Jogglers Jan 2012: Happy New Year!

Ok...I'm back now. I am going running tonight.

Tricia - you are right, it is getting lighter out. I think sunset is at 6:07pm but it stays lighter after sunset.

Alisha - Here are kettlebell recommendations.

If you are looking to do a workout that is more cardio based, meaning you are using the kettlebell as a cardio tool (lighter weight) that I would suggest Paul Katami workouts. I haven't done his workouts, but they are very popular. You can find them on Collage Video Exercise, Workout and Fitness videos & DVDs.

If you are looking for a more hardstyle workouts I would check out AOS (Art of Strength) and get Anthony's Clinic DVD. It is expensive but they have instruction that would be very helpful for the novice kettlebells. He is also a RKC.

The Kettlebell Clinic - Double Disk Kettlebells DVD - Art of Strength

Another place to start would be Lauren Brooks. Again, I don't have any of her videos but she is a RKC and I have heard good stuff about her. Here is the link to her video that has some instruction on it.

Ultimate Body Sculpt and Conditioning

Let me know if you have any questions.

I have to go. I have a 1-1 session with my boss in 15 minutes. I have no idea what this is going to be about. Yikes!!

Jane- Thanks for all the information!

Tricia-Don't forget that you can wear a headlamp if its dark.

I'm taking a rest day. That add on with Intensity on Tuesday really worked my butt! I might do some yoga tonight before bed. Tomorrow will be a Cathe workout, I don't know which one yet. I'm leaning towards MMA Boxing.

Alisha

Hi ladies!

Jane - Hope your meeting with your boss wasn't bad news! *fingers crossed*

Great recommendations! I still want the AOS Clinic DVDs. I have #2, but feel like I could use #1, too.

Hope you were able to enjoy your run!

Alisha - Glad your workout was a good one! I know I can wear a headlamp, but when it's cold, I really don't want to be out running in the dark! lol Cold is bad enough, but cold and dark are miserable!

The skirt I wore today felt a little looser. I think it's all the vegan food even though I've been splurging on weekends. That and the little bit of working out I've been doing and it has been a little bit! I'm not going to get on the scale still though.

I've been listening to this conference called Rawpalooza which is a raw foods conference for a week. They have interviews all afternoon with different big names in the raw food lifestyle circle. I've learned so much! It only makes me more excited to be on this path! I still have a long way to go, but I'm looking forward to moving to high raw!

Well, I'm just sitting here waiting for Stephen to get home. He left at 7 a.m. for classes, then went to a PFSA dinner for analysts afterwards and he's still not home yet. :( I hate these days when we don't get any time together!

Oh, well, guess I'll just go pour myself another glass of wine while I wait!

Tricia- I think that even though the idea of going all raw is admirable, that if you just pile your plate high with the veggies that you will get there by default. What I mean is, I don't think its a terrible thing to have had something that was cooked if you got enough of the raw veggies too. When waiting for Stephen to come home, do an ab routine. They are short and not too sweaty.;)

Jane-I am leaning more towards the cardio style workout, at least to start.

I'm taking a rest day. Its ttotm and my butt still hurts from Tuesday. I often don't feel it in the workout, but rather feel it for several days afterwards. I have to be careful to not do too much. I might do Yoga Relax. Tomorrow depends on how my tushie feels. If I'm ok, I will do my Belly Dance tape. In the meantime, I'm being really good on the eats front, I had a green salad with almonds, organic apple, and an egg. It was very tasty. I am indulging in some very dark Dove chocolate pieces. I did take my epo/fish oil and bilberry. Last night I did a healing meditation before bed, that always helps me feel better.

TGIF!

Here is tonight's workout:

200m Run
30 Walking Lunges (30 each leg)
30 Pullover Sit ups
200m Run
25 Swings
25 Jumping Jacks
200m Run
20 Back Squats
20 Front Squats
200m Run
10 1-arm sit ups (5/5)
10 Jump Squats
200m Run

I have been so happy to see my neighbor walking/jogging around the neighborhood at night. He is a BIG guy so I hope he will stick with the exercise. He has 5 kids at home so he needs to be healthy. He has always made positive comments when my sisters and I are running down the street.

Tricia ~ I think it's great that you are going raw. It sounds very time consuming though although it does take more effort to eat healthy. Good job on educating yourself and taking the plunge.

I'm glad your clothes are feeling better. Everyone keeps telling me that it looks like I have lost weight. I haven't been doing anything different. I'm thinking maybe the stress from the last couple of years is finally leaving me.
I am wearing a pair of black pants that were rather snug on me last year and I haven't worn them since. Today they feel good and are a tad loose! :)

The meeting with my boss was fine. He wants to start doing a 1-1 meeting every quarter just to check in. He does not work in our office so I think it's a good thing.

Alisha ~ I love Dove chocolates. I was a bad girl yesterday and ended up eating 3 pieces of a cookie cake at work. I couldn't help it though, I had the thing sitting in my office for about 3 hours and it smelled so good. There is still some left in the break room but I am staying away from it.

If you are leaning towards cardio then check out the Paul Katami workouts and start with a light weight (10 pounds).

