Joggler's December 2012

RapidBreath

Cathlete
Well. Its the last month of the year. I've had a rough go of it this past year, so I'm skipping ahead, I'm starting my new years resolutions now because the antibiotics have been rough on me and I've gained some weight. I'm going back to setting a rotation. I'm weighing my eats, watching my carbs, and counting my calories. Its nice and sunny outside. I plan to go for a walk this afternoon. I will be spending the day working on paper work. We expect it to rain again for the next couple of days, so I will be doing indoor workouts. I'm a little hesitant to jump into Cathe because I don't want doms so bad that I can't workout for a week. I'm taking a step back and doing Kathy Smith for a while to build up my strength again. I'm going to walk as much as I can, I miss the sunlight.

Alisha

Happy December!

Alisha ~ I'm sorry it's been a bad year for you but I'm HAPPY that you aren't waiting for the new year to get back into the game. Good for you! I agree with you to start slowly and get your strength up there. Keep moving forward.

I missed a couple of days so I will go back and see if I can remember everything.

Saturday was the 10K race in Tricia's old neighborhood of Albany. The weather was warm and there is always a good crowd as the race consists of a 5K and 1 mile. I felt good in the beginning but I could tell that I was not recovered from my 1/2 marathon yet. My legs were sore and I think I overdid it on Thursday. Around mile 2, a girl that I was running near asked if I wanted to run interval and I said yes because I felt so unfocused. So I ran intervals with her until mile 5, when I decided I wanted to go a little faster. I hoofed it to the finish line and shaved 44 seconds off my course record. I would have like to set a 10K PR but I guess I just have to settle for the course PR.

Since my friend was running in the 5K we stuck around and watched the race. It was fun to watch and cheer on everyone. The guy that won it finished in 17 minutes. He looked like he was going to puke and ended up doing just that after he crossed the finish line.

Spent the afternoon and part of the evening at mom's house.

Sunday I did not feel like running as my legs were still sore so I did another workout with push ups, pull ups, sit ups, shoulder to shoulder sandbag presses and presses.

Tonight will be the following workout with a med ball or kettlebell. I will do 3 sets of 25 and no putting down the weight at all - otherwise you have to do 4 sets.
Squats
Sit up w/twist
Walking Lunges
Thrusters
Elephants (aka swings - it looks like an elephant's trunk when you use a med ball)

Tricia ~ I find it hard to do any kind of workout if it's dark out when I get home, even if it's warm. I'm waiting until December 22 and then they days will start getting longer. I hate this time of year.

Evening ladies!

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! Whew! I feel better! Will explain at the end.

Alisha - I hate that you've had a tough year, but I know 2013 will be great for you! Good on you getting started early!

Jane - Fabulous work on your run! I don't really miss Albany, but I have to admit to some good times and good friends met there!

Well, I came home to start the December Cathe rotation. I was all dressed, had my weights and barbell out, step ready, etc. I turned the Mac Mini on to start Muscle Max, hit play . . . what did I see? Dark Shadows episode! REALLY???!!! I checked Muscle Endurance and got a different DS episode, went back to the beginning to Ab Circuits and Ab Hits, same problem! Everything was coming up Dark Shadows! At least all my workouts were, the movies were fine! Not sure what's going on, but I'll have to ask Stephen. I checked my folder on the Drobo and all my workouts are there. It may be the links are broken. That'll mean I have to spend the next week or so fixing the links to a few hundred workouts! Yikes! Well, guess I'm running in the dark until I get the problem fixed. SIGH. I was READY! I had my mind set properly. Figures, huh?

Got so frustrated and scared that I lost everything and I didn't want to think about it so I changed into lounging clothes and washed dishes.

