is working. He is taking oregano oil and that seems to help somewhat. I think that he doesn't have an infection, but rather nerve damage from the root canal. I have nothing but sympathy for him, but I'm wondering if acupuncture wouldn't help relieve the pain for a while.

Tricia-My Dad's not too hardcore, he is just funny:p

My grand dad was a park ranger, he earned his forestry degree from UC Berkeley. of course, that was a long time ago.

Tricia, do you have a lynda.com subscription? Its not totally cheap, I think its 25$/month for unlimited access or 200$/year. They have a series of videos about how to find your passion. Its with the instructor 'Dave Crenshaw' the video is called 'Invaluable: Unlocking your abilities.' I'm putting myself through the worksheets. I know that I want to get my degree in law so that I can protect myself and my brother, but beyond going into IT, I'm at a loss for what else I could do.

If you decide that you want to . . . come out here to CA, we could be vintners:D

Jane- Were you able to get that run or did it rain you out?

Alisha

TGIF!!

I managed to get the run in. It rained south of us so we were able to get it in. We have another cloudy day but I think the rain chances are low but it will be rainy this weekend. I hope I can get my run in on Sunday.

Alisha ~ My dad would wake us up on school morning with "Rise and Shine You Lucky Soldiers". He wasn't a military guy but was in WWII.

I hope your dad feels better soon.

Tricia ~ I know what you are saying about work. I feel the same way.

Halos are awesome!!

Have a great Friday!

Morning ladies!

Up with the pups to let Stephen sleep in.

Alisha - Hope you got your bellydance workout in! That is so fun!

Yikes! I hope your dad's pain subsides. I've never had nerve damage so don't really know what they can do about that. Sending him healing energy! I think acupuncture could help. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try it! No pun intended!

Too funny that your dad does that for fun and not because of training!

I've never heard of lynda.com, but yeah, that is pricey, even if we were both working! I'll keep it in mind for when Stephen starts working. Maybe I can use it then. I'd love for him to get a job in that area! I would definitely start working at a vineyard! I wouldn't care what they made me do!

Vintner partners it is, if we move that way!

Jane - I bow to your awesomeness! Glad you were able to get a run in!

I managed to run last night too! We did not get the thunderstorms they had predicted for yesterday. Yay! My run was longer. I went almost the full 3 miles, who knows what I did really because my Garmin DIED less than 10 minutes into my run! I was so frustrated! My timer wasn't beeping at my changes except sometimes so I kept missing my changes and it still kept stopping and restarting at the beginning. I tried something different with it to see if it was just me being inept. Nope.

Anyway, I ran a longer interval last night, but not sure how long. I know it was well over 5 minutes. It was hard and I could barely breathe by the end, but couldn't check my HR. Sigh. Lesson learned. Regardless of how much battery power is left, always, ALWAYS, charge the Garmin before my run every time!

Well it's STS again today, week 2. Now that all the DOMS are gone, time to get new ones!

Have a great Saturday!

I'm all dressed up to do Low Impact Challenge. After that I'm going to town to take horse pictures at the Western States Horse Show at Cal Expo. I don't ride, but I sure do love to watch all of the events. I love the dressage and the barrel racing is a hoot. Tomorrow will be a joggle and a solar practice yoga session.

Tricia- Good job on the run. If my Garmin died on me, I think I'd be too annoyed to finish:eek: I think it would be great if Stephen got a job out here after he graduates, but he might die of heat exhaustion, it gets so darn hot, of course it is a dry heat, so . . maybe?? lols, ok, this is me being totally selfish because then I'd have a workout buddy:p

Jane- Good job on your run! I hope that it stays dry long enough to get your next one. I will have to try 'rise and shine you lucky soldiers' on my Dad. He may not know that one:D

Alisha

Alisha - that sounds like so much fun! I have ridden a horse once and loved it! They are so beautiful and graceful! Have fun taking pics! Hope you can post at least one later!

LOL! Be selfish! Put it out to the Universe because I would love to be up in that area! Not to mention having a workout partner of like mind who could push me!

I think Stephen could stand it as long as there was still a winter season!

Today is a yoga day. I'm sore from hiking all over Cal Expo yesterday. I enjoyed watching the dressage. I didn't get much in the way of pictures. It was super windy and dust was flying all over. Their manes were standing on edge, it looked weird in the pictures, like they got a hoof in an electric socket.

Tomorrow will be a jog/walk/yoga day.

Tricia- We don't have a winter season down here but they have one in Lake Tahoe, which isn't too far away at all. It does snow up in Camino / Apple Hill area.

Jane- How was your weekend?

Alisha