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi ladies! Happy Friday!

Alisha - High raw means just that, lots of raw food with some cooked, but mostly raw. I could also do some pullups! My bar is right there, just a few steps away! Oooh, Dove chocolate . . . (drool) . . .

Hope you're feeling better soon! i know that DOMS tends to really stick around a long time in my legs and butt! Why is that? It's usually gone within a day or two in my upper body. Glad you eats have been good! It's our splurge night. We had been getting pizza, but tonight is Chinese.

Jane - Yay for your neighbor! Hope he keeps it up as well! I'm sure your're giving him encouragement and motivation every time you get out there! I"m glad the meet with your boss was just a routine thing. I think that's a very good idea especially since he isn't there to see how everyone's work goes on a regular basis!

Going raw isn't usually time consuming unless you are preparing what are considered gourmet dishes which are like the dehydrated veggie burgers and buns I made on Sunday. Most regular meals are juices, smoothies, salads, different combinations of veggies, sprouts, seeds and nuts that look amazing, but are just combinations of raw cut greens and veggies. It's amazing the variety you can get!

Stephen was home already when I got home so I abandoned my decision to do Turbo Barre tonight. I'll try to get it in this weekend. I have yet to do this one and have been hearing great things about it and how effective it is.

Okay, so I'm going to take off and relax and enjoy some down time with the hubs and the pets! Have a great night and a fabulous weekend!

Jane- I bet that you are slimmer because of all these super tough workouts!
Thanks for the KB advice. :) Is it ok to just get a KB at sports authority? Do I need a special style? Thats awesome about your neighbor! Running/jogging is the best way to get slimmer that I know of.

Tricia- Thats admirable, but I must admit, I couldn't do those pull ups:eek:
Did you get a workout today? Your raw salads sound really tasty. I've been having a lot more veggies lately, you are a good example!

I'm thinking about doing my belly dance tape this evening. It depends on my butt. Tomorrow should be a joggle and some yoga. Its so nice and sunny, I don't want to be inside.

Alisha

Hi Alisha!

I'm not Jane, but there's no need to invest a lot of money up front for a kettlebell unless you really want to get into it. Jane could give you some less expensive options though that would be good. I went all out and got a competition style kb. It was expensive, but I really like it!

I'm glad I'm able to inspire you! Now, if I could only keep myself inspired!

I did get a workout in today! Stephen and I went bike riding - yes, that's right, biking today! It was 42 out and sunny. A little chilly at first, but warmed up along the way. I just need to remember to take my face mask. My throat hurt with the cold air. I knew better, but thought it was going to be warmer!

Tomorrow, I'm planning on LIS UB Trisets or something like that. We shall see!

Hi Jane! Hope you're having a fabulous Saturday!

Here is Saturday's workout:
6 reps of each - 4 rounds
Bent over Row
Suitcase DL
Side Lateral Raises
Push Press
Bicep Curls
Hammers
OH Tricep Extensions
Then
4 x 30 seconds - Kettlebell Push Press - Max reps in 30 seconds, hold lockout overhead until failure - rest and repeat 3 more times.
Then
1 - 10x rope slams + 5 push ups for 2 minutes
2 - 5x ball slams + 5x Jumping Pull ups for 2 minutes
3 - H2H swings + 5 Upright Rows for 2 minutes

After this workout, I spent the day working in my mom's yard for over 4 hours. I am exhausted!

Alisha ~ Yes, you can get your KB from Sports Authority. I have kettlebells from 3 different places. You don't need anything special.

I'm glad it's nice and sunny out. It was nice here too. In the low 70's and sunny.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you got outside and rode your bike. It sounds like fun but a little chilly.

Jane - It was fun! You got more than a workout on Saturday! Whew! Can't wait to see what you do today after all that! Today will be either Turbo Barre or UB Trisets. Haven't decided.

Have a great day!

Hi Alisha!

I did 35 minutes of yoga this morning. I'm doing Step Fit this afternoon. My goal this week is to not get injured.:p I will do a jog/walk tomorrow. I'm fighting a low grade cold, its hardly there, but then it is there in my throat, and then it isn't. Its like playing a strange hide and seek game with my immune system.

Its still sunny outside. I think that maybe we are skipping winter entirely this time. We have had exactly two days of rain since last May. I am afraid that the D-word (drought) is definitely coming into play. I'm going to buy a generator and put in soaker hoses around the property. We have 6 acres of heritage oak trees, I don't want to see those go up in a fire.

Tricia- I haven't tried the Turbo Barre yet.

Jane- That looks like a super tough workout! I will be getting one of those KBs for sure, either today or tomorrow.

Alisha

Joggle!

I did enjoy my step workout last night. This afternoon I will be going for a 4 mile run/walk and then cool down with 35 minutes of Shiva Rae Yoga. Tomorrow is going to be SJP as produced, hide guts and all. I will also do yoga relax in the evening before bed.

I've been doing that 'eat before the workout' thing for a few weeks now, and I think I need to reduce the size of the snack, because its been coming up on me and I really want to workout before I start my work day. I was just a little too sore to workout first thing this morning. But, I'm hoping that tomorrow will be different.