I'm feeling better knowing my workouts are where they are supposed to be on the computer. The iTunes links are messed up is all. I hope! I may not get to this until after next week. This is Stephen's last week of school and finals next week and I don't want to whine or give him other stuff to worry about. This was all working fine a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I'll just go back to TapouT/RevAbs again. I keep jumping around! lol

Anyway. Today was a good eats day so far! I had oatmeal this morning with flax seed and PB. I'm trying to finish off a small bag I bought for the crust to my cheesecake! Hate to waste food! At lunch, I had raw parsnip rice with raw marinated portabella mushrooms. It was delicious! I put it in the dehydrator right when I left for work to warm and it was perfect! Not sure what I'll do tonight. Maybe cook my brussel sprouts with some roasted chestnuts and spicy honey and a few sweet potato fries.

Anyway, I'll keep you up on what happens.

Only 28 more days until we all have a better year! That is, unless the world ends on the 21st! lol

I'm so glad to hear from you two.

Jane- Way to go on your race!!

Tricia- I hate it when I lose links. I wonder if your links were in a bad sector on the hard drive. I can't imagine any other way for them to up and disappear. Of course, all it takes is moving a folder. I hate it when a workout day is a bust because of equipment failure. Fooey. I still have my old trusty Shape magazine workouts. Its not the same as a Cathe, Kathy Smith, or Jillian, but its not nothing and requires no power. That said, I won't do any workouts outside in the dark.

Which is why I didn't do my hike this afternoon. My Dad needed some books drop shipped and that took all afternoon. I had to drive an hour, buy them, drive another hour, ship them. And now I'm tired. Bleh.

I will do a Kathy Smith workout tomorrow morning, I have to go see if my workout clothes are clean.

Alisha

Alisha - Don't worry! We would never abandon you! Sorry you had all that driving to do and it messed up your workout!

I forgot how Stephen told me to reset my links. We have several computers on remote access and I lose track. I'm going to make him show me gain and write it down! I'm a hands on person and it was a few weeks ago when he told me, so I don't remember. Should be back on schedule next week!

I started pulling out the scale again. I wasn't going to, but I couldn't resist. Had my green smoothie this morning and will have more of my parsnip rice and marinated mushrooms for lunch today. Trying to stay as raw as possible!

I'll either do a RevBs or TapouT workout tonight. Eerie, meanie, minie, moe!

I am taking a rest tonight. I have to color my hair.

That workout looked like nothing but it was pretty brutal with a 15# med ball. I guess it feels different than a regular weight because of the distribution of the weight. It was a smoker for sure. I tried to hold the ball the whole workout without dropping it but I had to towards the end.

Tricia ~ Enjoy your workout tonight. I hope the scale was kind to you.

Alisha ~ We would never abandon you! Weekends are tough for me to post because I'm usually at mom's 1 day of the of the 2 and then trying to playing catch up on my stuff on the other day.

Sorry about the long driving trip. That can really mess up your day.

I did 35 minutes of Kathy Smith's Weight Loss Workout, its Hi/Lo and upper body weights/compound style movements. Its an oldie from 1990. Lols:p The outfits!! I will do some yoga this afternoon. I will do some workout tomorrow, it depends on the weather.

I made homemade hot chocolate and a slice of home made french toast. I plan to make a spicy turkey soup for lunch. I still have turkey breast in the fridge.

Jane- Your workouts always look intense to me.

Aww, thanks guys! I would never abandon you either.

Tricia- I always write down the steps to do things on the computers. I have the tower, the laptop, my iph, and a family ipad. Sheesh. Not to mention my Mom has a tower, my Dad has a laptop, my brother has a laptop, and two of them have iphones. And, I have a drive partitioned on my Tower to run Windows in Parallels!! Your mushrooms sound so good. How do you make them?

Alisha

I am going for a run tonight -- most likely 3 miles. The weather has been beautiful here.

Alisha ~ Your spicy turkey soup sounds good!

It's fun to laugh at the old fashions especially on workout videos.

Hi Tricia!

Alisha - Your computer system sounds like ours! Everything is linked to everything else, there are partitions, we have OSX and MS partitions, just in case we have to use Windows for anything! Sigh. I forget where everything is! Oh, and we have a Drobo for backup in addition to the Time Machine!

I love doing old workouts sometimes! The outfits always make me laugh! I get embarrassed that I used to wear them too!

Jane - I know no matter how nice and easy your workouts may look on paper, they aren't even close! Hope your hair came out pretty!

I know what you mean about taking forever to get ready to run! You should see me in the cold! Takes half an hour!

No workout tonight. I stopped at the grocery for a couple of things I needed and when I came home there was a small package from Mom. I had to call her to let her know it came. It was a pretty penguin pin with a frosted belly! It's so pretty. She always thinks of me! We chatted for a bit, then it was time to feed pets, so I took care of them, prepped my raw meal for lunch the rest of the week and made my dinner. I just finished eating!

Will pick up tomorrow!

Have a terrific night! Counting down to 12-22 so I can watch the sun start staying up at night!

I've got the new 'prescription' blues. This new 'Zarah' stuff is dreadful. Its making me nauseous. So then I eat crackers, which are not diet food.:(
At least they are just triscuits, but still, its not diet food.

Yesterday I bought some new leggings at Target (just 10 bucks), a new black tee shirt, and a pair of workout pants with a pink band and stars on them. It reminds me of my dance class back in 7th grade, we were called 'Dance Expressions' and we even went to Disney Land for 'Magic Music Days'. That was a lot of fun.

I did not do anything yet today. I decided to take a rest day. I will do Shiva's Yoga for beginners (35 min. mix) tonight before my meditation. Tomorrow will be another oldie workout before breakfast. I have Buns of steel for lower body in the tape deck (no kidding, a VHS). I already washed my clothes. :)

Tricia- My brother has time machine set up. I have separate drives for my business. I need a different drive for each job that I do for legal reasons. It makes it easier to find files in the event that a file is subpeonaed (spl?). That way I just send the drive without running the risk of sending someone else's files with it. I also have a set of bookcase drives for my own personal stuff.
Your Mom sounds like a sweet person.

Jane- Enjoy your run. Those old outfits are why I try to stick to solids. Trends show so badly in pictures.

Alisha

Apparently my prescription is on back order. Anyway. I am all dressed, I've had my hot lemony drink, and I will do my BOS workout in a couple of minutes.

Chat at ya' later.

Alisha

Happy Saint Nicholas Day!

Tonight will be a quick 30 minute workout with kettlebells. I don't have the exact workout with me but it will be total body,10 reps of an exercise continually for 30 minutes.

Afterwards we are heading to mom's house to celebrate Saint Nicholas Day. We've been celebrating St. Nicholas Day as long as I can remember. When we were little we would leave our shoes out and we would have a treat in them when we woke in the morning. I think one year we got filled stockings before we went off to school. When we got older da...er...I mean St. Nicholas would knock on our door, open it and throw a bag a candy in the room. LOL!! We have gotten back into celebrating it in recent years.

Alisha ~ I hope you feel better. Does Tamilee Webb do the Buns of Steel? I used to do her workouts in the 90's on FIT TV, back when they actually showed fitness workouts. There was one workout that she actually got overcome by the heat. She didn't quit but had to rest for moment. I loved her workouts.

Tricia ~ Yippee!! A present from mom. Those are the best. I can't wait for the longer days too! Last year I was counting down the days. Have a great workout tonight.

Hi ladies!

Alisha - You made out at Target! Your outfits sound cute! Ugh. I hate medicine that makes me feel bad! At least the crackers are helping, right?

Wow! Buns of Steel! I remember those workouts! ;) Sexy! lol

I would get totally lost with all those drives! It's bad enough as it is!

Jane - Cool that you celebrate St. Nick's Day! What a lovely tradition! We never did anything that unique, just the traditional stuff. All my family traditions have gone the way of the Do-Do since it's just me and Stephen. We pretty much wing it each year!