Catch ya' later!

Alisha

Happy Monday!

Yesterday I ran 9 miles. It was a tad chilly but not too bad.

This is the workout I'm doing tonight:

Workout

30 seconds work / 30 seconds rest x 5 rounds non stop
Kettlebells

· Strict press
· Chest Press
· Weighted Sit ups
· Hand to Hand Swings
· double kettlebell bent row or 1 arm row
Conditioning Finisher: Alternate between the two movements as fast as possible.

· 5/10/15/20 kettlebell swings
· 80/60/40/20 revolutions on the jump rope or jumping jacks

Alisha ~ Enjoy your joggle today. You probably need to pick the right thing before you workout so it doesn't come up on you. I don't really have a big problem with that but I know other people that do. I hope you find what works for you.

Hi Tricia! Hope you're having a great Monday!

Hi ladies!

Alisha - Hope you had a nice joggle today! I also hope that this mild winter isn't a sign of a drought! I'd hate to see you lose your beautiful trees! I hope you don't get sick! Fend it off! Eating before workouts is a tricky thing. I won't eat less than an hour before. If I workout in the morning, I won't eat at all, mainly because I don't have time to sit and wait for it to digest before working out. I say either wait a bit longer before your workout after you eat or eat a little less or something a bit lighter.

Jane - As usual, great workouts!

I came home tonight intending to do Trisets Lower Body, but got caught up in the kitchen. Before I knew it, Stephen was home and it was time for puppy/kitty feeding, or 6:30, and I had missed my webinar I had signed up for! Oh, well. I'll get it in tomorrow.

I cooked my spaghetti squash, spiralized two yellow squash for raw pasta and made raw marinara sauce. I chopped bell pepper and onion to go in my 3-bean chili. Gotta soak the beans tonight and am going to cook it in the crock pot tomorrow all day.

I do great during the week staying purely vegan with some raw, but the weekends are pure junk! I have got to change that or, at the very least, work out more consistently and harder/longer to burn all those calories off. One or the other. I have to decide what I want to do here. It's hard.

Have a great night you two! See you tomorrow!

It looks like its just yoga this afternoon. I'm tired. I'm have some sort of low grade cold thingy. Tomorrow will be a combination of joggle and yoga.

Tricia- Thanks for the suggestions. I suggest that instead of trying to fix your entire weekend, that you adjust one meal at a time. I don't know when the difficulty starts, but I would start by keeping Friday's dinner clean, and then just build from there. I don't think that a little bit of a zag meal or treat is going to derail you. The 'all or nothing thinking' is what caused me so much trouble in the past, I hope you don't fall into that trap too.

Jane-I hope you enjoyed your run! I will definitely try altering my preworkout meal. Maybe I should just eat half of what I was eating, keep it to a very small snack.

Alisha

Hi Chicklets,

I am taking a rest day.

Alisha ~ I hope you feel better. Don't push your workouts if you are too tired. My sinuses have been crazy this week. It's cold for 2 seconds and then it gets warm again. We already have pollen floating around. We usually don't get that until March.

I can actually eat a pretty good sized meal about 30 minutes before I go for a run but I'm usually starving in the morning so maybe it just goes right through me. I know some people don't eat anything but I am starving in the morning.

Tricia ~ I agree with Alisha in taking baby steps over the weekend. I allow myself a cheat meal once a week and it is usually on Saturday. I don't skimp on the meal either. That usually keeps me satisfied for the week. Also I don't allow anything bad in the house so if I want something I have to go out and get it. I know it is harder for you though because you have Stephen there are well. You just need to work on a balance.

Have a great day!

Hi ladies!

Alisha - Better to just do some relaxing yoga than to push too hard. I will adjust a little bit at a time! Thanks!

Jane - It's about time you took a rest day! :p Pollen??? Already??? Wow! We're supposed to be close to 60 tomorrow!

No workout tonight. Just planks. Had a lovely 3-bean vegan chili for dinner. I cooked it in the crock pot all day. Made the house smell so delicious!

Have a great night!

Today is a combination of Yoga Today with Sarah Kline and a 4 mile joggle. I would have gone this morning, but the weather said rain, and then it didn't rain! So, I will do it this afternoon. Tomorrow will be a 1/4 of a banana and then Step Works.

Jane- I haven't seen any pollen, but it could be there and I might not see it anyway. Enjoy your rest day.

Tricia-That chili sounds really good! That reminds me to get my beans out of the freezer. The last time I made some I put half the batch in the freezer after soaking them. Its an experiment, I really don't know how that will turn out. I think I have a crock pot some where. . .

Alisha

Alisha - I've never frozen beans before. I hope it works well! I always tend to cook too much and throw some away because I can't eat them all! I bought the mix from The Sprout House. She had them earlier this year on sale. The mixes are all organically grown and it includes the beans, lentils or whatever is in the mix, plus all your spices and instructions. I haven't had a bad one yet! I ordered one each of about 4 or 5 of the different ones. Hope you managed to get a joggle in!

Nothing new or exciting to report here. Just the same old stuff.

Hi Jane!

Oh, hey! Do we have a February page yet?