I screwed up today. I put my pesto and raw pasta in the dehydrator, then forgot to turn it on before I walked out the door! So, I ate my dinner at lunch with all intentions of having my lunch for dinner and wasn't feeling it, so I picked up fast food :eek:

No workout. Just hung out with the pups. Oh, well, tomorrow is another day. I was doing so well! I have to remember to make my chocolate chia pudding tonight and put in the fridge for breakfast tomorrow. I'll have my pesto and pasta for lunch. I WILL remember to turn on the dehydrator in the morning! This weekend I need to figure out what I want for lunches next week. It has to be easy and something I can prep on Sunday and just warm each day. I also need to start planning dinners better, too!

Okay. That's it for me. Tomorrow's Friday! Yay! It's been a slow week at work. Next Wednesday is our office/client Christmas party. I'll be wearing a tent.

Have a great night!

Sausage is not diet food. I put on two pounds, I think it was sodium; but, 2 pounds is 2 pounds, so I won't be doing that again (unless I'm magically 2 pounds under weight.) Its a good thing I keep a food journal, otherwise I might not know what was the culprit.

I had some inflammation on my left ear last night. It was red, hot, puffy. So, I put some triple antibiotic ointment on it, took a benadryl, and sent my dr. an email. This morning it looks great. I did go get some blood work this morning. I don't know what she ordered, they took two 2 inch vials of blood out of my arm. Bleh. I will wait until tomorrow to do yoga. I might go for a hike though. Its sunny, cold, and clear out there. I have to drop some mail off at my old room mate's apt. in town. I almost forgot I had it. Silly me.

I picked up my birth control prescription. My dr. put in one for yasmin, they had switched me to a generic, and its making me sick to my stomach, put on weight, and be really depressed. It costs about 40 dollars more, but better that than be really sick all the time.

Tricia- I'm wearing a lot of tents these days. If I'm not careful I will have to upgrade from a pup tent to a two person tent:p

Jane- What a great tradition!! I love it: St. Nicholas day!!! Tami did do BOS, not this particular tape though its Michelle Dozois. I miss fitness workouts on tv. Thats how I found Cathe, I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Alisha

TGIF!!

We had a fun time at mom's last night. My sister and BIL from Illinois sent us 2 big packages of stuff from Trader Joes. We are getting one in our area within the next couple of months. So she bought all her favorite stuff. It was fun! We are saving it all for the holidays!

Here is tonight's workout. I'm not sure about these Squat Halos. I changed them from 25 reps down to 15 because I think they will be hard.

2 Rounds
25 Step ups (25 each leg)
200m Run
25 Rope Slams
200m Run
25 Sit up and Twist
200m Run
15 Squat Halos (Squat and do a halo one way and then the other while in the squat)

Tricia ~ That is the only traditional thing we do. We don't have turkey at Thanksgiving and we don't do a thing for Christmas. We don't even exchange gifts we just give it charity. I'm not really big on tradition unless you have kids because I think it's important for kids to have that.

Alisha ~ I'm glad your ear is better today. I found Cathe on FitTV too.

Evening ladies!

Alisha - No, sausage would not qualify as diet food, but I'll bet it's the culprit of your weight gain! Glad your ear is better!

Jane - Glad you had fun! I have yet to go to Trader Joe's! I must drag my butt to Warwick and check it out!

Funny you two found Cathe on tv! I was just lucky when I eenie meenie minie moed!

Stephen has been at his department's Christmas party since 4 this afternoon. I think it's over, but it looks like he went to a friend's house. I texted him, but, as usual, he hasn't answered. He spends more time there and with these people than he does with me and he goes there instead of coming home? Yes, I'm sad. He had a meeting at Bryant University last night which is usually one of his nights home relatively early and Friday's he's usually home early. I'm starting to get paranoid that he'd rather be anywhere but home with me. :(

I wish I had friends. I'd call one up and go out and not come home until dawn or something! He'd better not drink too much! He has a long drive home! He usually doesn't when he knows he has to drive. I'm just upset right now. This always happens. At least with the Find iPhone app I know where he is! Used to be I had no clue and he wouldn't call or answer my texts.

Okay, I'm going to watch a Christmas movie, have more wine, then, if he still isn't home, I'm going to bed.

Have a good night! I'll let you know what happens tomorrow - if you really want to know! lol

I'm sure he's fine. Right? Sigh, why do I worry so much?

I am all dressed for my Kathy Smith workout. I even dug out my trusty HRM. I missed her!!:p All these months on rest were so lonely:p I have decided that from now on, no matter what (except broken bones.) I am exercising to whatever level my heart allows. HRM will always tell me what that is. I was very industrious yesterday. After my blood work I went to see a friend, I had her mail. Then, I went to the co-op. We have something called 'Anti-Depression Fridays' where its 10 percent off everything. It started when the state started 'Furlough Fridays' which is essentially a pay cut. The workers still have to produce the same amount of work otherwise they get fired. After that, I came home and put away all the food. I went for a short hike, it was sunny, beautiful, and I saw a puppy who is no longer a puppy, I could have sworn that his bark said, "Its been 7 years!! Where have you been?" Well, for a dog it has been nearly 7 years because in the summer I was hiking in a different trail because of the mountain lion.

I am sipping my lemony drink. Every time I think 'lemon' now I think 'Lemony Snicket'.

Tricia- Be ware of the TJs, all of it tastes good, and some of it is good for you, but any thing called a 'cookie' is still a cookie. I found that out the hard way. I love TJs, and I also hate TJs.

Jane-What are your TJs favorites?

Alisha

Alisha - Glad you had a nice day! Furlough Fridays is just wrong. Can't believe they make the people who can afford it least work for nothing one day a week! Take the government vehicles away and cut the pay and/or hours of the bosses! Heck, reduce the number of bosses! Sigh. Broken record, I know.

Glad you got meet up with an old friend and a puppy you used to see a lot!

Lemony Snicket - that's funny!

I don't buy processed stuff any more. I think I want to go more out of curiosity as to what everyone raves about.

Stephen got my workouts all fixed up yesterday! Woo-hoo! He ended up doing it the easy way (made me very nervous though). He just deleted them all out of iTunes and added them all back to library. Took a while, but at least we didn't have to babysit it and it worked! I'm all set for tomorrow!

Other than that, just had a nice quiet weekend so far.

Have a great Sunday!

Hi Jane!

Happy Sunday!

I hope you both are having a great weekend!

Yesterday I took a rest day. Mom, my sister and I went shopping. We bought a bunch of clothes, blankets, space heaters and food and donated to a local Christmas connection. We went to Target and Costco and then took everything and dropped it off at the donation site. When one of the ladies came out and saw what we had, she said great...it's all the good stuff. They always need new clothes and food. Then we came home and I spent the rest of the day with mom.

Today was a misty and foggy 10 mile run. It wasn't the best run but it's done. It was nice to see all the holiday lights on the way out as it was still dark. Still some of the decorations are a bit much. One house had at least 9 blow up things and lots of lights. It looked like a lit up gas station on a dark highway. LOL!!

Alisha ~ I will let you know about the TJ stuff. I've only been once when I went to visit my sister in Illinois which was a long time ago. I remember buying the chocolate covered soy nuts which I thought were delicious! The stuff she sent us was all naughty things...lots of chocolate stuff and crackers but I think she did include some brown rice too. We will consume most of it on Xmas Eve and Xmas and save the rest of it for New Years. Our area is also getting a Whole Foods which I'm really, really excited about!

Tricia ~ I'm glad you got all your workouts fixed. My sisters and I were talking about doing a wicked workout around the holidays. Since we are all working Xmas Eve, we are going to the wicked workout on the 26th. I believe we are all off that day. We are going to do the Spartan 1500 again. We did it this summer and it was brutal. I think it will be a bit easier as it won't be 90+ degrees.

Well have to get back to my chores although I will stop and read in a little while. I'm reading a book called "The Power of One". It's a great book. I can't wait to get back to it.

Happy Monday!

Here is my workout for tonight.
